Ninja Commando is a fun little game, and it's one of the few Neo Geo ones released recently that isn't on the SNK Arcade Classics discs. Probably not worth the 900 points though.

I'm pleasantly surprised w/ DK3. Very easy to get into/pick up & play, but lots going on underneath. Does that make sense? Not necessarily strategy, but you have to stay alert & on your toes. Even the platform formations on the floor affect gameplay. Is this one of Miyamoto's?

Also bought Balloon Fight yesterday. Not a bad little game either, sorta simpler Joust-type vibe.

Gotta get those nonviolent easier games for the wife & kids now. ;)

Balloon Fight, in my opinion, is brilliant. I know it's kind of a Joust clone, but the presentation is great. Me and my fiancee' still play it all the time. Great for 2 people. Probably my favorite of the "Black Box" games.

Today's vc game releases are the following:

Super Fantasy Zone-genesis 900 Wii points
Gley Lancer- Genesis 900 Wii points

The source is http://press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=15891 .

This week is the return of Genesis games being release on the vc.

The two games are shoot-em-ups.

Here is the link to gameplay footage of Fantasy Zone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuLquEnMDZ0 . Here is the link to gameplay footage to Gley Lancer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdiTQ-NB5Bs .

The official press release is different then Hudson's website. Hudson claimed Break In and Star Parodier are supposed to be release today. I don't know happened there. I can't complain over it though, since the two game are good games supposely and I like to play shoot-em-ups.

Is there a website that covers VC and WiiWare release for the Japanese Wii? Something that updates when new games are released and such?

Neil Koch

For VC games, I don't know of any dedicated sites, but Nintendo of Japan (unlike NoA or NoE) gives out a list of each month's upcoming releases that vcreviews.com will put on their site.

Not sure about WiiWare stuff though.

My guess hudson has finally, got through the redtape to release Ys Book 1&2 here.

I have it for my pce/t16 but a down load is welcome.Since i won't have to drag the system out every time i want to play it.

How the hell did Pong Toss "Frat Party Games" get an E via the ESRB ...

... while I'm sure it doesn't flat-out "condone" drinking, it's no secret that what you're playing is BEER-PONG, I've seen games get ratings above E for a SOLITARY reference to drinking or smoking.

I've noticed that the VC emulation tends to be better, and the games look nicer on the Wii. Plus I think the Classic Controller makes for a better experience vs the PS2 D-pad, especially for fighting games.

To be fair, SNK Arcade Classics Vol.1 comes out for the Wii tomorrow containing:

Sengoku
Magician Lord
Ninja Combat
World Heroes
Magician Lord
The King of Fighters '94
Art of Fighting
King of the Monsters
Last Resort
Metal Slug
Neo Turf Masters
Samurai Showdown
Burning Fight
Shock Troopers
Super Sidekicks 3
Top Hunter

For $29.99. Seeing as how a good number of the games on the compiliation are on the VC now for 900 points a pop ($9.00), it does seem as though Neo Geo releases are priced very strangely.

Emulation: They really look and control better on the VC? Interesting.

Control: You're forgetting that the PS2 has the Neo Geo arcade stick and Neo Geo control pad accessories. They're exact 1:1 replicas of the originals...re-designed to work with PS2's.

EDIT: Nevermind...the Wii is getting the same thing...

I think it was E rated because Nintendo force JV games to take the beer content of the game.

This game had problems with its rating from the get go. Pong Toss "Frat Party Games" was previously known as Beer Pong. Beer Pong got a "T" rating.

There was complain about about the game and the rating last month. It can be read on http://www.wiiware-world.com/news/2008/06/beer_pong_is_evil_and_wrong . Nintendo forced the publisher to change the name and to take out the alcohol content as a result.

The bigger question is how did Nintendo allowed JV games to publish and develop this game a first place.

Well, I mentioned the PS2 d-pad specifically. I don't have a stick for the PS2 :b

Emulation: They really look and control better on the VC? Interesting.

At least to me. It might be my particular setup, but the Neo Geo games on the VC do look sharper and the colors are brighter. I'm using component cables for both systems.

