Wow! You learn something new every day!

I had no idea there was a version of Adventure Island on the TG-16. I only thought it was on the NES and SNES.

Streets Of Rage looks like my only download this week. Didn't Nintendo say Metroid (regular or Super) would be out by the end of Febuary?

yeah I heard about Super Metroid or Super Mario RPG was suppose to arrive.

Depends on what you're into. New Adventure Island plays much like the original, with minimal new frills, but it looks and sounds great. Super Adventure Island has more stuff going on, and the Yuzo Koshiro soundtrack. It's pretty subjective as to which is better.

Sonic Spinball
Sword of Vermillion

For anyone who has 480p on their Wii, I would encourage you to check this VC release out. The two Gamecube releases of OOT (WW preorder and Zelda Collection) were progressive scan compatible, and looked phenomenal. The N64 version by comparison looks like a muddy, blurred mess...especially with "2007 eyes".

If you didn't pick up the GC versions mentioned above or didn't have component cables for your 'cube, make sure to get this new VC version. You will be amazed.

Fair warning, Zelda OoT takes a BIG chunk of flash memory...I had 1110...it's now at 824...286 blocks in total..but at least Nintendo was nice enough to make it 1 block for the save file...so 287 in total.

Here's a curious question. Is there ANY difference between the version of Ocarina that you get when you own that Zelda Collectors Edition GameCube game disc, and the one you download from the VC?

MegaDrive20XX
02-27-2007, 10:58 AM
the Downloaded Zelda OoT you get on VC, is a direct port of the N64 game. So even when you save the game, it's just as fast as it original was, without seeing the GameCube "Saving" screen.

Cube version supports progressive scan, while the VC doesn't. However, the graphics have been touched up a bit to give a smoother look.

Virtual Console version, cannot use the "Stone of Agony" since the Classic controller does not support rumble. Which I thought was silly, because your Wiimote could be the rumble and since they will let you use the GameCube controller on this, couldn't they just use that controller as the rumble? Oh well, it's kind of minor.

Ironically, when you do use the GameCube controller on the VC port, it's the exact same configuration as the GameCube compliation disc.

Games like Super Mario World and Ocarina of Time aren't good enough for you?

Just what games are Japan getting that you want so much? It appears to me that we're getting mostly the same content a few weeks after Japan.

That isn't correct. Both are based on the exact same emulator, nothing is being ported here. The Wii emulator has just been slightly improved so you don't have things like that hiccup when you save.

And the Virtual Console release supports 480p just like the two bonus disc for the GameCube did.

And how could your Wiimote be your rumble when playing with the Classic Controller? It's stupid that they don't let wired GameGame controllers rumble though.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Virtual_Console_games_%28Japan%29Yeah, the "Japan gets all the good games" argument is a bit outdated -- we're pretty well caught up with them now. And I think Nintendo is doing a better job of keeping the content flowing than their competitors. MS only releases one Live Arcade game a week, and they've had trouble sticking to that schedule lately.

Nothing I especially want this week, but I'm sure a lot of folks out there will be stoked for Tecmo Bowl. (but it might be an impulse buy at some point for me) Splatterhouse for the TG-16 is due out this month, I'm excited for that.

03-12-2007, 12:30 PM
I'm also surprised over the demand of N64 games for the VC is higher than SNES. As for the Genesis side, I'm just kind of disappointed since most of these games are on compliation disc and I felt paying $8 for Space Harrier 2 or Sonic 1 is a bit steep. While the SNES games, for $8 I don't mind since some of them are worth about that range.

Super Metroid was rated "E" and showed up on the ESRB website back in Nov. '06 (Although the Feb release was pure speculation) - it has since been removed, but here's a link from a blog (http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2006/11/09/more-wii-virtual-console-games-for-2007-show-up-mario-rpg-kirby-super-metroid-starfox-64-etc.htm) when it was posted originally.

Even if EA didn't have exclusive rights, it would probably still have been this way. The NFLPA covers current players, so they would have had to negotiate contracts with every player in the game.

This seems to be the case with all TG16 VC games. They are consistent with keeping all games US for the US market.

Yeah, what threw me was that all of the online news sites/blogs were using pictures featuring Rick in the white mask -- but chalk that up to the craptacular state of Web-based game journalism, I guess.

I can confirm that you do have the red mask in this game, and the "gore" seems to be tamer than it was the Genesis sequels, IIRC.

Not a bad buy for the novelty value -- and as a vote of confidence for seeing the sequels on the VC -- but don't expect Streets of Rage with bloody meat cleavers.

what buisiness plan will get them more money? question answered.

Actually, that's not an open-and-shut question. Obviously, Nintendo THINKS that it will get them more money, but since there's no information (that I'm aware of) on the sales numbers for VC games, it's not safe to assume that it actually will. While, generally, companies will make the better choice, and some deference should be given to the wisdom of such choices, such choices are not infallible.

Yet on another note, are you kidding, that you are kidding, to lead up to that fact, that you are kidding? Japanese companies don't like to kid, unless they like to be kidding about a certain kidding of a game that deals with kidding. Are you kidding now still? Because that's perfectly fine that you are kidding, so it's okay with us.

I know it's actually a decent game.. I just think it's so funny that Sega tried to pull VF off on a console they knew couldn't run it as it was designed (in a VIRTUAL 3-D world).

This just made me wonder - I wonder if Nintendo will start releasing 32x games on the VC since they were just graphically upgraded Genesis games (not to mention, the 32x could pull off polygons)?
