So I emailed him and asked if I could have a list of the games. adn so he sent me a list and said that he changed his mind that the price is now $280 for everything. I replied with a simple GFY. I understand your anger, but if the games were still reasonably rare it could still be worth the $280. I mean just barely worth that price, but I still understand where you are coming from.

Now for some contributions:

Playstation 2 with 5 games - $160

Ihave a playstation 2 with 5 games with 2 controllors all games come with book case's works great 1 controllor is brand new

Unless those 5 games are all MVC2 and ICO, no dice.

I can never understand why anyone would want to buy a gaming chair. I mean besides Soulja Boy. I sort of also have to wonder if it is even worth that much.

I had a same experience. Some guy was about to sell me Virtual boy include with box and 3 games. One of the 3 games was Jack Bros which is rare. It was listed for $75 for all. When I was about to meet him, he changes his mind and decided not to sell it because Jack Bros was rare and such. He just made an excuse just go get out of the deal. Next day what he did was repost the ad selling Jack Bros game for $150 not including Virtual Boy. The guy thought someone will buy it because it is rare, but he got it all wrong. Now he can't even sell it for $90. I guess greed just get the best out of him.

I'd like to propose a new word be added to the language:

"Craigtropy" - The slowly unfolding realization that you are never going to get the insanely high initial asking price for the junk you're selling on Craigslist.

Craigtropy can be measured by watching how the same seller, over time, keeps reposting the same item with increasingly less detail, as well as the occasional lowered price. Bear in mind, however, that price breaks are rare, because Craigtropy isn't necessarily the same thing as "coming to your senses".

Witness, then, this initial ad for a modded original Xbox (http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/tag/1359551119.html), which was originally offered for"$260.oo" [sic]. It then was lowered to $200 with an optional dog-stained ottoman thrown in (http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/ele/1368194681.html) to sweeten the deal. And now the poor, desperate seller has upped the offer to $225 or a laptop (http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/vgm/1382570802.html), and taken the ottoman off the table, so to speak. But notice how the ads contain progressively less detail. See? That's Craigtropy in action.

Craigtropy. Use it. Propagate it. Pay me a nickel every time someone else says it.

haha, i like how in the second ad she refers to "mario" as a game system.

..i am selling it
for two hundred because it comes with all the diffrent systems lyk
(gameboy,playstation,xbox,nintendo,mario.and more..including watching
dvd's in application center) 3controlers.

that's a high quality shrink raping job, if i say so myself.

There are very few CL ads which actually make me laugh out loud as opposed to weeping silently for our increasingly moronic population, considering average CL grammar and spelling as barometers of our impending doom.

However, "shrink raping" was definitely worth a few laughs.

You know, as much fun as we have making sport of these people I don't think calling them up and harassing them is a decent thing to do, and especially not with women. It's one thing to send a single email or an anonymized CL response prodding someone gently for a couple more lolz, but phone or personal haranguing takes things a bit too far, I think.

For example, there's the local CL poster I've been following who's posted four or five ads trying to get sell a modded original Xbox for between $200 and $260 . She's just reposted today, her desperation growing to sell this thing, and now explains that it's because she needs to make a car payment, presumably by the end of the month.

Maybe it's :bullshit: but maybe not. What if it isn't? Not everybody on CL is some greedy-eyed junk flipper. A lot of these people probably don't have very much to begin with, and what they do have they probably don't realize depreciates as quickly as it does. And then when desperate circumstances arise they have to try and get what money they can with what little they have. So while they're clueless, they're not necessarily evil.

In the case of "Tineytinytanya" (what....is that supposed to be like "Tony! Toni! Tone!"?), give her some slack. The woman is just looking for a job. Don't use the information she posts about herself online simply to punish her for not knowing as much about the collector value of a 25-year-old video game system as you do.

Let's just make fun of them here, among ourselves, and leave them be.

Gameguy
09-28-2009, 06:41 PM
I wouldn't actually phone anyone for this stuff, I was mostly being sarcastic with that part(though emailing them further might be ok). I basically posted the link to her resume for everyone here to enjoy, it seems most people really don't realize the amount of personal information they make available online. Did you look at when it was posted? It was posted almost 2 years ago and it's full of mistakes, I'd assume she found a job since then(maybe not though as there's mistakes). There's really no reason for anyone to post their email address on craigslist, people can email sellers just by using the link near the top of the ad.

Here's some of the mistakes in the resume;

Shorted outgoing mail by zip codes and states

Inputed all mail into there database

Ordered supplies for all departments in the angency

Transferred incoming calls to there extentions promptly

I really found it ironic that she claimed to have excellent customer service skills, apparently she took a course in customer service. When Lostdwarf emailed her she lied to him about actually selling it at her asking price, basically called him stupid, and told him to get a life. Does that sound like excellent customer service skills? Anyone that would be dealing with customers would bound to get several angry ones and that doesn't mean you can respond like that back to them as you'd be representing your company/employer. Plus having secretarial skills usually means you need to spell correctly.

All this ads to the fun of this thread, it's not meant to have people go and harass/stalk this person. Just enjoy what we found out about this seller. I would like to know if Lostdwarf did any more emailing with this person though. LOL

After the final email I sent to her on the 25th read:

I myself as a collector would never pay that much, nor would any collector for that matter. When the SNES came out it retailed for $99.99 - $149.99. You can buy used ones on ebay from $20-$60 depending on the condition. So how you managed to get $300 out of someone is beyond disbelief. And if you did your a fraud and should be reported. Maybe you should do a little research before you start running your mouth and getting into things you know nothing about, you might just be better off in life that way. And I hate because it's people like you that take the fun out of collecting with your fraudulant behavior and scams. Have a great and wonderful weekend, I know I will!

