Here's a Sega "Genesis" & 7 Games. Please note that it's really a Dreamcast, and the name is plastered on the system itself and all of the games.

Here's the latest chapter in the local saga I've been chronicling of the guy trying to sell a Genny package for $800, or in exchange for a pair of 1998 Jeep Cherokee axles.
http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/clt/954711660.html.
Some highlights:
"The Games sell locally for $10 each and up! We checked!"
I can tell you from my own experience that the local store price for Genny games (i.e. - comparable to the list I received from this guy) do not exceed $10. But I suppose "We checked" could mean a lot of things. It could mean "We checked"...a local store, saw a loose copy of General Chaos behind glass for $10, and concluded that they've all got to be worth at least that much O_O. But since I'm fairly certain this guy isn't driving much since his Jeep's axles are shot, it could also mean "We checked..." local CL listings and saw everybody being as opportunistic, greedy and short-sighted as they are.
My favorite line, though, is this one: "But Do Not Degrade My Listing When You Have Not Seen It For Yourself!" This is ironic because in this latest iteration of the ad he has removed the pictures of what he's actually selling. Said pictures were of a large, yet ugly, pile of Genesis games, systems, etc. all sitting in one of those rainbow-colored basket bins made out of brittle plastic, and all with a fine sheen of dust :shameful:
Who needs pictures anyway? Now he expects people to go to his house to see his ginormous stack of dingy commons up close and in person, as well as to be strongarmed into shelling out $800 for a collection worth - at best - one-fourth that amount. No, thanks.
...and remember, kids, Capitalization Of Every Word In The Sentence Means People Will Take You Seriously.
He's been at it for two months now. And, like his asking price, the entertainment value here hasn't gone down in the slightest

Here's another one worth mentioning:
http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/tag/948803974.html
Imo, his price isn't really all that unreasonable, particularly since there's some neat stuff in there, like a Neo-Geo with 5 games and a TG Express. However, I think he's crazy for trying to move it all at once and with an adamant insistence that he won't break it up.
I wrote to him about this and said he should break it up into console lots, because the only people who would seriously buy something like this for $1500 people are the people - like me - who already own half of it or more, but have little interest in paying beaucoup dollars for duplicate systems. He wouldn't budge...
And for that matter...how does somebody wind up with a collection like this and we've never heard of him on DP :?

Same as above. I wish people would break up lots like this. I would be interested in the SNES and Virtual Boy stuff more then everything else. I know times are hard right now but asking so much up front is going to keep you sitting on what you have.

man if he thinks he can get 1500 for that i wonder what i can get for my considerably huger collection. but i can see the reluctance to break it up its easy to sit on the whole thing until it finally sells but it you break it up youll have little things here and there that no one wants you have to deal with payments and shipping all the time it can be a hassle. I think i'm gonna take an inventory of my collection and see what the whats it worth board thinks it would go for (just out of curiosity not actually going to sell it)

In this economy, people will not spend $1500 on video games. Collectors don't want everything since they, as collectors, already have so much of it and anyone looking to start collecting isn't going to start by dropping $1500 like that.
So who are these ads targeting exactly?

A collector with a small collection, or someone just getting into it.
Or maybe someone who thinks they can part it out and make a profit.

You know what would be really fun? Telling this guy that you have the axles for him and bringing him some really bad, crappy, and rusted out axles. When he protests inform him that you're merely want to trade him some crappy axles in bad shape for some crappy games in bad shape.

Picky about condition AND location, and still paying less than market prices (esp. for this time of year).
My son wants to buy a used Gameboy Advance SP console in very good condition. He wants one with a bright, scratch-free screen (the screens tend to dim if they have been well used for many years) and must have good charging life. Must come with the charger and everything must work properly on it. Also, must be an Advance SP model, not a regular Advance.
Since we're in Lakeville, please respond only if you're in the southern suburbs or southern half of the Twin Cites. Will pay up to $25 cash, depending on condition, and can come pick it up quickly.
Also, if you have the link cable to connect two Gameboys, that would be even better.
Please respond with your phone #, location, condition of your Gameboy, and what accessories it includes (i.e., a case, charger, etc.). Thanks!
I've never heard of this issue with the screens getting dimmer. Is that just mis-information because the newer models have different/brighter screens?

Depends what the games are, there's 41 games included. I usually consider purchasing deals where the average pricing is $5 a game, and includes the system for free(with 41 games it's over $200 worth). That ad is well below that amount, the seller is asking $130. It still depends on the games though, if they're mostly sports games it's not worth it. I pretty much will only buy a lot if there are games I personally want, I'd consider others only if it were really cheap.
I don't really see anything wrong with the asking price(for anything they're selling), it would be nice if the games were listed though.

