Hi, I'm Bruce Morrison from NYC.
I only just found this website. I'm not a collector and never been a part of the retro scene.
In 2005 I started a project to bring Marathon to Xbox LIVE Arcade. In 2007 my team finished the game and it went on sale.
I have an obsessive love for the game Marathon, and all older FPS titles.

Hey guys, I'm Ed and I'm a pretty big fan of oldschool gaming. I'm 18 and actually got into it pretty late (post-2000's) because growing up we didn't have any videogame systems, only PC. My first system was my cousin's used GBA, and since then I've collected several new and old systems, including NES, N64, PS1, PS2, DS, Wii, Odyssey 2, a Super Pong, etc. I'm primarily a PC gamer when it comes to modern gaming, having built several gaming rigs for myself and friends.
I'm not a hardcore collector, I don't have anything rare, and I mostly collect the games I want to play, but I still have a great interest in these old games. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of playing NES with my grandma; we played games such as SMB1 and 3, Tennis, Bases Loaded, etc, and she taught me most of what I know about SMB. Just found this forum while I was in my "retro mode" and it looks like a great place!

My name is Josh. I started collecting when I was 9 years old. Now that I am fourteen I have a fairly large collection of classic games. Collecting old games has became a key part of my life. When I get out of school I enjoy warming up the Vcs or the Nes and playing my heart out. I never have accepted modern technology as much as I should have. When I see any type of old technology I come to it like a moth to a light bulb!ROFL

Haha, I'm kinda like that too. At least when it comes to certain stuff, like cars and videogame systems. Old stuff is just so cool! I guess we're sort of young stubborn old men. GET OFF MY LAWN :grumble:

I haven't been here in three months, so I figured it was high time to reintroduce myself. The other day I went to the Digital Press store in Clifton to start my Genesis collection and I figured that since I took the time to finally visit the store, I need to get back on here.

Hey all you beautiful people! Well, my screen name is obvious, but I also go by Kellan, my parent-given name. I've been obsessed with retro games since they were contemporary (one of my fondest early memories is unwrapping my first Sega Genesis bundle, Christmas '94), but only recently have I truly come to be as truly obsessed as I am. Not a big collector of obscure systems, but I have the essentials, an NES top loader, SNES, Genesis, PS3 and Wii, and a boatload for all of them - unfortunately, all my RL friends are pretty mediocre and generally unappreciative of games, so I come here seeking like-minded comraderie!
In my life apart from the controller, I am a daytime phone receptionist at a medical clinic, and a night time novelist - my work in progress deals quite heavily in video games, as it is a "period piece" which takes place during the Sega/SNES years and beyond - this monster is another prime reason I've chosen to sign up. To see other people's views, and further my understanding of the entertainment medium I love most.
But down to brass tacks...I haven't listed my favorite games!! Kinda hard to narrow it down, but I'm going to have to go with some flimsy sort of top 5:
1. SMW2: Yoshi's Island
2. Earthbound
3. Super Castlevania IV
4. Duck Tales
5. Mega Man 2
There's so many others though...pretty much everything Konami came out with from like 91-95, Sonic 1 & 2, A Link to the Past...yada yada yada. Anyway, I look forward to meeting everyone, and sharing the love!

I've been on this site for about a month now, but for some reason just noticed this thread. My name is Chris and I'm from Ohio. I've recently gotten back into my genesis. Compared to some of the maniacs on here I wouldn't really call myself a collector but I have managed to acquire about 50 genesis games in the last month, including four systems and a sega cd for no good reason. A couple master system games (but no console:() and some sega cd games. I have also gotten my hands on a neo geo pocket color with some games. Im looking forward to getting more of everything I guess. My childhood games ruled and Modern Warfare 2 just makes me break xbox controllers, so here I am.:)

