Metal Marines? Is it any good?
It's a pretty good turn-based strategy game. There are various video clips of the game (like this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xj2ViwjKHeQ)) on YouTube.
Here's hoping the VC release of Metal Marines causes Ebay prices for the SNES cart to drop (the lower, the better :)).

Grabbing Gate of Thunder isn't just encouraged...I think it should be required.
First it stills sounds awesome even though the audio is compressed now to make it a smaller download for the VC. In addition, I don't know...could be my eyes playing tricks. But this also appears to be the first non-blurry TG-16 game I've seen on the VC?! There is also ZERO load times...just instant track changes that don't slow down the game at all and just instant!
Just get it already...besides if a lot of people download and support this TG-16 CD release, then more are sure to come?! Hopefully sooner than later! And I'm still hoping we might get an Rondo of Blood released some time. But something tells me Konami will get in the way of that happening.

I agree that Gate Thunder is required. I knew it is a great game for a long long time. The turbo cd game Japan only games is based on sales on Turbo-16 cd games. The turbo-16 cd game I expect getting the most downloads by the end of the year will be y's book 1&2.
There is more turbo cd games coming. There is talk that Hudson will be releasing a total 5 turbo -16 games this year and 10 to 15 turbo cd-16 games next year.
Hudson appears to be planning to release Turbo-16 Hu-card games and Turbo-16 cd games each month at this time. I got a rough idea what Turbo-16 Hu-card games will be released after October with those games being Released in North America orginally from 1989 to 1993.
I got a rough idea what some of the future turbo-16 cd games will be for tg-16 cd games that were released released in North America.

Hate how Sin & Punishment requires you to have a Classic controller to even play the game when it will work with a Gamecube controller. Now I'm going to have to go out and buy the controller to even play the game :(
Your post got me worried (I downloaded Sin and Punishment the other night but haven't played it yet). Well, I just tested it out. The classic controller screen lasts a couple of seconds and then the game begins. The Cube controller works fine for me (I don't own a classic Controller).
If you can't get past the classic controller screen, I suggest one of two things:
1) Erase and re-download the game.
2) Make sure your system has the latest updates (this shouldn't really matter, but you never know).
It would suck if you couldn't play this game, but I'm optimistic that one of the two methods I outlined above will be successful for you.
Good luck! Please be sure to let us know how it goes.
Grabbing Gate of Thunder isn't just encouraged...I think it should be required.
I've never played it, but I really want to. This is my next VC purchase for sure.

This weeks game are:
Lunar pool-500 wii points
Ninja JaJaMaru kun-600 wii points
Golden Axe 3-800 Wii points
The source is http://press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=13876
We got 2 Japan only games back when those 2 games at the time they were orginally release.
Golden Axe 3 was on the Sega Genesis Collection last year. Golden Axe 3 was not a great game or the best Golden Axe genesis based on me playing it the Sega Genesis Collection on the ps and the psp.
Ninja JaJaMaru kun was never released in the States for the nes. Ninja JaJaMaru kun was released in Europe last month, so I figured the game Will making to North America sometime in the future.
Here is the gameplay video for Ninja JaJaMaru kun: http://youtube.com/watch?v=tPU_STTu-kk . This Youtube video lasted a 1.07.
I hope this video will give you an idea about the game play and what the gameplay is about.
This week gives North america gamers hope in games going to the vc despite the Publisher nolonger exists as a company. Lunar Pool was by FCI a Company that nolonger exists.
The good news is this the same company that Published Zanac and the ultima games for game consoles in North America.

The rights to Zanac would still belong to Compile? Compile games were published by many different companies in the USA such as FCI: Zanac, Sega: Golvelius, TOHO: Space Megaforce, Seismic: MUSHA, etc…
OH,
I believe that Ninja JaJaMaru kun was slated to be released in the USA as 'Ninja Taro' looking at those screens that is what it appears to be?
Otherwise, it is good to continue to see more import game realized in the USA! :D

I was under the impression fci did the publishing for nes compile games.
Compile doesn't have the rights. I am saying that because compile nolonger exists since 2002, but several ex-employees founded Aiky according to Wikipedia. I don't trust that site though.
I figure Aiky has the rights to the game since Zanac is released on the virtaul game console in Japan or D4 enterprise does. Zanac was already rated for the wii according the ESRB website. I did a search on the virtual game console section of the wii shop channel and found out the compile game Lunar pool was published by d4 Enterprise for the vc.

