Hey all! I've been lurking here for the past month so it's about time I introduce myself. :) My name is Aaron Schnuth and I've been collecting classic games on and off for the past 13 years or so. I used to hang out on rec.games.video.classic when newsgroups were still the place to go.

I found myself breaking out my game collection recently, and a trip to the old newsgroup showed that mostly everyone had moved on. So I decided to look and see what was happening over here since I still have a couple old DP guides. It's really great to see the community still thriving even if it's no longer centered on the newsgroup.

I used to collect for everything I could get my hands on, but quickly found I couldn't afford to do such things nor did I have the room before I bought a house. These days I mainly focus on collecting NES, SNES, Genesis, Dreamcast, PS1, and Gameboy stuff.

But I have many other systems that includes my large Atari 2600 (VCS) collection that has been stuck at around 350 games for forever. I can't remember the last time I found a Atari game in the wild. I also have a couple Vectrex systems one of which I found as I was moving into my house a few years ago. The thrifts have dried up so bad around here in recent years it's just sad.

I'm 32 years old and live in Toledo, OH. So that's who I am. :) Nice to meet you.

My name is Steve and I started with gaming on the Atari 2600. I have since got rid of that system, but kept the 2600 adapter and a few games for the Colecovision and have the emulator. My system collection includes 5 Dreamcasts (gotta have backups!), 3 Xboxs, Colecovision, Atari 5200, Sega Genesis, Gamecube, 3DO, Commodore 64, PS1, and a PS2. I guess I skipped the Nintendo and Super Nintendo years that most of this board is into, but I have the emulators. I plan on getting all the new gen systems eventually. I mostly collect games to play, except the Dreamcast where I want every game! I am into MAME and have a cabinet with an X-Arcade controller. I love pinball and own an original Bally Kiss. I want to get a South Park machine some day.

Some All-time Faves:
PC: Half Life, Unreal Tournament
Atari2600: Air Sea Battle, Combat, Pitfall, Yar's Revenge, Space Invaders
Colecovision: Lady Bug, DK series, Turbo, mostly arcade games
Atari5200: Missile Command, Galaxian, mostly arcade games
XBox: Halo 2, Burnout series, X-Men Legends, Half Life 2, Driv3r, Black
DC: Hydro Thunder, Ready 2 Rumble, Shenmue, Sega Fishing games, Death Crimson OX, House of the Dead, Marvel Vs. Capcom series
PS1: Silent Hill, Tomb Raider series, Beyond The Beyond, Nascar Rumble, Parasite Eve series, Resident Evil series, Vagrant Story
PS2: Clock Tower 3, God of War, Guitar Hero series :guitar:
C64: Dino Eggs, Gateway to Aphsai, Toy Bizarre
GC: Resident Evil 4, Geist, Mario Kart, Eternal Darkness
MAME: Asteroids, Donkey Kong, City Connection, Crazy Climber, Frogger, Shuffleshot, World Class Bowling, Moon Cresta, Commando, Robotron, Tempest, Scramble, lots more!

Hello to all! I've been a member here for almost three years (and a lurker for even longer) so I figured it was high time I introduced myself. So for the milestone of my 200th post, here goes: My name is Boyd, and I was born and raised in the great state of Tennessee. I found the forums by happy accident, back when I was still in college pursuing my IT degree. I'm a Nintendo nut from way back, starting when my dear old Dad bought me a Nintendo Action Set for my 11th birthday. I'll be 30 this July (No!) and I've still got it. I love any games that are good, but mostly platformers, fighting games, and first person shooters. The 2-D Mario and Castlevania games are probably my all-time faves. I collect for most all systems from classic retro up til current day. In real life I do IT work for a hospital and I love it! Glad to be among fellow gamers and I appreciate all the good folks who keep this site going for game nuts like myself. Game on!

Hey there, my name is Chris, I currently live in northern NJ (15 minutes from the DP store!). The voice of God told me to come here. I collect exclusively Atari 2600 games and label variations. I just recently got a Jag and am kind of excited about it... I may have to start collecting for it, I just got my first game from the DP store, NBA Jam, T.E. for only 6.99! I've been collecting since about 1993 and I'm looking forward to being part of the collecting community again, I was out of it for a while after I sold my entire collection about 5 years ago. Congrats on a great site, and a great store!

HEYA EVERYONE!

I've known about his website for almost a year. I've been using it as a resource to compile videogame lists so I can work towards completing entire libraries and to see how rare certain items are.

