Greetings, all!

Although actually approved a few weeks back, its better to be late than never.

I am TinStarFox, AKA Christopher!

Born in that odd post-crash/pre-NES period of 1984, gaming has been a part of my life since the start!

My hometown is Elmira, NY...famous for being the place where Mark Twain summered/wrote many of his classic works.

I discovered Digital Press while looking for an active/respected message board outlet for my SNES/NES/Wii appreciations!

My username originated half a decade ago{in the now-closed SNES Central Forums}, plus I was a part of G4's message boards, too{both directly proceeding/after the TechTV merger..can't recall what my name was there}.

At one point in time, I owned many systems{Odyssey2, various VFD/LCD-based handhelds, Atari 2600, ColecoVision, Atari 5200, Sega Master System, Game Boy{regular/pocket}, Sega Nomad, orig. PlayStation, N64, Sega Saturn, PS2, GameCube}: but only 4 have connected with me enough to stay the course/build libraries from.

They're the NES, the SNES, the Genesis{including 32X and Sega CD}, and the Wii!

I'm also a member of various retro gaming-related forums-
Sega-16{Insector_X_Perts}
VAPS/KLOV{BurgerTimePilot}
&
Retro Pizza Zone{Don'tSmokeCrayolas}

I've relocated some of the Sega-16 crew, plus I welcome reconnecting with those familiar faces from VAPS/RPZ, too!

In "real life", I split time between being a History Major{U.S./U.K./Asia mostly} and Gender Studies Minor, plus I run a small eBay business[focused upon items from the 80s-today].

I look forward to chatting with you all, and thanks for letting me become a part of this deep community!

Hi there everyone. I'm a retro game collector, got into it about 3 years ago so I'm not an OG. Do enjoy it thought and recently got a Sega Saturn, been playing that a bit.

I also enjoy modding console in various ways. Mostly upgraded A/V outputs, but pride myself in keeping the consoles as original as possible as far as not having to cut the case. Recently Modded an ARP 4M to have an extra 256k of flash and can switch between Pseudo Saturn Kai and Action Reply for saves on it.

Anyway guess I'm rambling at this point. Also wanted to know what does a member need to have to be able to sell on the sellers market here?

Thank you for your time, peace!

Hi Everyone!

I'm an amateur video game collector, with a tiny collection mostly focused on 8/16 bits consoles. My main focus is the Super Nintendo (PAL), I've got about a hundred cartridges. As I've started collecting quite late (about 5 years ago), I mainly have loose cartridges, as they are more affordable and take less space on my gaming shelf ;).

I also have several Gameboy models (DMG, pocket, color, advance, advance SP and micro), and about 50-60 games, as I love the Nintendo handelds (well, the retro one).

But more than collecting, I'm actually an amateur game designer / developer. After years of hesitations and failed attempts, this summer I finally made the big leap and I've started to create my first homebrew game, for the Gameboy. The game was released about a month ago, I'll make a post about it for those who are interested.

Although not easy, I really enjoyed the experience, so next I'll either make another GB game, or try to make a game for the Super Nintendo :).

I'm Gus Mota, aka Teacher Gus, 32.

I live in São Paulo, Brazil, and found the forums while navigating the web searching for info on Atari 2600 programmers. I play pretty much anything retro, but what touches my heart the most is the Atari 2600 and the NES. Even so, I don't collect them, as collecting is an expensive hobby here in Brazil. I am a teacher of English as a second language, so I don't have that much money to begin with!

I have a modest Youtube channel that has some retro stuff (like interviews!) on it, too, and I host it with my wife. Its name is Baixa Definição, which translates to Low Definition, reflecting the retrogames and our own way of dealing with life and defining ourselves.

What region games do you collect? And what region games are sold in Brazil to begin with?

The games we get are all imported from the US. Hence the expensive prices.

