Today's vc releases are the following:

Space Invaders: The Orginal game- Snes 800 Wii points
Forgotten Worlds- Genesis 800 Wii points

The source is http://press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=16882 .

The week is good for those who like shooters.

I own both games on cartridge and both of them are good games.

Forgotten Worlds shouldn't have the 6 button glitch on the vc. It is something that I couldn't say if you put the genesis cartridge in your genesis console and have a 6 button sega genesis controller plugged in.

Space Invaders is a great port of the 1978 arcade game with a competitive vs mode. I am not sure if it is worth 800 wii points if someone wants download the game though.

Apparently the GB Space Invaders, when played through a Super GameBoy ada[ter, is the same game without the vs. mode. Just a head's up for anybody who may already have that.

Today's vc releases are the following:

Forgotten Worlds- Genesis 800 Wii points.

I loved the Genesis version of Forgotten Worlds back when it was released (Nov/Dec 1989). I still own my original cartridge. BUT...if anyone is thinking of checking this out just remember there's the far superior arcade version on the Capcom Classics compilation for PS2, Xbox and PSP. A new copy costs a little more than this one game.

In fact, the arcade version (and as such, the port) contains more levels than the Genesis version. Not that the Genesis version is bad, mind you.

Forgotten Worlds is one of my favorite games so I DLed this even though I already have the Capcom Classics Collection. Even with the dual stick method the CCC uses works well, I still prefer the control on the Genesis version.

My only big complaint is the loss of two levels - but they're both pretty short (the Egyptian one in particular) so it's not a huge loss to me.

So has Nintendo offically abandoned the VC yet? It'll be any day now. The releases for the past few months have been of the "Yeah, we know no one will buy this" variety. It seems since Wiiware went live, Nintendo is slowly winding the VC down to a trickle of crap. It was cool while it lasted. At least the existing VC library is pretty thorough.

But just last month or so they released Secret of Mana and Gradius II, among others. There are weeks like this, but then they come and wow you every so often. Usually, for some reason, whenever they release a Neo Geo game it's often the only game released that week. I wonder why. Price maybe?

I don't think Nintendo has offically abandoned the Vc yet. I did see a couple new esrb rated games last week that might be released in the future in North America.

We should know by the end of January.

October didn't have the "Yeah, we know no one will buy this" variety on the vc. October had the following releases:
Shining Force 2
Secret of Mana
Mario Golf
Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition
Earthworm Jim
Digital Champ Battle Boxing
Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou

Except for Digital Champ Boxing, it seemed to a pretty good month of releases to vc owners.

November wasn't a great month for for a majority of vc owners for the most part.

You know...the VC was the only reason I was holding on to my Wii...after the recent list of junk and coupled to the fact that someone offered me $475 for all of my stuff, I sold the little fella.

If Nintendo ever releases some better VC titles that are truly hard to come by (COUGH...Earthbound...COUGH)...then I might pick up a Wii in a year or so...I doubt it though, Nintendo seems to be pushing their Wii-Ware crap at the moment...

For now...most of the better VC titles released I already own for real so it's goodbye to my mostly unused Wii...

Nintendo seems to be pushing their Wii-Ware crap at the moment...

Why the negative attitude toward WiiWare? There are already several excellent titles (World of Goo, Mega Man 9, Tetris Party, Bomberman Blast, LostWinds, Art Style: Orbient, the Strong Bad series, etc.) and more keep coming.

I'd rather pay $10 or $15 for an excellent WiiWare game than $40 or $50 for another mediocre Sonic, Tomb Raider, or Need for Speed game.

^ Got that right. Some of the best games I've played lately are WiiWare games. Sure there's some crap, just dont buy it!!! Orbient & Wild West Guns are 2 of the best games I have. I have World of Goo but havent played it much since I bought it. I think My Aquarium is good too. But I'm torn between Groovin' Blocks & Rotohex, though I've heard they're each worth the cost. I heard Boingz is supposed to be pretty good too.

I really dont know why people are crapping on Nintendo's VC & WiiWare services. As a retrogamer w/ very little time to invest in games anymore, it's a godsend.

I don't always agree with Rob and what I see as a Nintendo bias, but he's absolutely right. WiiWare has some pretty darn good games. Invaders Get Even, released just this week, is pretty awesome.

While I wouldn't put WiiWare on par with XBLA or PSN, there are some fine titles in their own right.

And saying that stuff like Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa, Gradius II, Alien Soldier, and Sin and Punishment aren't "hard to find titles" is crazy. Certainly much more tough to aquire than Earthbound. And in some cases more expensive too.

The VC list has been slowing down, but its still damn impressive. As long as we get a crazy import game or two and one or two great domestic games every month, I'll have nothing bad to say about this service (other than it being overpriced...)

I really like all of the Wiiware that I've purchased so far, and I'd buy (and probably enjoy) a lot more of it if I had a better storage solution on my Wii than - delete game to make space for new game.

I sincerely hope Nintendo remedies this in the near future.

There's good money to be made in storage media like flash drives or external hard drives.

What bothers me about this is what happens when the Wii has run it's course? Any games we've purchased but have deleted will, what, be gone forever? Keeping that in mind, it's almost a requirement to purchase an SD card.