Guradian Legend - Broderbund
I have the understanding that a couple of Compile fellows went on to form Milestone (Radirgy, Chaos Field, Karous) and that several more have start up a developer named 'Compile Heart'.

Lunar Pool is fucking brilliant. I would buy that one if I didn't have the cart.
Ninja JaJaMaru kun is kind of bad from what I remember. It's one of those games from the suuuuuuper early Famicom days, isn't it? Still, it's good to see them bringing more imports over. I'm still getting over the shock of how rad Sin and Punishment is.
I never played Genny Golden Axe III but I seem to remember that it's release in the US was delayed for a long time because it sucked. I remember seeing the pictures of the tiny, pathetic-looking sprites and comparing those screenshots to the hand-drawn, big sprites of the arcade version and wondering how the hell they could have let that happen.
Well, it's a screen that stays there and asks you to attach a Classic controller and requires it to be detected before the game will even start or press the A button. It says that pressing A will return you to the Wii Menu screen and that's what it does. It even does it when you press A on the Gamecube controller so I know the controllers are working fine. I tried the game several times and it always has this screen.
I think I figured out what your problem is. The situation you're describing is exactly what happens when you have the GameCube controller hooked up to the Player 2 port instead of Player 1. Remember that on the Wii, the P1 GC controller port is all the way on the right (the one closest to the front of the machine).

I never got back on that. I changed the ports days ago and that was what it was. I have three wireless controllers and all of them were plugged into ports except for the front one. What's weird is that I could of sworn I had no problem with other N64 games and single player Gamecube games and was using port 4 to control Paper Mario and GC. The way I saw with my system laying flat the ports go from left to right so port 4 seemed like it should be port 1.

There is no N64 game coming next month by Japan not having a n64 games. Usually Europe and North America gets the same game as Japan in the same month or the month after.
Here is the article of Next months Japan games: http://www.vc-reviews.com/news/186/japanese-virtual-console-list-november-2007.php .
Ys book 1 & 2 will not be released next month in Europe or North America.
North America's tg-16/ turbo cd games next month are Power Golf and Super Air Zonk: Rockabilly. Super Air Zonk: Rockabilly got delayed till next month. I got the list of turbo games from http://vc-pce.com/usa/e/index.html .
Europe's tg-16 games next month are Samurai Ghost and Power Golf. I got Europe list of Turbo games from http://vc-pce.com/eur/e/index.html .

I've finally finished my blog post on this week's games at Videogames of the Damned. My cable is down right now (need money), so I'm sharing computers and scrambling to find time whenever I can. This took most of the week, but I think I made up for it by a lot of writing and a ton of screenshots.
You'll have to let me know what you think of the screenshots in my VC reviews. I try to have a decent amount, without piling on too much.
As for the games? I really hated Lunar Pool. I really, really hated Jaja Maru Kun. I really liked Golden Axe 3. That's definitely a sleeper hit, one that grows on you over time. Also, it's an import, and it's necessary for us to support the import games - at least the good ones.
I'm really wondering what the deal is with the NES games released so far. Why are all the bad games popping out? Where the heck are all the good ones? Have there been any most-wanted polls at this site yet? I'm curious to see what you're waiting for.

I think nintendo is trying to all the stinkers out the way right now. There are still some early games for the nes hasn't been released like vollyball and Wrecking Crew. There are some average or below average games going the nes vc system still. Good games will be coming soon on the nes vc. On the vc-reviews website, River Ransom City, Bubble bobble, bases loaded, Dr. Mario, Super Mario 3, Ghosts' N Goblins, and Zanac is on the coming list.
I think it will be better for the nes on the vc next year.

I think they're also trying to get some "rare" or "possibly underrated" NES games out there as well. I mean, why the hell would they release Donkey Kong Jr. Math in the first year other than the fact that it's rare and high-novelty-seeking individuals such as ourselves might be curious enough to buy it?

There is some truth in the rare or underrated Nes games. I don't see a lot in the underrated nes games on the vc yet. There was more then one reason why Nintendo released Donkey Jr. Math besides being rare.
One of the reasons, I could think of for Donkey Kong Jr. Math in its first year was Nintendo wanted to give a game for back to school made for kids. There might might be wii owners that have young kids and are in grade school. Nintendo marketed the system for all ages. Nintendo marketed the system for all ages, so the kid facter is a possibility with Donkey Jr. Math. Teens or Adults aren't the only ones who would play vc games.
Another reason is Nintendo wanting to release more then one 'Edutainment' title' for the vc. I don't see Nintendo wanting to release Mario is missing and Donkey Kong Jr. Math in the same year or week. Most people wouldn't be pleased with Nintendo if Nintendo did that. Nintendo is doing for a "school theme" of games on the vc. Nintendo also has Mario Paint, a game that would interest kids or maybe teens. That game is made for the wii remote. Nintendo is only releasing the 'Edutainment' titles" during or the start of a school year. There are 3 'Edutainment' titles at least that could be released on the vc. That means 3 years of having 1 'Edutainment' title game.

Possibly I'm going crazy here but I was over at a buddy's house sometime around 2 months ago and saw Mario RPG in the VC list. I clearly remember telling him to get it and paper Mario on the N64 as he was a huge fan of Paper Mario 2 on the GC and owns Super Paper Mario on the Wii. I got my Wii about a month ago and it's not available.
Am I going nuts? possibly I imagined seeing it but when I called him he remembered it being on there as well...

Personally, I own it but like I've said before, it's been years since I've played it and it would be nice just to sit down and fire it up as opposed to getting out the SNES, controllers, wiring, etc and hooking it all up over and over again.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors is supposedly no longer rated by the ESRB (just a rumor, someone told me this when I tried to guess it on a contest thread on another site for Wii points). Though it would be great if it were released, I'm willing to bet it's legal crap involving Lucasarts and Konami preventing a VC release.
If the Compile games are being slowly released, though, it gives me hope for Guardian Legend.

It is true with Zombies ate my neighbors isn't being rated anymore, but Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest wasn't rated anymore either and it was released. There is a chancefor Zombies ate my neighbors be released. It could be a Lucasarts problem, if the game is not released in a couple more years. It appears like Loom will not be the vc as a turbo cd game. It means this a Lucas Arts issue. Kanomi doesn't have problems releasing theirgames to the vc, unlike Square Enix does with some of their franchises.

I wish I knew what Square Enix's problem is, other than their current obsession with FF7. We are being denied Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG, among other games, because they seem to enjoy the view from having their head up their ass.
I consider Lucasarts to be the same way with their classics being denied the freedom to have Wii releases to make way for their obsession with Star Wars games.
But on the bright side, Dragon Quest IX is on the DS.

It's ok, not my favorite of the Neo lot. I had it on the AES some time ago. Without the memory card, I thought it was overly hard. I've found that most AES titles are too difficult because so many were designed to be quarter munching arcade titles. When the came out for the AES they were given limited continues making them much more difficult. I remember having the same problem with games like Super Smash TV on the SNES...WAY too hard, little continues.

The vc games for Europe for this week are already announced this morning in Europe right now. 2 of of the vc games released there this week should be making it to North America. Alien Soldier is already released in Japan and now in Europe. This means it is a matter of time for this game to be released in North America for the first time.
Sonic 3d blast is the worst sonic platform game on the genesis. I don't know if that will be the last Sonic game on the genesis that will be making it to North America. Sonic & Knuckles is a maybe and I think there is an outside chance of a Japan only Sonic game making to North America.