Hey everbuddeh, I'm Lucas, from Connecticut and now Los Angeles. I'm a 20-year-old kid who's put an unreasonable amount of time into playing video games, and would do it all over again.
My first video game system was an Atari 2600 my parents got at a garage sale for $6 at age 4, and I've slowly but surely been giving myself carpal tunnel ever since. I've always been a few years behind the curve in terms of video game systems, and I've been loving it; makes it easier to pick out the best ones to add to your library.
I've been favoring the Playstation systems for modern console games over the last few years, but I'm open to any and all unique, memorable, or otherwise awesome games. Lately I've been enjoying the hell out of Red Dead Redemption and Fallout 3.
The story often makes the game for me; I find myself find myself attracted to games that weave complex, meaningful character interactions through a fully realized universe. A tall order, to be sure, but it's all the more satisfying when I find a game that hits it just right. I know video games to be a true form of art, and when a developer shows they realized this, it makes me quite happy.
Some of my favorite games and series include:
Silent Hill
Metal Gear series (the MSX titles are some of the most intense 8-bit games I've ever played.)
Xenogears
Kirby series (easy but wonderful)
Sonic the Hedgehog
Megaman Legends (highly under-rated adventure game, beautiful character interactions and story.)
Thief: The Dark Project
Half-Life
Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey
Beyond playin vidya games on the couch, I like to play rock and roll, act on stage, shout, and generally behave like a benevolent degenerate.

I've always been a few years behind the curve in terms of video game systems...
Isn't our age an interesting perspective to come at gaming from? Right between that awkward SNES/N64 origin of species...I never knew which generation I belonged to. Haha, I guess it's the Sega generation.
Well welcome! And thanks for the reminder of Mega Man Legends...holy cow, haven't thought about that game forever!
Greetings everyone! I'm Zama and it's nice to meet ya all! :) I'm a casual collector of all types of video games and love playing them as well. Now, I shall wander into the wild whereever video games are sold. xD

Hi, my name is Richard. I have pretty much all the games I want right now - around 550 over many systems, all regions - but I'm always on the lookout for obscure things I might have missed. I've been into video games for around 20 years, and importing for 10 of those. Although I do own some rare and expensive stuff, I don't know if I'd be classed as a collector since I only buy games that I enjoy; I generally don't care to make purchases just because an item is rare, and I don't aim to own every game on a certain platform, etc.
These forums are quite well known and I've lurked here a lot, just never had a reason to post. Sometimes this site is the only place with any info on certain things, and I have some questions I need real collectors to answer!
Hi, I'm migo. I'm a fan of fighting games, but my hands cramp up playing them unless I'm on an arcade stick (or SFIV on iOS, but the controls are unprecise and therefore less satisfying), so I've been eyeing the Neo Geo Pocket Color and have been researching it to see if I should buy it. Google searches led me here.

As I put together my collection of old consoles I have here in my home I kept referencing back to this forum through google searches so I thought I'd might as well join. Most of my collection has been acquired at the moment some of it I had to astroturf through eBay. I found out 3 of my consoles were non-working so I subtituted them for alternate versions just to keep things interesting. I might post pictures later.

Hi , my name is Jeroen (you can call me Jay) from The Netherlands.
I'm 32 and I've been gaming for as long as I can remember. As a 4 year old, having US army expatriot neighbours we got exposed to all the COOL USA stuff like toys, tv shows and,YES also videogames, which were pretty rare in the early 80's: only the really rich kids had them at home, just like VCR's. I've pretty much seen every console/home computer system since the early 80's come and go and owned or played most of them. So let me introduce myself a little :
My big passions are genre films with a strong 60's/70's/80's horror/sci-fi genre focus , pretty much everything that's offbeat, obscure, extreme, cheesy or just solid classic but als lots of contemporary film. I'm a film nut just as much as a games nerd :rocker:
The same passion is for (obscure / retro) videogames. Growing up in The Netherlands meant that the mainstream exposure to videogames has always been much less than the US and definitely Japan, but I was lucky enough to work for one of this country's largest wholesellers/gray importers in my early teens (14-16) picking orders and packing boxes every day after school. The owner also bestowed upon me the task of reviewing Japanese import games in order to make potential sales forecasts, as the demand for import was rising... so I played a lot of really obscure Japanese games that seem forgotten these days but I have fond memories of (Magical Flying Hat Adventure or Earnest Evans anyone?). Making a meagre wage of something equiv. to $2,5 / hour at the time, I didn't care about the money... I got to play a LOT of very special games and the owner was "kind enough" to settle for some deals like "work all summervacation for a Japanese Mega CD" - which was the novelty at the time. This was right when the 16 bit wave was at it's height and pc adventure games were in the glory days. The dream system was a NEO GEO, but the games were just way to expensive (up to 800 guilders for some of the later 300 Meg titles which was equiv. to 10 snes games!) Most kids were still on NES, some on SNES or Genesis and/or C64 / Amiga, 386 PC or the odd one with an MSX 2. There was no internet and EGM or Nintendo Power were "holy grails" for info on games we would NEVER see in our stores. There was no scene in the part wehere I lived. Most kids were into the mainstream , if at all. Lots of games came to Europe much later than US or never at all, but with the aid of "converters" or sometimes a PCB mod (in the case of the Megadrive) we were able to play the imports. I remember getiing a US SNES because it played fullscreen instead of the PAL black bars but it had to be modded first...
This afterschool job enabled me to play NEO GEO AES, PC Engine, Mega CD/Wondermega, Turbo -GT, Japanese SNES, US-only SNES, even Jaguar and 3DO; games and systems that were very obscure around these shores and many a myth persevered about in the schoolyards at the time. It is of this period in my life that I have the fondest gaming memories. Of course, I went on and owned every console after that and bought many of the "old" ones which I could finally afford when I got a proper job many years later. I finally got a Japanese NEO GEO AES a few years back which made my retro dreams complete :)
But still, the SNES remains as my favourite game system ever. My fondest gaming memories stem from that system. I have been on gaming hiatus several times but lately been pretty much grasping back to the oldschool (to me : late 8-bit/16-bit) partially because the new games and systems kind of bore me but also due to the fact that some classic series are still alive through PSX, PS2, PSP and DS anthologies that keep the "flame burning" so to speak and have rekindled the old vibe.
Good to have discovered this forum! From lurking around it seems like you guys rule and I'll feel right at home here. And sorry for the longish intro and getting all nostalgic..... :)

