You really have to be patient with the classifieds, usually I only find something every few months or so. Other times I find a few things days or even hours apart, then months of nothing. The thing is, I'll keep checking as when something good turns up it's really good, either actually rare or cheaper than the thrift stores and in much better shape. I haven't sold that much lately, but in the past I have responded to ads asking to buy old games and it worked out pretty well a few times. Some of those are posted by collectors looking for games to keep and they're willing to pay a fair amount for them(not crazy amount but around the going rate). I can understand the "no ebay pricing" being asked as some sellers list common stuff for well above the usual going rate and that's what they ask for when replying to a want ad.

As for pricing things on the classifieds for the going ebay rate, it can be done but usually only if what you're selling is so rare that it hardly shows up on ebay ever. If someone wants it and they're local they'll buy it as they won't have to deal with shipping.

Yeah, those are common replies. When I bought some Genesis games I even asked if everything was still working and was told yes, only the battery save in Sonic 3 was dead when I got home. What's bad is people who don't bother to check what they have because they're lazy. Like they have a list of around 10 games and when I ask if they have the instructions I get a reply like, "I don't know, I only looked inside two of the cases and they had them, I'm not sure about the rest of them." Why not look and find out since there's only about 10 games?

As for tested and working, sometimes I can believe it as a collector could have tested everything out on their personal console, and everything that's for sale is just extra stuff thrown in. You can stop believing them when you check out the games and they're full of dirt by the connectors, there's no way they could play without a cleaning first.

Yes, the laziness really bothers me, especially when they're asking for a butt-load of money. If the seller really, in their heart of hearts, believes that Atari with 12 games is worth $60 then why can't you list the games? Why can't you take a picture? Drives me nuts when I read the "email me if you want a list of the games?" Think of the logic - the seller is too lazy to put the games in a list in their ad but they don't mind typing them out 6 or 7 times in emails to buyers? Just put the damn list in the ad (which usually eventually happens once these geniuses get 2 or 3 emails asking the same thing, they FINALLY figure it out)

If I'm selling some NES or Genny games on kijiji, I clean them all, test them all, and then I list them all, and I take nice clear pictures.

IMO, if you want to pull a box from your basement and slap a price on it and thats it, don't expect much. You really want good money, clean it, test it, take clear pictures and list EVERYTHING you're selling. Thats my 2 cents.

Oh yeah, talk about my main pet peeve. I just can't be bothered to hassle every seller who lists X amount of games but not what the games are. I think I'd be more jaded than I already am with the whole site.

Btw, here's an excellent ad:
http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/vgm/1450527193.html

Why can't they all be like that? Instead, if this was your typical CL ad, it'd be:

"FOR SALE ROBOTRON UPRIGHT ARCADE, WORKS, BRING A TRUCK"

Yes thats a great example of a proper ad. You can always tell the collectors and enthusiasts over the people who just are looking to sell junk in their basement so they can buy weed.

Thats another thing. 9 times out of 10 when I do make a CL purchase I have to go to parts of town where I should have armed escort, or at least an exorcist, with me.

Indeed. I found another good ad from a well-informed seller, perhaps a collector himself. He's selling at a low price because he needs it gone today.
http://miami.craigslist.org/brw/vgm/1450888957.html

I'd love to buy that. Here's how not to do an ad:
http://miami.craigslist.org/brw/vgm/1450775365.html

No matter how vague you are about the cart, we know it's an R4 that you bought for $20 or less and want to flip to us to fill your own pocket. I love how he uses a crappily scaled image in there with black and white circles.

Also:
"I use the best cards for this so they wont break your DS like some of the cheaper ones sold. I have over four years experience with these cartridges and play DS regularly."

Stop talking about flipping ROMs to us like it's a legitimate business.

I'm selling my old pride and joy, my favorite system of all time the sega dreamcast! It comes with a decent amount of controllers/memory cards and games. The games are all great games that ive searched for a long time to find again after I gave away my first dreamcast when I was younger. These games wont disappoint you! (All old school gamers will know this) I'm selling the whole package together, sorry I cannot single out any items in the list. Overall its worth over $100 but I'll take 100 o.b.o.!
Send me an email and we can discuss price, or if you wanna take a look at it before you buy it, everything works fine, and it even reads burned discs! (I can sell you burnt games for $5 a piece, but I'll need the name of the game in advance, and note that some games like gauntlet legends won't work.)

Dreamcast console
3 Controllers
3 memory cards
Record of lodoss war
Unreal Tournament
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

What could be better than a JCV X' Eye for the low low sum of $350 (http://baltimore.craigslist.org/vgm/1453777506.html)? How about if the same seller throws in a PS2, guitar hero game and memory card for an extra $300, for a grand total of $650? The only thing that could be worse is if he throws in a piano for a grand total of $800. Oh wait, he did that too.

Super Awesome PS3 - $8000 (UTC Area)

No, it's not gold plated, but the original owner of this PS3 was someone really famous. After the death of this really famous individual, their spirit decided to reside within this magical PS3 because he/she had some unfinished business (Had not finished GTA4).

This is a great price for such a unique console. Similar items have gone for over five times this price (> $40,000).

This bundle comes with the possessed PS3, an untainted Dualshock 3 controller, a gold plated HDMI cable, and the game that caused a spirit not to pass into the afterlife, GTA4.

Everything is in wonderful working order and still has part of a warranty left on Dell.com

P.S. The ghost only comes out when he/she knows everyone else is asleep. Most people will end up never seeing this specter.

P.P.S. Michael Jackson loved GTA4

Ever sicne Microsoft recently banned nearly one million Xbox live users who were cheating with modded 360's, these are the types of CL listings I have been seeing alot of lately: http://baltimore.craigslist.org/vgm/1461896836.html.

Why would I want to buy a banned 360 in the first place? You can't go on live for multiplayer or to download stuff. These idiots obviously think they are going to flip these consoles and then buy new ones to do the same thing. While that might work for the ones that lie, it definitely won't work for people who put it right in their title that their 360 is banned.

Moddified Playstation 1 - $50

Original Playstation able to play backup games. Comes with all the required cables and 2 huge stacks of backups.

Dreamcast Games - $30

Tokyo Xtreme Racer - $15

Take all three for $30

Prices are negotiable

Know why I listed these? They used to belong to me, I sold the Playstation stuff last week for $10 and I met with the seller again yesterday for the Dreamcast stuff for $5. The only difference was that I included 2 Playstation systems instead of 1, and I threw in a bunch of Dreamcast backups with the original Dreamcast games. I should mention most of the discs are scratched. I don't regret selling the stuff, I'm glad to be rid of it as I know it wouldn't sell too easily(plus I just got them in a bigger lot of stuff so I didn't plan to use them myself). I doubt he'd be able to sell them anytime soon for those prices. He has other stuff priced high too. It was actually nice to sell the stuff as I haven't sold much recently with the classifieds, I'm definitely happy with what I did.

wow that's fucked up........

...Which then set off the following LOL-worthy pissing contest:

Check out this (http://waco.craigslist.org/gms/1470093349.html) pants-crapping insane guy.

After numerous calls asking if they can see items before the sale - Sorry, I cannot accommodate this. ALSO - I will have a video recorder on during the sale for security purposes and I have asked local law enforcement to visit regularly. If you don't want to be on camera you should seek out another sale. If I don't sell the items that I don't need anymore, they will be donated to the Salvation Army and Disabled Veterans Organizations.

He's got a broken 42" Akai LCD HD TV for $75. If I had the extra money I'd buy it and put in the time to fix it. I find it rather... ahem... overprotective to have security cameras and the police at his sale. This guy isn't exactly in a bad part of town so there's no reason for all of the security. In fact, the Hewitt/Woodway area that he live in is in the top 100 best places to live in the U.S. if I remember correctly.

The idiot who advertised the wii for $400 justifies his reason for the high price tag after a lash of RE: ads.

"I have the first wii ever sold on launch date in the state of massachusetts!", claims the 34 year old craigslister.

This is practically in my neighborhood. Very cool and would be tons of fun, but out of my price range, not to mention storage capability. Who wouldn't want their own mid-size trebuchet?

Also $400 for a collectors item seems very reasonable to Mii,
Then your Mii is a greedy liar. :P

Complete BS. Bestbuy at my location had 20 in store and several other store I've visited had 5-10 copies. Amazon still have them for $399.99. So it isn't sold out.

$3500, and he can't even be bothered to list the games or movies, or even take a photo? Dragon's Lair and Eternal Champions are the RAREst Sega CD games he can come up with.
