I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt a few times, I mean how many weeks did Live Arcade go without a single release? But yeah, between the NES, SNES, Genesis and TG-16, you'd think they could drum up three titles per week rather easily. But then again, that's 156 games a year... that's really quite a lot, I wonder if they've planned that far ahead.

Why did Hudson Soft decided to released Bravoman and Shockman in the month? Both were considered bad games by gamers who played the 2 games.
Battle lode runner was never released in the United States for the tg-16 before and will be the first virtual console game to be ported from Japan to North America.

I haven't played Bravoman, but it was actually met with quite favorable reviews upons release. Apparently the digital voices are quite priceless, but I haven't experienced it myself.
As for Shockman, well I'll vouch that it really IS a good game. It's nothing too deep, and it borrows a lot from Mega Man/Rockman, but it is quite fun--especially with two people. There are some side-scrolling R-type-style shooter levels to add variety as well.

I never played the tg-16 version, but it appears like the graphics are better then sms and you can save the game unlike the sms version without using a password.
As far price with VC games go, I agree with most of nes games with the price. I feel some of the tg-16 games deserve the price like soldier blade and Bomberman 93. There are games on the system, that aren't cheap to get plus getting a Japan only game soon is worth the price unless you are into down loading roms illegally.

WFT on the extra points for TMNT!?! That is ridiculous. I bet it all because of the fact that there is new movie out featuring the TMNT name :bullshit: :shameful:
Dragon's Curse is good game. Difference between the versions(TG16 vs. SMS) is the graphics and sound. I think enemies and items have some different names. Gameplay is same though. TG-16 also allow you to save with file cabinet instead of writing out password.
NES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (original NES) is bullcrap for extra points. F that. This is where Nintendo drop the ball trying to cash in :shameful: :shameful:
I will have much fun playing TMNT NES romz on my PC or playing TMNT arcade on Xbox 360.

Ummm, I don't think it's Nintendo trying to cash in per say. Remember that TMNT carries licensed intellectual property, and the license for that particular game probably ended about 10 years ago, so Nintendo/Konami/whoever might have had to re-purchase the license in order to reissue the game, thus leading to the extra cost to the consumer. The very fact that the TMNT games are available on XBLA and the VC is evidence that Konami is, in fact, trying to cash in on the release of the movie, but I don't think they're trying to rip you off. It costs what it costs. It's unfortunate but that's how it goes.

TMNT retailed for the same price as SMB3, Castlevania 3, Rescue Rangers, Mega Man (insert number), etc. The fact that it is a license doesn't warrent a higher price. A game developer goes for a license for the fact the the name will generate more sales - familiarity.
R-Type for the Turbo Grafx is priced higher because it is technically "superior" compaired to other games. The Japan R-Type was on two HuCards. The USA R-Type retailed at $69.99 when other Turbo games were priced between $49.99 and $59.99. So the justification made sense that R-Type would cost more than the other Turbo games.
TMNT(NES) is not any more "superior" than Kid Icarus or Kirby's Adventure. It carries a higher price for no reason.
Technically, Street Fighter II is more superior to most of the offerings for SNES as it was the first 16 meg cartridge. However it is the same price as the rest of the SNES offerings.

Hmmm,
Why would I buy the cheapened NES version of Galaga for 5 bucks when I can pick up Namco Museum for Gamecube for probably 10 bucks used and get the real galaga arcade version along with Pac-Man, MS pac-man, pole-position etc.
5 bucks is a total rip for this game.

Okay, but it's unclear who approached whom to reissue the Ninja Turtles game. My speculation is that the movie studio could give a flying fuck about a game relevant to their new movie that was released almost 2 decades ago. Konami saw an opportunity to make more money off an old game (something Konami loves to if you haven't noticed) and decided to publish it for the VC, and therefore needs to pay royalties to somebody to use the Eastman and Laird characters.
It's just my speculation, and I'm no lawyer, but think about it: what are you paying for with that extra 100 points? What does TMNT have that the other VC NES games don't (including the "new and improved" Tecmo Bowl)? Things other than rom size probably do factor into the price of these VC games. Unless, of course, Nintendo decided to jack up the price of all NES VC games from here on out. Then I'd be wrong. How many points is Galaga?
Oh, and Bomberman '93 and New Adventure Island are probably bigger (data-wise) games than R-type, so there may be another reason that R-type is 800 points as well. Something behind the scenes probably plays in to those prices somehow.

04-09-2007, 03:56 PM
Look, licenses expire. The royalties and other stuff artists demand increase the price, bottom line.
This is why The Wonder Years will never see a DVD release. The cost of relicensing all of the music used in the show means that it would have to retail for some ridiculous price to cover it.

I can't get myself to buy the nes titles, just can't do it. I have over 100 titles, most of the popular and some of the rare if they are playable. I only buy TG16 titles and maybe a genesis one if the right game is available. The value of the price for the TG16 games is worth it for the high dollar ones. It urks me they sell NES games for 500 points when I can find them in the wild for 1-3 bucks a shot.
Yeah, it's been said I'm sure.
They should release Fire and Ice or Snow Bros., make it worth the 5 bucks!

Are you sure about that? I remember Battle Lode Runner being released over here. I'm pretty sure I was working at Babbage's when it happened, while the TG-16 was in its death throes. I've played it on emulators and it's all translated into English (where as the comparable Bomberman games are not).

Battle Lode Runner was slated for a USA release but it never happen. Maybe a proto or demo exist? but there is no retail release of a USA Battle Lode Runner. There is Japan version for long time before USA version was slated for release.

The arcade version had more levels, 2-player support, all three characters, and no censorship. The Sega CD version had all of this as well (it was only slightly censored, compared to the neutered SNES one).
The SNES is perhaps the worst version of FF to offer. I'd rather have Final Fight One, which is probably around the same price right now.