Hello, my name is Tom and I work for a Museum in the UK collecting videogames! This includes hardware, software, magazines, marketing material and original design documents. Personally I grew up playing ZX Spectrum so have fond memories of Dizzy, Skool Daze, Chuckie Egg 2 etc...
Is there a Marketplace on this forum? I'm trying to find a certain item for an exhibition.
Thanks

Howdy,
This is Aaron, Age 18, from Texas in the United States. Lurked here awhile first found out about the place from one of AVGNs videos. I recently dug out my old NES (Action Set, Original Box and everything lol) and SNES (And Bought a Top Loader NES for $30 :p) to start collecting and just to play some good games as there aren't as many truly good games coming out nowadays.

Hello My Name is Kenny I Am 18 Years old Im originally From Maui, Hawaii But I Currently Live in San Jose, California
First things first since I usually get told "WOW how do you really know this much about classic gaming at this age"
From being a Child my first memory was playing Super Mario Bros. Now this was when i was like 2.
Even though at first i always fell in the first hole i started to get better and continued to play.
It helped me in life. I would say that was my first real big experience problem solving. Which also got me into Preschool Early as well
[I was Bright, Friendly and Talked ALOT I have adhd on top of it lol]
Now my family was always low on money my mom got me what she could but i still ended up playing alot of shit games [one of the reasons i like AVGN so much of course] But my mind just got more and more hungry for games so I started Trading which i fell in Love with in a Sense [Screw Renting lol]
Now fast foward to my 7th birthday I got a nintendo 64 from my dad. I still love the system But now looking back i feel kinda bad I didnt get a SNES next and get to experience that [friends had one] but now I have one too :D
So the next year on my 8th Birthday I started going out for work stuff like Lawn Mowing and a Paper Route.
The money i earned actually got me started on collecting games and thats when we first got Internet [I use it alot before hand at school]
So I built up a big collection by the time I was 12. But some one broke in one day and stole all the good stuff all I pretty much have left now from those days is my N64 [They Stole a atari 5200, genesis, original gameboy and my 3 NES systems]
So after reading for years and years about rare games and collecting I am ready to get back into it again.
So here I am. Nice to Meet you all and to be Associated with such a Awesome Collective of People

My name is Colin, and I've been gaming since the mid 80s when I got an Amstrad CPC 664. I did a lot of spectrum gaming back then as well, and I still play both amstrad and Speccy emulators fairly frequently. Favourite games from back then include Starquake, Sorcery+, Knightlore and 3d Starstrike. The first and second consoles largely passed me by - just the age I was I think, but I got back into PC gaming in 1998 with Tie Fighter and Freespace 2.
Now I'm an xbox gamer. Currently playing MW2 and Red Dead Redemption. Nice to be here.