I started gaming when I was 5. My first system was the Colecovision. I am a collector as well as a gamer. I currently own over 1,200+ games, 20+ systems, not including duplicates and expendables. Everything is complete and in great to mint condition.

Hi. I'm Mouse. Been lurking here for a bit. Decided to get an account because I have a "prototype" I want help with.

I love video games, especially 2D platformers like Mario 3 and Castlevania and such, games involving robots, and games that are open and allow for a lot of exploring and experimenting. I love big, wide worlds in games.

Also I am fascinated by early versions, demos, unfinished games, and that sort of thing as well as oddities, pirated versions, hacks, and games not released in my country. The weird stuff.

Right now I am in the middle of a torrid affair with my PSP since I can run so many cool things on it.

Heyyy all,

Long time lurker, first time poster and all that. This is a great place to kill an afternoon... or afternoons. Wonderful amount of information, and nice people.

I'm not yet all-in as a collector... just dug out the old NES and planning on ordering a new 72-pinner. After that, planning on rooting thru some local used book stores for games (Phoenix, AZ area).

All the neat stuff here really makes me regret how nonchalant I was with loaning out games, and not worrying about getting'em back... that's for sure.

Anyhoo... thanks for havin' me... I look forward to taking part!

Hey guys.

I've been a spuedo-lurker for around a year now, and finally decided to create an account.

My names Matt. I'm a 23-year-old journalist, who is broke as a joke. I love collecting anything out of the 8-bit and 16-bit era. I like the boards sensibility, so hopefully I'll blend in nice and quietly :rocker:

i work at burger king :S yay but i write alot of books in my spare time.

I found the forums while looking for N64 stuff. and i gotta admit this place is great.
ive managed to own pretty much every console in the last 10 years except ps3 but i got an N64 and im hooked. i dont really own that many 40 at present and i cant really afford to get them all complete although i have a few. ive decided to sell my wii as it has collected dust thanks to my N64 and the fact that the games are kinda awful at present.

im planning on collecting Nes next but i want to complete my n64 cart collection first.

Hello, I'm Ben

The consoles I have are: Atari 2600, NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Game Boy / Color / Advance, Genesis, 32X, Dreamcast, Playstation, and Xbox. I'm seriously collecting Dreamcast games right now, and I'm looking to buy anything I currently don't have.

A bunch of people over at RF Generation (http://rfgeneration.com) have mentioned stuff from these forums, so I'm checking it out now. Equally, I highly recommend going there too. It allows you to track your collection online and display it for others to see without exchanging spreadsheet files. If you're curious about an example of this, check out my profile (http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/collection.pl?action=profile&name=OatBob&folder=Collection), and collection list (http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/collection.pl?name=OatBob&folder=Collection).

I look forward to meeting you in the coming months.

Hey guys, my name is Christina and I'm really just starting to seriously collect. I'm 22 years old and a student (at least for a week and a half longer... it's graduation time baby!) in Augusta, GA.

I've been playing games for 17 years although I actually started gaming on our Atari ST (which I miss terribly) and I've just continued from there. I mainly collect NES games and even on my modest budget I've managed to get over 200 games so far. It's not as good as some of you guys' stuff but I'm sort of proud of my little collection.

I look forward to hanging out here and learning from you guys :)

05-05-2007, 02:02 PM
Hey, Cory here, though I mainly go by Dingo on every forum I vist. Found out about these forums by reading through a few posts at the Hardcore Gaming 101 forums. I'm 18 years old, going to college (semester just ended) for journalism, and I plan on writing about games one day. I play everything from NES up to the current generation of systems; the first game I ever beat was Contra on the NES and that also firmly grounded me into the life of a gamer. I don't have a huge collection mainly because I can't afford it, but I enjoy fighting games (I stick with 2-D fighters), shoot'em ups/run and guns, action adventure games like Metroid and Castlevania, and the occasional RPG; throw in a few obscure games that I can't think of off the top of my head and you have me.

Anyway, thus is my introductory post and I look forward to posting here and getting to know everyone :D .

Hi, my name is Dan...been reading here for a few months now, got turned onto the site by a St. Louis area store owner (Jason of Trade-N-Games, nice guy check out his site at www.tradengames.com)

Anyway, I have just started seriously collecting like 8 months ago. Started out just looking to buy all the old RPG classics I loved as a kid (I'm 26 now), and its morphed into a collection of many random systems (2600, NES, SNES, Genesis, Master System, Sega CD, PS1, PS2...). Aside from collecting all the great RPG's, my current goal is a complete NES collection. Still debating whether I want to make every game complete or not. Current count is around 125 games, all of which have manuals 30 or so are complete as well.

Still figuring out where I can get the best finds out around here, nothing much lately but today I got 4 Jaguar carts for $1 at a garage sale AND A ps2 system for $15 at goodwill, both of which I thought were pretty good deals.

Thanks
-Dan

Hi my name is Orlando I'm 22 and I live in a small town in California. I guess you could say I've been collecting games since I had my first nintendo in the late 80s, but I didn't collect games so much as didn't get rid of them. The super nes is my favorite system of all time and Super Mario Bros. 3 is the best game ever. I found this site while looking at a bunch of snes and nes sites and I have to say it's nice to be around like minded individuals

Daniel Bienvenu : I'm a gamer, collector and homebrew programmer ColecoVision.

I'm a programmer and I always wanted to program my own video games. My mind is stuck in the past, I prefer programming games for the ColecoVision console than anything else.

I'm a french canadian and I live in the province of Québec. English is not my cup of tea, but I'm still learning every day by chating with some of you.

I'm a member of a video game collectors group named C.C.J.V.Q. and we had meetings 3 or 4 times a year. I'm a member of Adamcon, a group formed by Coleco Adam and ColecoVision users. I also meet in person some guys from Digital Press during a gaming expo.

I wasn't very active in many forums, during the last 2 years. In fact, I wasn't very active in the Internet. I was looking for job and stuff like that we call generaly "life". Now, I'm back online, but my counter drop to zero here... well, I'm still in the archives.

My favorite games? difficult to answer. I'm not an arcade gamer. But I like the ColecoVision game system, the Commodore computers, and a few other systems. On these machines, I have some favorite games, but because they are "cool". Donkey Kong was the first video game I played in my life and give me this dream to program a video game myself, and this dream comes true for the computers first, then for the ColecoVision in year 2000. For the Vic-20, I was impress by Romix's Galaxia. For the Commodore 64, I enjoyed California Games, and also funky noisy music in games like Commando. At the arcade, my favorite game was Joust because of its originality.

My main collection is ColecoVision stuff. I still have a working Commodore 64 with 3 disk drives and many floppy discs.

My job is programming stuff, but my academic formation is over programming phase, like design and planning projects.

Because of my collector friends, I tried many other systems like Intellivision, Atari2600, NES, SNES, N64, SMS, Genesis, Saturn, DreamCast, and a few other consoles and computers like Game.com and Game'n Watch. But I'm not really collecting for these systems. Anyway, I have no more free space to continue collecting and to buy any "new generation" console.

The best stuff is in the vintage, classic gaming is fun. The homebrew scene is very active for not enough systems, more work have to be done here.

I just started collecting not too long ago, games have been a part of my life, all the way down to the Atari/Commodore 64 days.

- Who you are
Daniel Hale

- Where you live
Oklahoma

- How you found the forums
I was referred by a member of [H]ardForum.

- What your favorite games are
Sadly I don't really own any of my favorite console games anymore. I love Final Fantasy II and III (SNES), Chrono Trigger, and other RPGs.

- What systems you collect for
I don't really collect per se, but I'm looking to acquire new stuff for my Sega Saturn which has been lightly used over the last decade. It's time to change that now I've gotten bored with the last two generation of consoles.

- What you do in "real life"
Well, I'm currently taking time away from school to make sure my wife and I have food and a roof over our heads and our pets' heads too. I work full-time in food service for a private university in town and make a decent amount of money each month. I'm also a journalist for the Army National Guard, which is quite fun and exciting but also has some downs.

- Any other interesting facts, like how you began collecting, etc.
Like I said before, I'm not really collecting yet. I have been playing video games since I was about 2-3 years old. I've owned a NES, SNES, N64, Sega Saturn, Playstation, Playstation 2 and Xbox 360. I've also been an avid computer gamer for many years, which is why I've always put console gaming to the rear over computer.

My name is Patrick. I am 20 (1986) years old and hail from Long Island, NY. where the concrete meets the sand. I moved to Tennessee for college and currently attend Middle Tennessee State University as a sophomore in English Literature. I do my game shopping in and around middle Tennessee as well as doing SOME sort of game looking on every vacation I take.
I was working at a Taco Bell when I got into a Castlevania discussion with another guy up at work. We got into it and he mentioned that he collected NES games. I'd never seen a mass collector like that ever, he had about 600+ NES carts and about 900+ games in total. Here were all of these games that I was told by my parents were too expensive (I friggin wanted games so bad as a kid) and this kid had hundreds while I was stuck with 3 or 4 NES carts as a kid.
He turned me onto digitpress and it's been a real blessing with my collecting. I'm a playstation one guy through and through and I've really found DP's classic boards helpful for my snes work-in-process.