I am guessing the U.S. because it's closer than Europe or Japan? (PAL and NTSC-J)

Hello fellow gamers. My name is Tracy and I’m from Iowa. I’ve been married for 19 years and have four wonderful kids. I started gaming in the mid 1980’s and my first system was a pong console. My how times have changed as I now have an Xbox One X Scorpio Edition. Recently I’ve been collecting Original Xbox games. I’m going for a complete set and I currently have 550 titles. My latest score is a complete copy of Jurassic Park Operation Genesis for $50. I’m still looking for a few hard to find titles so any help would be greatly appreciated. The following are systems I’ve either owned or still own:

I started off back in the day with the Odyssey 2, ZX-81 (built from a kit with my Dad) & the TI-99/4A. I did a lot of programming for my Mom. She was a teacher and embraced computers in the classroom.

As a young adult, I was heavily into the Jaguar & Lynx, and started getting into the 2600. I also enjoyed some gaming on the Apple II and Mac (pre-PowerPC platforms).

In the 1990s, I spent as much time hunting at flea markets and thrift stores as I did playing games. There was nothing like the thrill of finding something rare, or something previously unlisted (in the DP Guide).

The only gaming shows IÂ’ve been to are Videotopia and Philly Classic. Two of my favorite places to shop at back in the day were Toad Computers (south of Baltimore) for new Atari stuff and the Classic Connection (Howell, NJ) for classic gaming in general.

I should mention that I've been away from most gaming for 17 years or so. Recently, IÂ’ve been going through boxes that have been taped up for as long. I have way more stuff than I could ever use and I'm paring down. I'm quite surprised at what things are worth these days. I've been selling on ebay of course. Ebay is a different animal these days as well and not for the better really.

My goal is to get my collection down to a manageable size that I can enjoy. For now, I'll probably take advantage of the buying and selling forum, and then perhaps later contribute more to other areas of the forum. That's just where I'm at in life.

Even though I may post for selling, I'd prefer to handle transactional information by pm one on one rather than in the open forum. I like to enjoy a little privacy.

Well, that's about it. I've probably forgotten plenty of things (comes with being old), but this is a pretty long post already.

Heh - you sound like a youngster to me - all a matter of perspective though - although it sounds like I am a bit older than you I didn't get into videogames until 1985 (discounting the ubiquitous pong era). I will leave you my walker in my will whenever I check out..................

Hello everyone, I think it's been like 10 years since I've posted on this site. One of my favorite places to hang out... but because of life, and responsibilities, I've been away too long. It's hard because at this stage in my life I don't have 1-3 hours at a time to play, so I turned to mobile gaming.

Unfortunately, mobile games have evolved into two pathways and sometimes both: either completely free with ads every round/30 seconds/levels or in-app purchases. The ladder is worse because the game never ends. Just new characters, etc so that you either play and go DREADFULLY slow or pay and get the best items/characters. I’m reaching a place where I hate it all, and miss the times when we paid $60 and had a full, complete and harassment free game. I have been playing this Star Wars game and $60 is really meaningless, it just gives you stepping stones to new characters (not fully ready ones), so it doesn’t really advance the game since there is no end.

So I am happy and sad to come back to my nostalgic favorites. Happy because it was such a fun era, and sad because it seems that the trend is going to ads/pay per play type of games so I'll never experience the fun and joy of new games.

Sorry for the rant, but I am happy to once again join the community!

Hi, I'm Mark. I go by Maruko Tenada online (Games, Twitch, etc.) and I'm from Pennsylvania, USA.

I recently started going back to my gaming roots, and wanted to find a forum to learn and discuss. Thanks to Bing (Yes, Bing!) I found this site.

I like casual games, RPGs, games that are fun, not necessarily hard-core. I've played some MMOs, but due to my schedule, tend to go solo. My first gaming experiences were my Grandmother's 2600 (she loved Mrs. Pacman) and the Commodore 64 and Apples at school. However, at the time, I didn't recognize how special they were.