This week was not that good. I kinda wish Zombies Ate My Neighbors was released. That was a good game. A bit repetitious, but good fun.
Simon's Quest is probably my favorite NES game. I even wrote a comprehensive strategy guide for my zine's first issue. That was a pain to put together. Should have got class credit for that little project. In fact, it's probably still the best guide you could read.
You can download a copy of V #1 from www.danielthomas.org, btw. Cough.
Samurai Ghost? Clunky and weird. It does have that creepy atmosphere, so that was nice, but the whole way the hero moves his arms with that sword...ugh. Really more of a showoff game for its time, with the big sprites. But it's really a poor game at heart, and I can't imagine anyone keeping their interest more than a minute or two. There are too many good Turbo games to settle for this.
Magician Lord? Wow, it still looks terriific. Certainly one of the standout Neo-Geo games as far as graphics go. Too bad it's impossibly hard. Damn, this isn't a game. It's a mugging. I've heard that the Neo-Geo games on VC only allow for limited continues. If that's the case, then this game is practically worthless. You'll never get anywhere. This isn't even hard in the challenging sense, as if you can win with the proper skill. No, you just get hit from all sides without a chance every two seconds. It's virtually impossible, and likely wasn't meant to be playable. It was just a scam to take your money. Don't we already have politicians who do that?

Well, count me out then. I'll just get a copy of it for my MVS system and cheat with my UniBios a bit. I had that for the AES and it was WAY too damn hard and I got sick of it.

There can't be any complaints with these 3 games being rated. I played Shining Force 2 and Bubble Bobble in the past. They are great games. These are the type of games gamers expect of out the vc, not the China Warriors of the gaming World that was released on the vc.
SF2, YES! That's been the #1 game I've been waiting for. Bubble Bobble is a fantastic game, too, of course. I'll probably sell my PS1 Bubble Bobble/Rainbow Island once it comes out.

I got a hint from reading a neogaf.com forum post. The poster is accurate for giving out hints what the systems the games are from. The hint is 1 nes game, 1tg-16 game, and 1 genesis game. That poster also has had a hint that the nes game is so good this week is one of the best ever for just one game.
I know the tg-16 game is power golf. I got no idea what the genesis game is but, it is not going to be a great title like Shining force 2. I am thinking the genesis game is something medicore or poor like Sonic 3d blast.
If this info is accurate as the poster has been in the past, it is going to be Super Mario Brothers 3 based on the nes coming soon games I can see.
Here is the coming soon list: http://www.vc-reviews.com/coming_soon.php
Just put USA only in the Filter by region part. I think you might be thinking it is the same game.
I wouldn't be shocked if Super Mario 3 is the game with Super Mario Galaxy is going to be released this month.

Super Mario Brothers 3 - 500 wii points
Alien soldier-900 wii points
Power Golf-600 wii points
The source is http://press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=13957.
The poster from neogaf.com forum was accurate about the nes game being a big deal.
Super Mario 3 is a classic and is considered by many as one the top 2 platformers for the nes all time and one the top 10 nes games of all time. This game was big deal for my generation on this game first came out. This a great game.
I was suprised Alien soldier was released this week. This a game I want to download. was suprised Alien soldier was released this week. This a game I want to download.
It a great week for the vc. I think this week is hard to match on the vc due to a legendary game for the nes and a great Run'N gun game for the Sega Genesis.

This gives me some hope for Pulseman, which was released forever and a day ago in Japan, and never released in Europe. But I'm not going to hold my breath.

I was suprised Alien soldier was released this week. This a game I want to download. I. This is a game that many people didn't have a chance to play back in the 90's due to the game being a Sega Channel only game to understanding. I hope this means more Sega channel only games make on the vc besides Alien Soldier and Golden Axe 3.
Alien Soldier, was never on the sega channel i had the thing in it's day.
You must be thinking of pulseman wich was on the sega channel.
Still it's some thing that nintendo let alien soldier be released here for the vc.

I wasn't thinking of pulsman. I Checked wikipedia first before posting it. I am not sure it is accurate. You said it was not one the Sega Channel and the poster below claim Alien Soldier is.
According Wikipedia, Alien Soldier was one the games for the Sega channel. Here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Channel.
I heard of the Sega Channel back when it got its start from reading gameinformer back in the day. I read about Megaman: Wily Wars being on the Sega Channel back in the day, but that was it. While I own a sega genesis model one back when the Sega channel was launched, I never got the channel despite having Time Warner Cable at the time.
I heard Alien Soldier on the Sega Channel by reading those claims on a couple forums. I double check the info before posting it.

All three games - Megaman: The Wily Wars, Alien Soldier (the Japanese version, complete with VISUALSHOCK! SPEEDSHOCK! SOUNDSHOCK! goodness), and Pulseman - were on the Sega Channel at one time, each getting their little place in the sun. Nintendo and Sega should bring more of the Sega Channel goodness in a more permanent form.

Can't say i remember,Alien Soldier being one the sega channel realy.
Unless it came out towards the end of it's life cycle.
Even then i had a friend who did keep 'it towards the end and i never saw it.
I'm not calling you a lair or any thing..still wiki is not all ways right some times.
For as jpn only titles go i do remember MM Willy Wars,Pulseman and Golden Axe 3 for it.

I thought I remembered it being on Sega Channel...
The VISUALSHOCK! SOUNDSHOCK! SPEEDSHOCK! was stuck in my head for quite some time.
Oh well, who knows?
I did find a few game site links that state Alien Soldier was on the Sega Channel... this is one:

Not trying to start an argument... I'd just like to think I didn't hallucinate a particularly fun yet masochistic part of my adolescent 16-bit experiences.

I think lots of people would, and I wish there was a way to let Nintendo and Sega know.
For one, it's already (mostly) in English, like Sin & Punishment. It's also a very fun game, and $9 to Nintendo is better than $40-100 (seems to be completely random) to some crazy importer.
I already own the Megadrive version, but I'd happily download it to my Wii just to show my support, and not have to play it on a small TV with a temperamental RF switch.

Picked up both SMB3 and Alien Soldier. I love the nostalgia hit of Mario (and one of the coolest Bowser fights ever in my opinion - not to mention a hard as nails final world). Alien Soldier is great. I've only given it a test run, but I love how brutal the game is. Definite must own.

The same person who gave the hint about Super Mario on the NeoGaf Forum has fond out from his rep that an SNES game, an NES game, and a NEOGEO game will be released on Monday. The hint is The SNES game is a widely-loved space shooter. That game is Axelay. That game is on the coming soon list on vc-reviews. The other snes shooter on that list is Super R-type, and Zombies ate my Neighbors. Zombies is not a game that will be released anytime soon.
I don't know know the other 2 games are.

I dunno, I'm having fun with Magician Lord. I prefer the non-1-on-1 fighting games, though (of which there are about 4 on the Neo). I'm personally hoping for the real Neo-Geo version of Bust-A-Move, Ninja Combat, or Last Resort, or 'Nam. Hell, I'd even take Baseball Stars Professional.

Volleyball-500 wii points
Axelay- 800 wii points
Blue's Journey- 900 wii points

Axelay is the best game out this bunch of games. It is a good shoot'em up.
Volleyball was released in Europe for the vc in August and Blue's Journey was released in Europe for the vc last week.

Blue's Journey is a decent platformer, but I don't think it's really worth the 900 points, especially since there's so many other options on the VC.

Don't know why but I'm considering grabbing Volleyball. The game is pointless--you just play a game and it's over. Nothing to work towards, no levels, no "series", nothing. All the early NES sports games were like this, actually; the video game equivalent of masturbation. But for some reason a few of them really rock (like Ice Hockey). Volleyball is in that category, for me, anyway.

I've never played the black label NES Volleyball ... but I'm betting it's not as good as Super Spike V-Ball. That game is still wickedly playable!
A Nintendo licensed classic by way of Technos. I'll pick that one up the day they release it.

Well, no it's not, technically. However, the gameplay feels rather solid in black label Volleyball, whereas I remember things looking kind of shakey and choppy in Super Spike V-Ball. I think back then preferred Kings of the Beach over everything (Konami's attempt). But Super Spike V-ball is an infinitely more intricate and elegant game, that's for sure.

It offen get's label as a,SMB clone but i think it's a good enough game on it's own.
Here's a video of it in action.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opPamDfJq3c
It also gives you a choice on what path to take you reach the end.
Some what of a replay value to it but i guess by not much.
Still not bad a for a eariler gen game on the neogeo.
I...pop it in my mvs once in a while since it's a good old fasion action platformer.

Skate or Die! has been OFLC rated. It means the game a good chance of being released on the vc in the future. The game was published by Ultra (konami).
It doesn't mean the game will be released on the vc next week or anytime soon. It was not esrb rated yet, but having the game rated in Europe is a good sign.