I grew up NES to Sega to N64 to psx to PS2. And I collect snes games currently. I play snes 80% of the time while gaming, ps2 gets 15% and my DS gets the leftovers.
I really enjoy turn-based strategy, rpgs, puzzle games, and beat-em-ups. Turtles In Time and Kirby's Avalanche are the two games on my shelf that are never dusty. I love collecting and I love games, period. See you dp'ers on the flip side.

Don't hesitate to PM me,
I have a good working knowledge of the snes collection and some decent cart only's for trade. Plus, im always in the market for good conversation.

Keep your eyes and ears open, don't just accept what others tell you as truth and keep coming back to the controller, man.

Who: My name is Rick

Where: Michigan, USA

How Found: Surfing the web for classic/retro gaming sites

Fave Games: All Time is Tecmo Bowl for NES because I'm a bit of a sports fanatic and it was the first good attempt at a football videogame. I'm also a big fan of Pick Axe Pete, Turtles, and Killer Bee's (Odyssey 2).

Systems Collected: Odyssey 2, Colecovision, Original NES, Atari 2600. O2 is the only collection I am serious about, the rest I just collect the games I like.

Real Life: Dad, Husband, and Planning Director for a local Municipality.

Other: I just recently got back into the classics. While looking through some boxes at my parents I discovered all of my old Odyssey 2 games and the system. Plugged it in and it worked, sortof. Joysticks were shot from years of abuse and I have the hardwired kind where you are out of luck if they go bad. So i went on an internet auction site and bought a working O2 and the rest is history. I have added to my collection and have started becoming more active in the classic gaming world, strictly as a hobby.

Not really here to introduce myself, was more interested to see if this guy "Airraid" had properly introduced himself to the group. You see, he's quite the bane to usenet: Crossposting, starting flame wars, changing his user handle time and again to get around people's killfile filters. What I found odd about him hanging out here is the fact that he calls some of the forum goers "owned" and "faggots".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOAi3-jYw_M

Apparently he managed to find something so amazingly rare and mind blowing that he not only had to record a really bad video of it, but also post it to YouTube and then go on to almost a 2,000 word rant to make sure that "some of the faggots on neo-geo.com forum and digitalpress forum ARE OWNED because of their sheer stupidity and faggotry.".

Yes, that's right, if you were foolish enough to think the Genesis version of Ghouls'n'Ghosts was just great, it was just your "sheer stupidity" that allowed that thought to squeeze through....for, you see, Arthur's feet do not, *DO NOT*, D O N O T go behind the grass! The next time anyone utters something about the Genesis version being "pretty good" they need to beware the wrath of YouTube's saddest user: Airraid: The guy who posts videos showing Arthur's Feet going BEHIND the grass<insert big booming orchestra here>.

Now, I've not been around the Digital Press forums a whole lot, most of my postings were with a little mag called "Manci Games", but I found that the people here were generally pretty hip, and more than willing to talk about retro gaming to no end(and that's a good thing)....certainly no "faggotry" going on....

- Who you are: I am Sparkster. The name is too long for most old school RPGs, so I will either go by Killer or Abba... Killer came from my super-cheating in some RPGs, thus being a killer. Abba came from being too damn lazy to move my cursor more than one space to register my name.

- Where you live: Siberia, Canada (aka Calgary)

- How you found the forums: A friend directed me here to see the rarity guide

- What your favorite games are: All old school. I especially like the Marios, Mega Mans, and Dragon Warriors.

- What systems you collect for: NES, SNES, Genesis, some Atari

- What you do in "real life": I make sure airplanes go out safely, on time, and with people's luggage... I also bring them in.

- Any other interesting facts, like how you began collecting, etc.: I began collecting by accident. Somebody was selling games for cheap. I wanted more games, so got them. He also included games for a system that I did not have. Later, I ended up going to some garage sales, and saw some deals that I couldn't refuse. Then I saw more and more deals I couldn't refuse.

Who you are: Dylan, Age 20

Where you live: Des Moines, Iowa

How you found the forums: Been lurking for quite awhile, just finally decided to register.

What your favorite games are: Resident Evil (Series), Virtua Fighter (Series), P.N. 03, Devil May Cry (Series), Metroid (Series), Capcom vs SNK 2, Phantasy Star (Series), Parasite Eve (Series), Shenmue (Series), Mega Man/Mega Man X (Series)

What systems you collect for: Primarily Sega. Especially MegaDrive, Mega CD, and 32X.