Getting back to my roots means NES! My first system was an NES, and I didn't get another system until a Gameboy Advanced, so Nintendo is my lineage. :) I had friends with Genesis, Playstation, and others, but Nintendo is where my heart is. In between, I played a lot of PC games also. (Secret of Monkey Island FTW!!!)
My current line-up of systems is a Retron 3 (NES, SNES (and Super Gameboy), and Genesis), a Wii (Gamecube and Wii), a PS2, and a 2DS. (And PC of course)

I know you can get a lot of old games through the 'Mini' systems, and Virtual Consoles on the Nintendo line, but there's something about having that physical media, am I right? I remember the days of renting or borrowing games from friends with great fondness. A good week at school meant a Friday night visit to the local video rental place to see what games and movies we'd spend our weekend with. All nighters with Rampage cause who ever heard of save points. Ahh... the life.

In real life, I'm a computer programmer, mostly doing C# web development. So, computers are in my blood. However, I like to unplug, get outdoors, hike, camp, and spend time with friends of course.

I'm looking for tips, so I'll be sure to read through the posts. Thanks for the place to come and be... totally retro!

Tell us any or all of the following:
- Who you are
Brian
- Where you live
NYC
- How you found the forums
Trying to find like minded individuals.
- What your favorite games are
Too many to name, but I'm currently playing (slowly):
- Minish cap
- Link to the past
- Metroid Fusion
- Metroid Zero Mission
- Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
- 3DS Ocarina of Time
Recently beat the new Shadowrunner indie games on Steam. Really liked them, and it's rare I'm able to sit through a whole game, but I did more than one.
Before I had kids, I played a lot of MMOs including Evercrack, AO, SWG, and WoW.
I have some old favorites, but don't play them now.:
- M.U.L.E
- Virus (Amiga game)
- Bards Tale series
- Shuffle Puck cafe
- Civ series
- Empire
- Most Epyx games
- and many many more...
That said, even though I've gamed since childhood in the 1980s, I'm recently spending much more time collecting.. prowling ebay, and other game sale sites. Also getting pretty familiar with pricecharting.com.
- What systems you collect for:
Primarily focusing on handhelds, particularly Nintendo. With my strongest focus on GBA. I also want to own all the major handhelds. Currently have all the nintendo ones (ignoring special editions and variants), GG, Nomad, Atari Lynx, NGPC and PSP. Need TurboExpress still, but it's a real commitment, and want to make more progress on GBA before branching out further. I did buy NES, SNES, N64, and GC systems and games too, when I first started collecting, but realized I need to focus, due to the NYC apartment thing, and limited budget thing. (I'm thinking about trading or selling my non-handheld games and systems over time, to make more space to focus on handhelds.)
- What you do in "real life"
Manage Linux servers, in the "cloud"
- Any other interesting facts, like how you began collecting, etc.
Collecting is my "mid-life crisis", as a way to reconnect with my youth. It started out trying to play some old GBA games on an emulator on my Android phone, and then evolved to a flash cart in a real GBA-SP. From there it's devolved/evolved into a true obsession collecting loose, CIB and sealed. So far it's been cheaper than a sports car, but if things continue, that may not be the case. At this point I have way more than I need for my collection and need to start trading away things that are extra, for things I need. I have a small selection of big box games, nothing amazing, of games I've played, that I'd like to find a home for. (I can't see myself ever collecting big box pc games, mostly due to my living situation.)

I'd really like to meet local GBA collectors, and show them my collection, maybe trade, and exchange knowledge. I've discovered that there are a couple major GBA collectors out there but none that I know of that are local, which I'm sure is just me not having met the right people. I found someone (dreamtr) who has a full collection, but they are in TN.) I'm working on my own lists of rares and uncommons that I'd like to compare notes. (Or if there is a list floating around, I would appreciate it.)

My goals for my GBA collection as of today, are to get all the super rares, rares, and maybe even all the uncommons in CIB or sealed, and probably go for a complete set, collecting the bulk loose (I definitely don't have room or budget for a full set of CIB+). I'm not actively seeking garbage loose carts, but do add them to my collection when I happen to pick them up in a lot. I have many spare, and wouldn't mind exchanging garbage carts with people who are looking to complete collections. I also have spares of some popular loose carts that I am open to trading. (Think top 25 games.)