Hey. I'm Stacey, I'm 18 years old and I'm from Wales. I found this forum when I googled horror games for the Sega Megadrive and I found a thread on this forum.
I have a lot of games I like so I won't list them all but I'll list the ones I play the most they are: Megaman, Pokémon, Resident Evil, Sonic the Hedgehog and the Mario series. I haven't started collecting games for systems yet, my lack of a job means I'm broke most of the time. xD
I'm a college student studying childcare even though I want to work in the video games industry. =\ Completing this course will make getting a job a little easier, I have plenty of time to go to university. xD
I got into video gaming when I was about 4 years old when my grandfather bought me a snes, I've been playing games since then.
So, that's me. =)

Hey Pete from Minnesota.
I've been gaming most of my life (34 years).
I started with a 2600 as a kid and moved up to a C64, then an NES, then a Genesis/Sega CD and a Game Gear....Girls.....Nintendo 64...then more girls...Then a Dreamcast...Marriage, Kids....Xbox....Then Xbox360.
I remember Buying a Sega CD the day it came out and I had saved my money all summer long, It seemed so awesome at the time.
Now, I'd like to revive those memories and am trying to get back all those games and sytems I sold at garage sale for next to nothing. Man, those prices have gone up!
Now I have back a NES, Genesis, Game Gear, SNES (never had one before), Xbox and Xbox 360. I'd love a Sega CD now, but I have to take on this collection slowly....So the Mrs. doesn't get too worried about finances.

Yes, it is true.
OK, not that self centered.
Just wanted to say I think this site is AWESOME. Recently began collecting games after my friend got me a copy of FF7 black label for PS1...Part of my collection now incloudes every FF, 1-13, including tactics, all black label.
My day job is working for as an Editor for an online news site in Chicago.
Something interesting: two of my uncles owned a video store and they would rent NES and, eventually, SNES games. My cousin and I were pretty spoiled with games as a result. However, I've played my share of crap that's covered on AVGN.
Yea, really into collecting RPGs for PS1, NES and SNES. Some PS2. And one more thing, I'm usually alone on this one, but I think Fire Emblem for Cube and Wii is the BEST STRATEGY RPG ever!

Hey guys, from Canada here, just recently starting collecting for SNES. I also game on the 360, PSP, PC, and GP2X Wiz. I've got a GBC, but just Pokemon Gold, and I barely use it. I've got around 25 360 games, 15 SNES games, and a few PSP games.
The Wiz is cool as it's got all the emulators I need and it's fairly small and portable. I also like how I can transfer my X-Com save from the PC to the build on the Wiz and play it on the go. Neat little unit.
Some of my favourite games are Fallout 3 (360), Skate 3 (360), Civ series (PC), X-Com (PC), NetHack (PC), FF3 (SNES), Seiken Densetsu 3 (SNES), Super Metroid/Prime series (SNES/GC), Super Mario World/Allstars (SNES), and Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past (SNES).
I plan to keep my SNES for as long as I can, and want to build a complete collection someday.. have already purchased some repro's as well.

New here. Been lurking since early 2008, seriously. Figured it was about time to try to contribute.
I'm into collecting consoles mostly (58 +/- according to my excel spreadsheet), but have aquired quite a few games as well.
I started with an Intellivision, back when they were new (remember going to Kmart to pick it out). Still have that unit and all the games I had growing up. I took a console hiatus and went to PC gaming, which was WAY expensive back in the double 3dfx days. Got out of the PC biz and back into consoles which is where I am now.

Hey, I'm Nathan from the D/FW area in Texas. Found the forums through a friend of mine who suggested I should check out the site when I was telling him about me and my girlfriend starting to collect older games and systems. My absolute favorite games are the original Metal Gear and Snake's Revenge for the NES. I don't know how many hours I suffered through those. I'm also partial to Adventures of Link, and am happy to claim that I did in fact beat it.
We (Amy and I) have mainly been working to get a collection of all the popular systems. So far, we have a Super Pong, a 2600, an Atari 800XL, NES, SNES, N64, Wii, original Game Boy, Genesis, Game Gear, Sega CD, Saturn, Dreamcast, PSX, PSOne, PS2, and a 360. Almost all of them are hooked up, and all of them work (the 800XL needs a new power brick). Right now we're missing a Gamecube, original Xbox (burned mine up in Qatar. American power supplies don't like 220V, apparently), and a Commodore 64. I think we'll call it quits after that, though I'd love to have a Lynx.
Our latest acquisition has been a mint Sharp Nintendo Television (minus remote/gamepads), which we consider extremely lucky to have found ($30 at a flea market in Kentucky!).
I'm really interested in building up a complete(ish) Sega CD library, since it seems to be one of the really overlooked systems and I'd hate to see some games go missing forever.
I'm currently attending UT Dallas and pursuing a degree in Arts and Technology, looking at 3D Animation/modelling and hoping to find a stepping stone into the gaming industry (yeah, right). Before this I was a combat photographer in the Army, and deployed to Iraq, Qatar, and Afghanistan.
That's me, in a nutshell. :)