What you do in "real life": GameStop (Sad I know, but hey I have fun).

Any other interesting facts, like how you began collecting, etc:

I got my MegaDrive back in Christmas 1990. I was a pretty casual gamer until August 2000, when I bought my Saturn, because I wanted to play VF2, HoTD, Virtua Cop, Die Hard Arcade, and all of Sega's arcade games at home. This is what converted me from a Sony fanboy, to a hardcore Sega nut. I got my 32X a year later, and my Mega CD in November 2001. Dreamcast came along in January 2002. The Dreamcast is the greatest console ever made.

I own nearly 600 games, and am constantly getting more all the time. If you're interested at all, here's a link to my collection: http://users.ign.com/collection/Cloud121

It started a few years after I had sold Mega Man 6 for the nes, I just had to have another copy, so I bought that one, and said oh wait. I should get the rest of the nes titles too, and here I am today looking for games. :)

What your favorite games are
I love many kinds of games, but here are some of my favorites: Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario, Zelda, Super Mario RPG, Okami, God of War 1 and 2, Halo, and the list goes on...

What systems you collect for
NES, Super NES, Genesis, 32X, Game Gear, Game Boy (all versions up to Advance), Dreamcast, Gamecube, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and 360... that's all I have for now...

What you do in "real life"
Go to college to advance my studies in journalism and film studies, with the hopes of becoming a journalist, particularly one covering movies, video games and other entertainment mediums (but I like writing about many different things)

Any other interesting facts, like how you began collecting, etc.
I've been an avid gamer since 1992 (thank you, Sonic!) and have been watching films seriously since 2000. I began collecting games after studying the changing prices of old games for a while, yet it truly took effect because of Earl Gray, "a true inspiration to the children"

05-27-2007, 04:34 PM
I go by Knoxximus, and, by the description header of these forums and the threads I've read so far, I believe I may have finally found a home. I was born in '73, and reared on Radio Shack 6-in-1's and Odyssey II's. It just goes downhill from there.LOL

Anyhoo, just wanted to say what's up and I'm happy to see that gaming didn't turn out to be the fad my mother said it would be!\\^_^/

I live in Las Vegas, and will be attending the expo this year, and I was there the last time it was here (like, 2 years ago?).

I found this place ironically by asking a forum member in another forum (Wii60.com) where he was getting info about the new PS3 upscaling quality. He posted a link to here. So I poked around a bit, liked what I saw, and said what the heck?

I'm a Hemodialysis Technican by trade for now, and I also hold a BS in Sports Med that I don't currently use. I also have had the great fortune of having some of my music (I'm a hip hop music producer) featured in some Midway games for the PS2/Xbox/PSP. It's awesome to have been able to some way have been apart of something that has pretty much defined my existance. Thanks to that partnership, I'm also proud to say that I've been to 3 E3's before they went private (01', 05', '06). I was happy to be able to cross that off of my "things to do before I die" list.\\^_^/

I collect for pretty much NES on up. I have a 2600, but don't collect for it. I'm also a MAME'r, and have a 33" Dynamo Showcase cab setup. Gotten lots of free pizza thanks to it.ROFL

My fav games are action/adventure side scrollers, RPG's, Action RPG's (Top down, side scrolling, or 3D), 3rd person shooters (1st person are ok too),...hell, I'll play damn near anything except sports simulations (will be play the arcadey ones though i.e. Baseball Stars, NBA Jam, Blitz, etc.).

Interesting facts? Well, I pride myself on being probably one of the best Strider 1 players in the world. I can beat that game on 1 man if I so choose to (usually waste the others scabbing for points...High Scores FTW!!). I remember I used to think it was the hardest game in the world, so I made it my mission to own it (this was back when it was like the best game out...right before Street Fighter hit). I'ma little rusty nowadays, but I can still beat it on one credit.:pimp:

Anyhoo, thanks for reading! Hopefully I'll see some of you at the expo this year!

What I collect:
-All systems except the new ones.... pretty much anything Intellivision / Atari era to Nintendo 64 / Sega Saturn / Turbo Grafx 16 (all the stuff I really grew up with).... I have an Xbox and a wii, but haven't played the XBOX in a long time, and wii was meant for resale, just got a little hooked on zelda, so I still have it...