I'm working with the creator of pricecharting.com to clean up the GBA section, as it's missing things and doesn't have breakouts for PAL and JP. I'm obsessed with collecting GBA.. and know about as much as possible for someone who's been doing it as a hobby for less than a year.

For background these are the systems I've owned through my life when they were new. C64, Amiga, PCjr, various PCs, NextStation Color, various Macbooks, SMS, Atari Lynx, Genesis, 3DO, GG, PS2, GBA-SP (AGS-001), new 2DS. My brother had an NES and a GB when we were kids. Sadly all of the classic stuff except the Lynx system and loose carts, have been lost to the mists of time, and many moves.

I forgot, my first two systems:
- Binatone (UK version) - I got it as a present and then my family moved to the US. It was basically 6 variants of pong, and no carts.
- Atari 2600 - had a ton of loose games. Remember I gave them all to a friend when I got into commodore gaming.

My name is Jorge, but friends call me Jor. I'm 44 years old and live in Mexico City. I stumbled across this great site more than 10 years ago, but at that time I registered and only used to read all different threads and posts. Now I decided it was time to return and be an active member (thanks to Nz17 for helping me with my username!).

My first system was an Atari 2600 (probably in 1984, and how I loved to play Spider Fighter), and from there I went to the NES which I only had for about two months. Then I discovered the Sega Master System around 1987 or so and have been building up my collection since then for my favorite system and some others.

Most of my attention is focused on the SMS/Mark III, PC Engine and Neo Geo Pocket Color, but also collect and sometimes play games for many other systems like the Genesis, SNES, Dreamcast, Playstation, Saturn, Famicom, WonderSwan, Atari 2600 etc.

I stopped going to flea markets and trade/buy with some of the guys I knew for years because my eyes are in bad condition due to an illness. That is also in part the reason I have to let go some of my beloved treasures.

I also enjoy cooking for my friends. I believe the last dish I tried to make was okonomiyaki. Oh, and a good coffee is always welcomed :)

Thanks for reading!

MY favorite games are F-Zero X, Super Smash Bros, Street Fighter 2: Special Champion Edition and Samurai Shodown IV. My consoles are Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Starfox 64, Quest 64, Mace The Dark Age and Fighter Destiny 2 for Nintendo 64 and Super Mario Party and Brawlhalla for Nintendo Switch. My real job is scanning these papers at OFEO. I go exercising, playing video games and reading books.

Hi,

I'm from the UK and been gaming since the late since 1980. First system was a Philips Videopac which is the Euro version of the Magnavox Odyssey 2. First computer was the Acorn Electron followed by the Speccy.

I'm owner of a retrogaming business producing high quality models.

Favourite games change all the time but would be Monkey Island 2, Road Rash, The Last Of Us, Dune 2 etc etc

Welcome! Monkey Island was a great series.

What kind of stuff do you do with your business?

Heya guys and gals.
I've been on here for a few years now, but was never real active. Traditionally, I am more active on NintendoAge, but like scouting multiple forums.
I decided to touch base because we recently launched he Kickstarter for Candelabra: Estoscerro. It's the First NES Homebrew Dungeon Crawler, and it is awesome!
It's too cool not to share, I'll make a post in the appropriate category. Don't want to spam the site :p

Hello. I applied for an account awhile ago, but never got a confirmation. Today I got an email, so here I am!

Where I work & live is too personal, but I can say I like Pacman, Tetris, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Puzzle Bobble, Platformers, & Pokemon.

I've used the main site for years, too long to remember.

Hey guys! Found this place a few times come up a few times from googling all sorts of Famicom games, so decided I should join, since I'm getting a collection built up. Hoping to get some good discussion about older and/or Japanese games!

I've got Famicom, N64, GC, Wii U, PS2, PS3, GBA, DS, 3DS, PS Vita, and Game Gear!

Can we be honest here and say that these people are just creating accounts to be able to read the Off Topic threads? There are always new accounts but no new posters. At any given time, there are hundreds of people online reading the threads but the same 3-7 people always posting.