I haven't gotten any emails since and haven't emailed her either. She lowered her prices so I obviously got a point across. I personally would never call someone and harass them. Email yes, phone no. that just crosses a line.

So I took some old games into the Digital Press used game store. It amazes me how little they give for trade-ins. I was being offered bwteen a nickel and a quarter for old Atari and Nintendo games. Games that they have the fucking guts to slap $10 or higher price tags on. Maybe they should just put a box by the door so we can dump the games in for free!

To top it off, they have a website where they run a price and rarity guide for games. I guess it's ony worth what their price guide states once they have it in their possession, though. Not that a price guide run by a store can be regarded as fairly honest.

Boycott them, don't sell them your games. Sell them on here instead, get more money and drive these ripoff outlets out of business entirely. If such a business regards their customers so poorly then perhaps they deserve to lose those customers.

Doesn't surprise me. The DP store is a business and like any business it needs to make a profit. Sure they'll make money on trades but they also have to pay to run the business and then of course sit on the inventory until it sells. Selling games to a game store offers cash on the spot, you won't get the maximum value, but it's an offer right there. People can't seem to understand that. Although it amazes me they can write that CL post but can't just list their freaking games.

I'd probably be just as offended to get offered a quarter for an NES game. At the same time, I'd have listed my games and put a price next to them. That's what CL is for, after all: giving the finger to high-priced stores that will pay you a penny for something they'll sell for $10. Doesn't matter if it's DP or Gamestop, that's how stores operate. I can certainly appreciate how expensive it is to run a business, but you'd expect at the least to get something fair for a trade in. Most stores won't even give you 1/3rd credit tho. Just sell your stuff on CL instead.

Anyways, not what I wanted to post about. I had some idiot in CALIFORNIA (I'm in Seattle, WA) send me an email asking about some games that I pretty explicitly wrote in the ad I would trade a Turbo Express and games FOR. I do not have those games, I'm willing to trade in order to obtain them. I thought my ad was pretty explicit and obvious. Even if you can't understand the wording of it, the fact that there's no pictures of this other, rare stuff or any offers or prices connected, should be a tip-off to anyone with half a brain.

So I tell him he needs to brush up on his reading comprehension. His next email to me was this:

"Thank you for your response and pleasant attitude. Sorry, I'm used to dealing with people who can actually place coherent ads with complete sentences and proper grammar. It seems the rumors are true -- Seattle is a shit ass city full of retarded faggots. I hope you get cancer, and I hope your children get raped. Well, this shall conclude our transaction, so please do not contact me again. Thanks!"

Much LULZ were had.

I found this amusing. Its for one of those NES wooden carts with a picture of Mario on it. Here's the description:

I am selling a Mario Game Table. It is made for the NES but it dosen't matter what you put on it. It is in good condition and I have tested it to make sure it works. Email me if you are interested or have any questions.
Thanks for viewing and check out my other ads.
P.S I am interested in trades such as Xbox 360 Games or Accessories.

How do you "test" a table to make sure it works :D

Here is a classic tale of persistence. I'm not going to put up all the ads because they may mess up the page, but I will post the titles:

This guy has been posting most of those ads for at least a year or more (without a price drop), so I feel the need to congratulate him. Congratulations random Craigslist user, you really show that even if you price your stuff around what they are worth, you still won't sell them. I sort of wonder why this person hasn't gone the Ebay route.

In case your wondering, the two sealed SNES games are sports games. Though the fact that the SNES is non colored does make it worth a little bit more than normal. Emphasis on little.

If you are interested in looking at the lots, they were posted on September 29th.

Hi, I have a Playstation 3 PSN account with the following games;

Spyro the Dragon
Marvel VS Capcom 2
Crash Bandicoot WARPED
Rag Doll Kung Foo
Castlevania Symphony of the Night
Twisted Metal 2
Megaman 9

The PS3 allows you to copy your downloaded playstation games via USB a maximum number of 5 times. I want to trade any one of my games for any one of yours. Let me know what you have please.

Thank you!

Yes, the PS3 does allow you to do that, but not the way he is thinking. Always funny to see someone not understand how something works and try to pass that knowledge on to someone else. Well almost, since it does get sad when the false knowledge spreads.

There's a picture in the add to. So I just called the guy asking what games are there in the box. First thing he says well don't you see them. These are collector's items. I mention that I am trying to collect a set and want to know what is there to see if I have it or not. I am really not trying to complete a set though I know like 3 people or so that are. He told me "well I want to sell them all," I know that but if I dont know what's there why would I buy it....

He's calling me back later. Though almost $2 a game isn't worth it unless there is something rare there.

I posted a "Wanted older video games" ad on craigslist recently and couldn't believe the the emails I got afterwards. Why people believe that copies of ultra common games 15+ years old are worth anywhere near what they paid new idk. Thus far the whole thing has been a bust, with people trying to unload games en masse that likely ebay or the local game store would'nt take. One guy wanted 100 dollars for a ten game lot of sports titles for the nes.. "I think ten bucks a game is fair".... sigh, Guess I'm riding the fail boat.

I was a finalist in the Nintendo World Championships in 1990.
Part of the prizes for all finalists was a copy of the actual game used in the championships with a timer switch built on the cartridge that you could change the time with.
I had no idea this rare game was in such demand. Then I realized that I am only one of 90 people in the world who own this game for being a finalist in the event. Again, only 90 exist worldwide.
I guess that's why this game just sold on eBay for over $5,000 in July. See link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270422656534&category=11988
I'll take $10,000 or best offer. Shipping is included. I know it's double what the game on eBay sold for, but I'm not in financial trouble and I have no problem holding onto it for years to come in anticipation of it being more valuable over time.