How I got into this:
-got into classic gaming on a friends thought that I could make some money on reselling.. well I have, but recently have found I'm keeping just about as much as I'm reselling... Grew up with the intellivision and atari, moved on to the NES, and the rest was history.. I love all the older games and really don't like the new stuff. And well, thats basically it!

I'm Rick. Been here a little bit, only posted once, I'm a bit of a shy fella when it comes to message boards.

I've been collecting games since I was five. I'm now almost 22. Do the math. =p

I have about 250+ NES games. A small-ass amount compared to most people's here, but it's difficult to collect things with little money. My ultimate goal is to someday get an NES Prototype game.

That's it here.

Sorry I'm late in introducing myself!

You can call me Jimmy, the Arkansan, usually known as 8-Bit Star or some variation thereof. I found this place because I told Max Lords that I was planning on ditching some of my games but Ebay sounds too complicated, so he said I should just do it here if my only goal is to clear room. Right now though, my feelings are kinda mixed. Don't really have any "favorite" games, and I'm not currently sure what the closest would be. Maybe Might & Magic for the NES.

I mostly collect for older systems, specifically the NES, SNES, PC-Engine, and Genesis/Sega CD. Also I sometimes collect older PC games (in fact there is one particularly obscure one I'm trying to find). But recently I've kind of put off game collecting, partly because there's no stores in my local area that deal in older consoles (well there are, but they're almost exclusively stocked with Sports games) and partly because the money I have is going towards my other interests at the moment.

Besides gaming, I'm also an animation-holic and have been practicing art and scripting so I can draw my own comic, and learning Japanese with an aim towards eventually getting into imports (as well as playing the import PC-E games I already have--no I won't use ROMs or patches) and also because I find this helps me think.

That was probably a longer belated introduction than I really needed or warranted, but thanks for sitting through it!

I live in Northern California and have been playing games for 11 years.

My first system was the SNES which I got in '96 when the N64 was released, and the first game I had was Killer Instinct (which was packed in with the system).

My favorite types of games are fighting (more 2d than 3d), racing and shooting, but I'll play anything if it's good.

I mainly collect Dreamcast stuff and have finished getting all 247 US released games. You can see pictures of my stuff from the link in my signature. Currently I'm looking for a boxed US version Samba de Amigo Maracas controller and any 1st/3rd party accessory I come across.

Also I heard about this site from gametz.com and www.tradegamesnow.com

Well, it's time to show myself here too :)
I've been lurking only a few days and decided to fess up, so here I am.

I'm from The Netherlands and have been buying consoles since the NES. Part from the Atari Jaguar I haven't strayed from the Nintendo path till the 360 came by, but that ain't very retro yet :)
I'm not a collector...yet, what I have now is all just for fun and games, no collecting yet. I own the NES with 9 games and a zapper, games are cart only, console and zapper are boxed. I have a SNES with 15 games, all complete, a classic Gameboy with 10 games, most complete, a Jaquar with everything complete and 6 games complete, an N64 with 9 games complete, a GC with 12 games complete, a 360 with everything complete and a DS all complete. (pretty hard not to :P)
And I'm the crazy dude that just bought the mint VB from ebay you may have noticed, far too expensive from the looks of it, but hey :)

I am a DVD collector so this whole "cart only" deal is pretty weird for me, I cant imagine buying a DVD with "disc only", so right now I'm aiming to buy boxed and sealed, to get used to the "cart only" deals. I started collecting DVDs by buying the most expensive rarity out there, so just point me in the right direction! ;)
I'm looking to get NES, SNES and N64 stuff at first, seeing as my room is filled to the brim with DVDs there is little room for consoles.

Cart only...bbbrrrr..... :)

06-07-2007, 07:08 PM
hey I'm new here and live in the western U.S., I been a collector and gamer pretty much all my life since the mid to late 80's gaming has always been a passionite entertainment of mine.

I remember playing the old Arcade games like Donkey Kong and Pac-man back in the day (still personal favs to this day!) along with playing Atari 2600, Commodore 64, and of course the NES which was my first system. I was also into Sega Genesis and the old PC DOS stuff (Commander Keen and Duke Nukem etc...) in the 90's.

I collect for all those plus more obscure systems: SMS, BBC Micro and MSX stuff to name a few. I'm a big MSX fan. It had alot of quality 8-bit games that you couldn't find on NES. My username Gandhara is from an old action/rpg MSX2 game I like from Enix (of Dragon Warrior fame) that I wished they would have payed more attention to in the future, but check it out if you have not played it before.

I have so many favorite games so I'll just name some series I like and play often: Pac-man, Gradius, Parodius, Aleste, Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, Adventure Island, Wonderboy, Shinobi, Strider, Pitfall, Zelda, Sonic, Valis/Fantasm Soldier, Alex Kidd, and Outrun.

Besides Gaming I like collecting the old Shaw Brothers and Golden Harvest kf movies.

Hello! My name is Deku_Grumble, and I live in the U.S. I'm 18. That's all I'll say about this for now! :p

I found digitalpress from browsing Google trying to find a forum that was about retrogaming and that many people went to a lot. I found too many retrogaming forums that havent been used in months!

I am a major Nintendo fanboy, so naturally my favorite games are Mario and Zelda. I do have some non-Nintendo systems, the PS2, Genesis, Game Gear. My favorite non-Nintendo series is the Tony Hawk games.

I don't really collect games right now. I just buy stuff I like that's out right now.

In real life, I just graduated from High School. I am going to college to be a computer programmer. I like skateboarding (though I'm not a punk or anything), taking pictures, music, retrogaming, etc.

I started gaming when I was 3, back when the NES started to die and the Super Nintendo was coming out. I got the NES and Super Nintendo, along with the Sega Genesis and the Sega Game Gear. Eventually I couldn't keep getting every system, I'm not that rich! So I liked Nintendo the best so I mainly get Nintendo stuff.

So... see you all around!

Hey my names clicked and I'm from PR. I'm 16.

I was recommended to the forums by someone on the Nintendo Forums. I love gaming in general. My favorite developer/company is Nintendo. I dont know what I would do without them.

I got into collecting a few months back and I'm starting to build my collection. I have all the Nintendo consoles and almost all the Sega ones, only missing the Master System.

I'm still a High School student. I'm very much into anything related to Tech. On my free time I obviously love playing video games and when I'm not doing that I'm either busy creating stuff on my computer or learning how to do new stuff on it.

See you guys on the boards!

Hello, I'm new and I see there are a lot of arcade gamers on this forum. I'm currently starting on an arcade game project and I need a little help. I'm going to build a Splatterhouse arcade game cabinet with 100% authentic arcade game parts (I'd rather not build a MAME cabinet or anything like it). Has anybody else here done anything like this before that maybe could fill me in with information on anything I may need to know? I'd appreciate the help.

What's up folks. This looks to be about the best site for classic gaming I have seen yet. Long story short, I got my first NES when I was 5, and went from there. I mostly collect NES/ SNES/ PS1 stuff; newer stuff doesn't appeal to me very much (with the exception of MGS3, I just got that, and damn). Anyways, glad to be here.

Hello, my name is Jacob. I'm seventeen and don't have a job so all I do all day is play video games. It's heaven.

I live in New Hampshire in a small, quiet town. It kind of sucks because there are no local stores where I can go to buy games.

I have known about this website for about three years now. I browse the forums all the time, but up until now, I have been too lazy to register. Originally, I found this website through another website which I found out about through nintendo power.

I love and collect all kinds of games, for all kinds of systems. I don't think I have ever played a game that I didn't enjoy(sports games don't count). I am always looking for more games. I can't get enough.

I got into video games at the age of three. My father decided to set up his nintendo, in the living room, for me to play around with. I was hooked after the first day. As I got older, I slowly got more games and more systems. More recently, I have gotten into the collecting aspect of the hobby a lot more. I have been trying to make sure I have complete copies of games and stuff like that.

This forum is amazing for someone who plays and collects video games and I am glad to finally be a member of it! :)

Chip here. I live in Kentucky and I've been lurking around these forums for quite awhile...just finally decided to reigster. I'm not so interested in "classic" systems and so forth, although I did cut my teeth on the original Atari 2600. I spend most of my time playing with the current gen consoles and buying any stuff I don't already have for the PS1, DC and N64 gens forward. Lots of good deals on x-box and PS2 stuff in my community lately, so I've been catching up on those items.

I'm Nick, 17, and from Paramus, New Jersey. I was lucky enough to hear about the DP store from a friend, and actually walked inside yesterday. Needless to say i was amazed. Through the store, I found the website, and here I am.

If you ask anyone in my family, they can tell you that I was born to be a gamer. I first picked up an NES controller at the age of 2, and it wasn't to play some Sesame Street game. I started out playing Dragon Warrior and Double Dragon. I was raised well by my NES.

I don't really have a collection as of right now, the largest amount of games I have is for my NES, which comes to a grand total of about 25 or so. I hope to pick up an Super Nintendo, or at least an FC Twin, as my NES is now shorting out a bit. I hope to start a collection of some Super Nintendo games, and hopefully buy some rare imports.