Hi all :)
Many know me as guy with the world's largest Descent / Freesapce Collection, others know me as one of the x-3dfx people and some call me Gold leader as things go.
rottentreats a good mate of mine advised me this place to look for older games as being a Descent / Freespace collector who knows right and hey it's cool to meet other game collectors here as well.
I'd like to start a topic about my collection Guiness World Records also accepted my claim so who knows how things will take place from this point.
Hope to enjoy this place 8-)

My name is Don. I live in Chicago, I'm a file clerk and part time grant writer. I've been collecting games for well over a decade. For several years I didn't realize I was collecting, I was just getting games that I liked. Then one day I looked up and I had a pretty respectable collection going. I don't collect for any one specific system, I am actually more in the habit of collecting different consoles than carts. I just love to play them. I had been meaning to join a community of like-minded collectors for some time and just hadn't gotten around to it. Yesterday, I was making an inventory sheet of my systems and noticed I didn't know what variant my trusty old Intellivision was. After extensive research I discovered that I had been playing Frogger on a true gem. I actually have a World Book Tutor Vision. I will have pics up here ASAP. If you don't know what it is; http://www.tripoint.org/tutor/tutor.html. (http://www.tripoint.org/tutor/tutor.html).
I've been using it for years. I believe mine is only the second to be discovered in the world. I decided to come here, not to brag, (well, maybe to share my news with people who would also appreciate it) but to make its presence known to the collector community at large and see if anyone has any info about this rare console. The link I posted above seems to be the only bit of info anyone has on it.
I look forward to making some new friends here and hopefully enriching the collective knowledge about classic games in general.

I am a longtime lurker, have had an account for awhile but never used it. I am a collector (currently Sega CD FMV games, didn't say I collected the best of the best), been in gaming since I was about 5 or so when I played Maze Craze with my dad on the 2600 (he didn't realize what he was starting). I have recently returned to collecting Sega Genesis games (picked up Shining in the Darkness for cheap and was extremely happy).
I have interviewed some great people in magazines/gaming (Ralph Baer, Bill Kunkel, Michael Thomason and many more) and am proud to call them my friends. I have helped in changing magazine preservation for the better and continue to do so now.
I am a loudmouth so you will be seeing a lot of me, hopefully I won't wear out my welcome anytime soon. If anyone has anything they would like to know about me, just ask.

Hello everyone, My name is Max. I am a 27 male and I work for the Air Force. I live on the East coast of Virginia where I hate it, but I can't complain at the decent finds I have added to my collection here. My first experience with video games was an atari on which I played pitfall and asteroids to much delight.
My first video game I ever owned was Ms. Pac Man for Atari 2600 I got for christmas and I have been in love with video games since. I admit that I have only recently made collecting video games my hobby, but I am enjoying it so very much. I collect only games that I love already or want to try out. The only restriction I put on if a game can become part of my collection is if it is playable.
I really like this board so far and hope I can become a worthwhile part of it. See you around!

Hello fellows.
I Collect mainly carts for Genesis and NES, but I've also got a reasonable stash of SNES and PS2 games. That's about it though. At times I will not play a single game for months and then without warning I will suddenly become a mad fiend who spends superhuman amounts of time playing a certain game or two, literally to the point of falling asleep with the controller in my hands drooling into my lap.
My friends would say that I'm weird, and I sometimes have a giant beard, but I am not to be feared!
Anyhow- a late hello. I like reading all of you guy's little quarrels and juicy knowledge tidbits. I'll be around...:monkey:

I was always one of those kids who never traded/sold any of their games. When I got to college I decided to start collecting games again. Fast forward to about 2 years ago and I became interested in making my childhood dream of owning every NES and SNES game come true. I'm still pretty far away for both systems, but I've focused on RPGs and rare games first.