Forget WiiWare, I don't get the negative attitude towards VC. Taken as a whole, it's a treasure trove of AAA games. Of course some weeks aren't that great and others are downright terrible. But keep in mind there are probably still three years of Mondays yet to go through. Even at one game per week, that's another 150 + games.

My hope is that Nintendo will roll the VC over into their next console, and have slowed the releases down so it can last...

QFT. I have said this about the Wii in general multiple times in varying ways the last two years.

Considering what time of year it is and all I think they don't want virtual sales interfering with holiday off-the-shelf sales. The best release months for VC have been slow retail release months (read: summer) as far as I have seen. It makes sense if you think about it. The DL price is set. The timer to the discount bin starts after a retail product hits street date.

By then, the online servers will be down and the Wii will no longer connect to the internet through Nintendo. Archive your stuff before this happens and keep a back-up. Also, at that time you can just use the Twilight Exploit and run emulation right off the SD slot with roms. Since N is no longer looking into your console or updating firmware, you're essentially brick-proof. Who knows? By that time there may even be custom firmware that can do all kinds of neat stuff. :)

Whoops, I misread the above post and thought it was the Genesis version of Sonic 2 that had been released today, not the SMS version (and on top of that, I forgot that the Genesis version is already on the VC - d'oh again). Anyways, It's interesting to see an SMS game that was only released in the US through a Game Gear port (with some differences (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2_%288-bit%29#Differences_between_versions) between the two).

Yes.

3.) no tails

I also agree. The wii interface has like 90 channel slots to use. I'd like to take the downloaded games stored on my sd card and make them as channels, so I don't have to juggle the files stored on the wii itself arround. It would make playing lots of different games easier to access.

Yoshi's Island used a Super FX chip and Castlevania III a MMC5, so I wouldn't count on seeing either one.

Nintendo's yet to release anything as far as I'm aware of that used anything even remotely beyond the basic hardware capabilities of each of the systems they've emulated, besides Hudson with the TG16 stuff. We've seen nothing I think like the DSP and Super FX chips of the SNES, advanced NES titles that used mappers most titles didn't, expansion pack N64 titles, etc.

Not that I'm advocating for emulation but I know for a fact that both of those run emulated just fine with emulators on a modded xbox. If I recall, the Xbox is less powerful than a Wii so both should be possible, I think. You guys probably know more about this than but it seems like it would be possible. As a staunch supporter of VC I was actually surprised we didnt really get a "Merry Xmas" from Nintendo. I was thinking/hoping maybe 3 releases for each supported system. That wouldve been great. Instead, it seemed this past Xmas week was like any other.

I'm thinking I'd like to see some Atari systems on there. 7800, 5200 maybe (keypad? Hmmm) I dont think many people played these systems & it'd be a nice little "rebirth" for them even if users d/l'ed them for sh-ts & giggles.

I'm already debating dumping my Yobo, SNES, & Genesis consoles & just go w/ what's offered on VC for each of these. Half the NES carts I own are already on VC & I love using the wireless Wiimote for them.

Ideally, I'd like to get some sort of PC that I can hook up to my TV/stereo (can't do it with my mac due to room/space constraints) and just emulate whatever the heck I want that way. I know nothing beats native hardware, but the amount of modding necessary to make native hardware keep up with the newer TV's is totally out of my price range and interest level.

I got Cue Sports Pool yesterday ...

for 500 points it's a nice, pretty full featured pool game with Wiimote motion control (mimicking using a pool cue) that has online play!

500 points is a great price IMO.

I'd say that it's totally worth it for the online play alone.

But at the same time I'm really looking forward to introducing my boys to the SYSTEMS, not just their games, so they'll know "hey thats a Genesis" or "thats a SNES". & I just got a couple SNES controllers (using the Genesis' on my 2600 right now). I dont like using any controller besides the Wiimote to play games on the Wii.

Plus what Graham just said, something about using the mouse w/ Mario Paint, playing Super Mario Kart, & the NES Zapper w/ Duck Hunt & Hogan's Alley is what's holding me back.

Yeah, emulating light gun games is terrible. They just were not designed to be played with a mouse. You can't get the cursor from one side of the screen to the other fast enough...it becomes unplayable. Not to mention that the detection on those emulators is terrible. You shoot the darn thing 10 times and it only registers once. Gumshoe is a game that's particularly close to my heart and it pains me to no end that I can no longer play that game on my DLP TV.

There you go, everybody. The wait is over. Too bad I hooked up my NES yesterday just to play it.

I thought CVIII couldn't be emulated or something. This seems like it would be a bigger deal to the average DP'er.

I think I remember that discussion. They were also talking about how SNES games that required the FX chips were also impossible but we all know that's false. I'm glad to see the game is now on a service where I can purchase it for once.

Am I the only one who seems to be having problems with connecting to the Wii Shop or anything like that? I keep getting error codes. Strangely enough, I had no problems before.

Both the US and Japanese CVIII's run fine in Nestopia for the Mac. I think that was just an issue with the Generation NEX because it doesn't suppert mapper 3 or something.

I've had Wii Shop error codes before, too. Wait a few hours and try again, or just wait until tomorrow.

I was having problem connecting too. It's rather normal. Every now and again the Wii Shop Channel goes down for a few hours.

I had the same problem too. I think it was down yesterday for a while. I couldn't get into the Wii Shop Channel or play online with Mario Kart Wii. However, the Weather Channel and News Channel were working fine. I tried today, and it's working perfectly.