This awesome classic console is in good working condition (no glitches or disc read issues), it comes with 1 original Sega brand analog controller and two (2) original Sega brand Visual Memory Units. I want cash but I would rather trade for a first generation Playstation 2 (big box version, NOT SLIM). The PS2 would have to come with at least one controller, no games would be needed. If you do not have a Playstation 2 to trade then I will take $70 (FIRM) for the entire lot (no offers or low ballers). I have listed the Dreamcast games below, please note that 27 of the 29 games I possess are burned to CD-R will play on the Dreamcast system I’m offering or any Dreamcast built before September 2000 (each game dics comes with a CD case and cover art).
GAMES NOT ON CD-R: (2)
NBA Hoopz
Sega Smash Pack Vol. 1
GAMES ON CD-R: (27)
Marvel vs. Capcom
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Trigger Heart Exelica (Japanese Import)
Guilty Gear X (Japanese Import)
MAME4ALL (Arcade Classics)
Sonic Adventure
Sonic Adventure 2
Ready2Rumble
Expendable
GigaWing
GigaWing 2
Eighteen Wheeler Pro Trucker
San Francisco RUSH 2049
K-GEN (Over 470 Sega Genesis Games)
Bust-A-Move 4
Cannon Spike
Dynamite Cop
Daytona USA 2001
Dead or Alive 2 (Dreamcast PAL Mod)
Soul Calibur
Street Fighter 3: Double Impact
Street Fighter 3: Third Strike
Power Stone
Power Stone 2
King of Fighters: Dream Match 1999
King of Fighters: Evolution
Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves
I would like to repeat for the sake of clarity that this Dreamcast Console is in good working condition (no glitches or disc read errors), this system comes with 1 original Sega brand controller and two (2) original Sega brand Dreamcast VMUs. Again, ONLY two (2) games or original discs, the other 27 are burned to CD-R, some that have responded to this ad have not read the ad in detail and were somehow surprised that the majority of the game discs were on CD-R. Please respond to this ad via email or contact me direct at 360-910-5677 if you are interested in purchasing this lot or would like to trade for a PS2.

I bought an Atari system and games from a woman who did just that. She had something like 30 games and she had the lot priced individually based on ebay store prices. Frostbite for $15 for example.
I told her if she wanted a better idea of what the real world going rate for this stuff was, she should search each game and use the "completed" items option. Then you can see that yes, some people will TRY to sell Frostbite for $15 but most copies actually sell for $3-$5, if that.
Horrible way for people to get pricing but that seems to be whats happening.

It's because 90% or people on Craigslist just look at the title.

This is true, so maybe try adding *NEEDS REPAIR* in title.

I have 2 copies of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas for Playstation 2, both of which are original edition copies that have the "Hot Coffee" code in them. My asking price is $75 each or best offer, considering that they are hard to find and you CAN NOT buy this version in the stores anymore whether it is new or used. Both copies are in great condition. Must be 18 years of age or older. I will ask for your age and possibly proof.

Another email on that same laptop... wtf is wrong with people?
Him: What is the make and model?
Me: It is in the ad.
Him: You know that, if you can't even tell me, then you have no desire to want to sell it. Goodluck, you lasy bastard!

You should answer him like this:
"Lazy is written with a "z", not an "s". Also, if you don't look at the add, which clearly specifies make and model, wouldn't that make you lazy (notice that it's written with a "z", not an "s")?
Hope you learned something today!"

Except that in this case, "add" should be ad. Glass house, meet stone.

I really loathe Craigslist, almost hate it, and the people selling things. They almost never reply. In fact, I have had people change their minds about selling me something, at the stated price. It's really a waste of energy and time.

It's really a test of patience, but I've sold and bought on Craigslist.

My favorites on craigslist:
1. Well it's worth x amount on ebay. Well sell on ebay you idiot. If it sells for that much go ahead try selling it on there.
2. If I post something to sell and I state that I don't want to drive unless I get gas money what makes you think I want to drive 50 miles for a $10 item?
3. This just happened to me, I answered an ad for a PS1 with FF7 for $30. The guy backed out because as the quote went " I didn't know it was popular, I will sell it to you for $50." Make up your mind for prices.
4. Selling big game lots for thousands or so. Okay maybe not thousands but who wants to buy a game collection for $1000 and not get a lot of stuff. Case in point: http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/tag/972790171.html or this one: http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/clt/968892426.html or the last one http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/tag/968975663.html
5. I try to send my emails with a phone number. I hate playing email tag 10 or 20 times for something. I did for 20 because the lady had nintendo games for cheap but she was either never home or didnt want to answer the phone.
Quick rant for now.

I hate it when people insist that I call them when responding to an ad of mine. I really dislike having to work out details over the phone, I really prefer email. I don't include a phone number in my ads for a reason. It's much easier for me to give directions in written form, or simply attach a map in the email than having to describe the location(especially when they're unfamiliar with compass directions).
I've had experiences over the phone where I arranged to meet at a specific time, only for the other person to get the times confused and not show up(I prefer having it written down). Plus if I say it's on the West side of the street, sometimes I'm asked "is that on the left or right side?". That would depend on the way they would be coming, I have no idea where they live so I wouldn't really know how they would be traveling to meet me.
I also don't like to wait by the phone in case somebody might try to phone me. I can check my email at my leisure and simply arrange to meet at a specific time a day or two in advance. Someone wanted to buy something from me as a gift, he said he would phone as soon as he would be leaving. I was going to go out for a bit but instead I waited at home for 3-4 hours expecting a call. I decided to phone him and ask when he's coming, and he said "I changed my mind and decided to get something else instead, sorry". That really wasted my time, I really avoid using the phone whenever possible. I still get people replying to my ads and listing their number, I just email them back anyway and I don't really care if they respond back or not.
Also, there's occasionally fake ads posted with a phone number listed, someone posts these so some person gets tons of phone calls in the middle of the night. I just don't want to phone someone in case it's not a good time(it seems a lot of ads are posted around midnight, even legitimate ones).
That's enough ranting for me, I still use craigslist as I occasionally find something good and I can still get rid of some of my extras. I just wade through the lowballers and jerks until I find a decent person(some people really reply rudely, I barely make an effort to deal with them). I've found plenty of great stuff through craigslist since I started using it.

Selling Emulators HA, that is just great...
I never actually checked Craigslist for this stuff before this thread. I had only ever used it to find a home for a cat. For an internet page it perfectly captures the feeling of a bad flea market.

Fixed. ;)
I've found an ad that's pretty entertaining, the beginning is more of an open rant. I actually feel both people are wrong, one for lowballing and the other for throwing away cases and manuals and claiming they have no apparent effect on the value. Classic entertainment. :hail:
