From local craigslist--
"X Box w/ 1 game. great shape/ works great. Just need money." - wants $75. Xbox used is $60 at Gamestop and that 1 game is probably a cheapo sports title if he can't title it.
"wii sports in excellent condition" - asking $20 for the free game packed with the console.
"Nintendo Wii (w/ all cables and Wii Sports Game)
2 remotes
2 nunchuks
Mario Kart (w/ 2 driving wheels)
Mario Galaxy
Wii Fit
....manuals and packaging for everything $400. " - this guy's actually selling at a LOSS on this, Everything is pictured in the boxes, too
"Can't beat this price! System only, no games. (4) controlers. All of the wires for hookup.
Will take best offer, thanks " - pictured Genesis model 2. 3 of the controllers are 6-button, but the TV out is RF. Wants $30 which might be pushing it.
Not to say CL hasn't been helpful. I sold a bunch of toys recently and bought my gaming haul today thanks to a reply from a wanted ad I posted. I also got my DS Lite by trading off some Transformers to a guy who was really happy with what he got in the deal.
And for some fun, hop over to the "women seeking men" section of your CL personals ads and you'll find the BIGGEST selection of Nigerian Scammers ever. Ads riddled with misspellings, pics stolen off Google, posted URLs... I'm willing to say the rate is about 99.9% Nigerian Scammers.

You might be shocked to find this out, but Wii Sports routinely sells for $30~40 on Ebay/Amazon. Insanity, I know.
$145 for some guy's box of 2600/7800 crap. Described as a "GIANT" collection ... and $145 is drastically reduced from whatever the original amount was.

Perhaps ... I'm more curious at the amount from which it has been "drastically reduced." That must have been far less reasonable. Couldn't find the old ad, though.

I am selling two rare games for the GameBoy Advance system. They are Final Fight One and Street Fighter Alpha 3. I'm selling them for $50 each, or $80 for both(cash only). Neither have the original case or booklet.

"I have a greatest hits version of ff7 with a strategy guide, It's in great shape I will take $50 for it all. "
Even with the strategy guide, I wouldn't pay more than $20 for that game in the case. Maybe when people stop paying a fortune for common games that are easy to find, these prices will go down. If he wants that much, he needs to go on eBay, because NO ONE on CL wants to pay eBay prices.
"Playstation 1 with 3 controllers and many games.
Also have a racing wheel and carrying case.
Great condition "
Wants $175. Better be some damn pricey, sought-after titles for that much money, though. He dosn't list titles or even tell how many, so it's probably 30 copies of sports titles. Doesn't say if memory cards are included.

That's on Virtual Console now. A port just came out for the DS. If the price isn't going down for vintage, then people willing to pay that much need to really thing anout what they're getting for the money.
"Burgandy Ds Lite with games, case and car charger, wall charger and dock to charge. email for information" - wants $125, refuses to list games so it's probably Hanna Montana.
"Modded Xbox 360 Controller Rapid-fire trigger. 90.00
Or will modd yours controller for 40.00" - bleh, I'm not paying someone $40 to mod a controller if they can't even type that little without making errors.
This was posted as a public listing reply-
"YOU ARE CRAZY... people you can buy the parts to mod your own controller at Radio Shack for under $7, don't waste your money with this foolish offer!"
"This is the newest Pokemon Platinum Version DS game out today. My 6 yr old did not like it so it has only been played once for about 10 mins. It has all that comes new in the case and is in new condition. Please email with any questions or if interested. Thank you for looking. " - they want $35 for a USED game because their kid got sick of it after 10 minutes.
"1985 Transformers "Astrotrain".great condition... what you see in the picture is what you get. Cash and pickup only " - Price is $25 for a toy with no weapon, visible paint scratches and what looks like a body part missing.

While $100 is about twice what Ys I & II is worth, it makes no difference if something is on the vc or has a port somewhere. If you collect games, you care not for vc! People pay $1000+ for a cart that has a few levels of Tetris and SMB3 on it!!! This doesn't make sense from a gaming standpoint at all, yet there you have it.
As for Pokemon Platinum, I don't think that's actually a bad price. I bet Gamestop is charging $35 for a used one right now.

I was really wondering if Ys I & II was worth over $100 for the TurboDuo, the rarity guide here lists it at $25 while there are a couple on ebay for $100+ but with no bids so I wasn't sure. I really do think that's overpriced for a TurboDuo version.
Here is his response: The Meet the Beatles album is cover less but the the other 2 albums have covers and are in great condition. Plus all the items listed are mostly in the picture. I checked that description and he lists "Nintendo World Cup" being included, though he describes that game as being the valuable Nintendo World Championships. I think it's a scam, I looked at the carts in the picture and I couldn't see any with dip switches. It's probably just a crappy Nintendo World Cup cartridge as that's what's described as being included.

The price guide is tends to be a little optimistic when it comes to the prices of certain games. In many cases you'd have to luck out at a yard sale to get those kinds of deals.
Having said that, there's two versions of Ys I & II for the Turbo Duo. One is a pack in title, and it is only worth $50 or less. The recent auctions that are not BIN have gone for considerably less, actually. However, the retail version is the one that is pricey. Why? It includes a map. Well... it's pricey b/c it's the rarer version. It still isn't worth $100, but you'd have a tough time getting it for $50.

Its MINTY FRESH, peoples! I was just pestering this guy earlier for trying to offload Link to the Past for $90. MEntioned that it was selling for $20 on eBay and only more than that if its sealed. He pretty much told me: "not according to MY ebay.". Yeeeeah.

That's when you should try to sell him your extra Super Mario Worlds for $20 each, be polite while you offer them. :)
Here's one for today. Someone is selling an N64 system overpriced, and they listed their ad as a "wanted" ad. There's also bad spelling, plus they listed their home address as their location. Smart guy.

There was an ad for a yardsale nearby, like four blocks away, awhile ago, that said they had a whole bunch of NES games. Well, when I got there, they had over 40 NES games! Unfortunately, every single one was Super Mario Bros, Super mario Bros/Duck Hunt, or Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt/Track & Field (or whatever that game's called). Granted, they only wanted a quarter apiece, but how disappointing was that!

$150? Only 3 noteworthy games in there. Not worth $70.
Lost the link but another Cincy seller wants $50 for Final Fantasy VII "because it's $90 on eBay". But he admits his copy has a CRACK through disc 2, which would make it unplayable.
I'm also now convinced that I'm right in wanting to open up an "idiots of Craigslist" site. Too many replies I get to my sales ads are people who want attention, and I htink, if their names and email addresses are put on public display, they'll abandon CL and the bogus buy inquiries will stop. I'm trying to sell a Genesis with 6 games, a local person said they wanted to buy but won't actually agree to meet to purchase the thing. Poeple like this waste my time and get my hopes up.

ok, so this one isn't craigslist, but it's still hilarious.
I walked into this crappy game store that was charging insane prices ($30 DKC, $50FFIII, etc) and I asked if they carried any Complete games....of course, she just stares at me like "what does complete mean", so I explained to her that it meant games tht came with the manual and box. She immediately looks at me and says "no.no. we dont. That's collector's stuff, you'd have to go online for that. (never mind the store one block over had them)"
Me: "uhhh, okay...can I see this Resident Evil disc?"(Resident Evil in jewel case for $15, not terrible)
Crazy lady: "ok, here, we have 2 copies"
*She slaps both discs of Resident Evil 2 on the table*
Me: actually thats the 2nd one
*conversation, blah blah, she says she doesn't think she has it, i tell her she does*
Crazy lady: Here it is. We buff ALL of our games upon receiving them...because the playstation games are black, they leave traces of any buffing we do
*I pick up the disc, it was clearly gamedoctored, and VERY poorly...I explained to her in very sensitive and nice terms that it was NOT always like that for games that had been re-surfaced, and I casually asked her what kind of re-surfacer she had*
Crazy lady : ummmm...we...can't give out that kind of information.
I thought that was hilarious. She was just game doctoring all her cds and didn't want to tell me, hahaha.
How can people be so stupid? :(

Most decent game stores have the large machines. Only someone very cheap is still using one of those Game Doctor things. Those never worked right and should have been pulled from the market.
Myself, I put my Retro Duo, Ascii controller and 9 games on CL. stating I'd trade for a sega Saturn or sell for $75. 3 of the games are boxed imports, 2 of the NES games are boxed. Some asshat woman offered me $45 for everything. This is the same one who keeps "vanishing" whenever she asked to buy my spare Genesis. Needless to say, I'm not getting ripped off and I told her so in rather nasty terms.
$45 for that? Do people think I'm mentally handicapped?

9 games for $5 each is $45. I can see why she offered that amount, usually I end up buying game lots when the games average out to $5 each and the system would be included for free(as long as there's a game I actually want in the lot). I don't offer a lower price for ads, if it's too much I just leave it for someone else. You'd probably get more if you sold everything separately, it seems there's usually a top amount that most people are willing to spend at a single time(I find between $40-$60 is most common for bundles). Try selling the boxed games and imports separately(maybe ask for $10 each?), and bundle the rest with the system.
Of course, I've got replies from the same person several times and each time they just didn't follow through so I just stopped replying back to them. I don't bother dealing with lowballers either. I've had someone else offer me $50 for all my NES games, when someone else once offered to trade me a PS3 for them(I don't want a PS3 so I turned them down).

This for a Gamecube system-
"complete system extra controllers, gameboy attachment, memory card, 40 games, like new".
Wants $700! $700? EVERY GAME had better be copies of the multiple Zelda titles. I expect at least ten copies of Twilight Princess for that price. I doubt it's a typo. They didn't mean $70. Ithas 40 games, so they want $700. I know new games cost $50 apiece and no one likes being buttraped on money when they have to sell soemting but I get the impression a LOT of those games wil end up being the usual sports titles.
Didn't link as they have the phone # in the listing.
As for the "stupid people also ask to buy" category, I listed my DS with Acekard 2.1. Some jackass asked to buy just the Acekard. Fine, leave me with a DS that has no games. I swear, people refuse to read a listing...

(14) Mario Party 5 (15) Mario Party 7 (16) Mario Power Tennis (17) Mario Smash Football (18) Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (19) Metroid Prime (20) Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (21) Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (22) Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc (23) Resident Evil 0 (24) Resident Evil 1 (25) Resident Evil 2 (26) Resident Evil 3 (27) Resident Evil 4 (28) Simpsons Hit & Run (29) Soul Calibur 2 (30) Spartan: Total War (31) Star Fox: Assault (32) Super Mario Strikers (33) Super Mario Sunshine (34) Super Smash Bros.