I only have a game boy advance right now. I used to own quite a few systems. I am growing a bit bored of todays games. I want to buy some older systems but I'm not sure which will bring me the most happiness.

I don't think I was ever a collector. I mean, I always purchased games that I knew were good and that I'd want to play. However, after down sizing my stuff I'm not sure it was a good idea.

Hey everyone, my name is Jason. I currently work at the University of Delaware while studying for my masters. I found out about this website from co-worker who just so happens to be an admin

I started gaming at NES and if there is one game i regret never beating for that, its Little Nemo. I have played on every system since then. My favorite types of games are FPS, RPG, and shmups. there is only one fighting game i like to play, SSBM. While certainly not the best, I did manage to fair well in the tournaments i used to go to.

I don't get rid of games that I buy, so i am definitely curious to find out what artifacts i may posses (if any).

Other than gaming, i love driving cars. i own a 74 chevy nova, and a 93 300zx. i love to play with both and drive them on nice weekends. \

Chad

How old are you? (If you don't mind shocking us)

25

- Where you live

Newark, OH - possibly Pittsburgh, PA soon.

- How you found the forums

Started the Online Rarity Guide last summer when I realized I could buy all the old gaming systems I never got to have while I was growing up!!

- What your favorite games are

Cop-out answer: too many to choose. I currently try to cycle between playing PS2, 360, Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn, NES, Cube, and sometimes Wii.

- What systems you collect for

Primarily Genesis as it's the easiest to find in my semi-hick town. NES carts are also everywhere, but they seem to be more overpriced and less fun (or I really remember Genny better than NES, due to my age and when I played them growing up, and therefore they have less nostalgia value).

- What you do in "real life"

Marketing Director for a nonprofit theatre. Currently looking forward to finding and starting my 2nd job post-grad.

- Any other interesting facts, like how you began collecting, etc.

I always used to sell my games as a kid to trade up to the newest system. Great practice at the time, but now I'm stuck trying to recollect anything I used to have. That's how it started last summer - and I quickly decided to try and expand into things that I never got to have. I don't see myself as a collector, more of a game gatherer. "Factory Sealed" = useless to me.

Cool story to note for the future: I read about one gamer/collector who used to trade up all his stuff for newer games & systems, with one major catch. It was his parents that used to buy the stuff from him. Unbeknownst to him, his parents hoarded all the stuff he "traded in", paying him for it as if they sold it, then upon reaching a certain age in his 20's (I don't recall and it doesn't matter) they revealed to him everything he thought he got rid of previously. Needless to say, sudden massive collection. I would've cried/died.

I am a girl that collects, plays, lives, and breathes video games in New Jersey with her husband.

I found the forums because of the online rarity guide digital press has; I've gone to the VG Expo, formerly Philly Classic, for 3 years in a row now, and Digi Press always has guys selling books, so I thought I'd have a look see at how rare my collection actually is.

My favorite games are mostly role playing, puzzle, and rhythm, but I play everything, from old point and click adventures from Lucas Arts on the PC, to tactical games like the Might and Magic series. If you were to ask me what my favorite games are, though? in the Role Playing category, it's a close tie between Final Fantasy VI and Suikoden II. Puzzle game would have to be Super Puzzle Fighter, and Rhythm is gonna be Gitaroo Man.

I collect all systems, old and new. I have a method to my madness- I prefer role playing titles and good games in general, plus anything Atlus, Koei, Capcom, Konami, Nintendo, and Sega. I collect for nostalgia and gameplay over rarity for the most part, but these days, I'm looking to fill my collection out with some rarer pieces.

IRL I'm a graphic designer- need anything done? Im totally available for freelance and I love working with video game themes.

I had like EVERYTHING when I was a kid, my brother and I were bookish types, either reading or playing games as opposed to playing outside- I didn't even learn to ride a bike till I was 12. Needless to say I had a fairly stellar stash of stuff that goes for hundreds on ebay now, but it's all lost to moves and time. When I graduated college and moved in with my husband, one day we decided to pick up Jumping Flash for him, but it had to be in the long box. I thought- you know, I'd really like to own all of those good games again. So, we were off to the races.

I've been viewing this site and collecting everything from offbeat handheld game cartridges to vintage game toys for almost two years and now I feel it's time to atleast scrape-off the excess of my vast (but not as good as most people here) collection. Obviously I'll need alot of help, although I probably won't sell online, and what better place to recieve game advice than from the big dogs themselves?