Some of the games on the PS2 suffer from outright slowdown (Shock Troopers in particular) and the control on some of the fighting games like Samurai Shodown seem off to me.

I'm assuming both of these issues will be fixed with the Wii version of SNK Classics, which makes the VC versions of the games kind of moot, given their high price and big file size.

Neil Koch
07-29-2008, 01:44 AM
Yeah, it's pretty odd that Chase HQ got a E10 for a "drug reference". I'm assuming it's because some of the billboards alongside the road are for cigarettes, but you can barely see them anyway.

Maybe this beer pong game is Nintendo trying to be "edgy" :b The 8 bucks would be better spent on a 12-pack of cheap beer and playing the game for real.

I will confirm the games on Monday. I am not sure if Samurai Shodown II and Y's book 1& 2 are the true releases for Monday. Nintendo has a history of changing announced vc game releases. Last Month is an example of that.

Last Month, Hudson claimed Break In and Star Parodier are going to be released on July 21st. North American Gamers got Gley Lancer and Super Fantasy Zone instead on July 21st.

Sonic the Hedgehog is one of my favorite Sms games.

I had my doubts about the vc announcements from Hudson, SNK Playmore, and Capcom for a reason.

Publishers have no say over when their games are released. Nintendo is suppose to let other 3rd party publishers know a couple days in advance. It appears like Nintendo is not letting 3rd party publishers know.

Splatterhouse 2 is great. But why in the hell would they release an inferior version of a game they've already released? I'm operating under the assumption that the SMS version is just the Game Gear version (since that's the version I've played), and it's pretty bad. Just don't tell me that next they'll release SMS Strider in lieu of the Genesis version.

I like the first Sonic for the SMS/GG. It just loosely follows the 16 bit game, having lots of new and different things compared to the Genesis game. Hardly a inferior port since its basically a completely different game in the Sonic series.

I'd be curious though if its the SMS version (Which its labeled as), or actually the Game Gear version.

Yes, Neo Turf Masters is a fun, fast-paced arcade golf game but not for $9 when the latest SNK collection can be had for less than twice that (saw the PS2 vers. for $15). IIRC most Neo-geo VC games are on that disc.

And what about other PC Engine imports like Gradius II or Rondo of Blood? That's probably Konami's fault, really. So why didn't we get either of those two well-known classics, and instead we get the bio-miracle game? Not that it's a bad game, it just doesn't make any sense?

Nabbed Y's Book I and II today. I had put like 12 games on the friggin' SD card to make it fit. Y's is a larger game than Star Soldier R, if you can believe it. (They must not have bothered to compress the red book audio. They should have.) Of course, just seeing the image of the goddess holding the crystal on the title screen got my juices flowing just as voraciously as this game did when I was in 7th grade. And Yuzo's soundtrack is still perfection. I don't think I've ever heard a better game soundtrack to this day. Pure bliss. For those of you who haven't played this, you ought to jump at the opportunity to try it on a decent TV with no load times or compatibility issues. My Duo no longer produces red book audio, so I'm pretty happy to have this.

There's a lot of stuff in there that sounds great, but what interests me the most is the possibility of the Mega Drive version of Sorcerian making it over here. It'll probably never happen because of the extensive amount of Japanese text requiring translation, but it would be nice. I used to be a real Falcom nerd back in the 90's, and I bought Sierra's PC port of Sorcerian for about $10 on clearance in 1993. Sadly, I couldn't advance past the second level due to what Sierra told me was an "incompatibility with your video card. The program was written to be compatible with a Japanese video card." I was pretty bummed, and I've always wanted to play it through. I've tried the MD version via an emulator, but the menus were so full of Japanese text that I couldn't figure it out.

I grabbed the sides of my monitor and screamed when I saw Super Mario RPG. Me and my brother finally got fed up with waiting for it forever and hooked up the SNES again just to play that game. What awesome timing.

I turned on my Wii, went to the Wii Shop Channel, saw the game there, and I shit my pants in amazement. I need to get Wii Points ASAP.
