View Full Version : Craigslist people, are they serious?!??

All of my family members kept saying "Try Craigslist!", so I figured why not and I would give it a whirl.
I found a very nice Atari set locally and sent a message to the seller. After two days, he replied and said "Sure, you can have it, when can you pick it up?"
I replied that 6PM the following day would be good, he said that was not good. I replied for the next day. No reply. Then he replied a week later and asked when I wanted to pick it up. Again, I replied 6PM the next day.
After that, no more replies. That was two months ago.
So much for that!

i cant believe this thread is still going on.
The reason because we have too much time on our hands to copy and paste the bad ads we find. Really I rather show people bad and unusual ads alot of the time.

As long as there are people stupid enough to post stupid ads, this thread will live. This thread will most likely be eternal.
I found a new ad for a Sega Genesis. I think it's a bit too expensive.
http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-video-games-consoles-SEGA-GENESIS-W0QQAdIdZ96871940
SEGA GENESIS WITH TWO CONTROLLERS AND SONIC THE HEDGE HOG AND ALTERED BEAST. LOOKS AND WORKS LIKE NEW. $250
EDIT: I'm now looking through that person's other ads, he has a PS2 for sale with several games for a cheaper price than the Genesis, and he's selling 3 cars including 2 Mercedes and 1 BMW. He must be a greedy guy if he's asking that much for a Genesis yet can afford several high end cars.

The original post said 75. OR OBO. I am sure you have sold on craigslist, if you have not people ALWAYS talk you down. SO yes I started at $75 in hopes I would at least get a 45-50 offer. No I am sorry but I do not see that as a scam at all.

That was priceless. Same as the guy I saw at a flea once who told me he wanted $150 for an Atari 5200 system, with no controllers or AC adapter. Told me he would go as low as $100 but no lower. Said if he didnt get atleast $100 he would definitely get $150 "Online."

Nope. It's simply a cheap plastic that was used by Nintendo when the cases were made. It oxidizes and turns yellow over time. Keeping it in a dark closet would still net you the same yellow system.
And i'm merging this in with the Craigslist thread.

I guess this confirms that it was just purchased cheap and they're trying to flip it for a profit. If it was their own personal system I could understand the higher asking price(not knowing how much it depreciates over time).
Also selling something without knowing what you have really gets to me, if someone told this person that it was a "special" version why not do some research to see if that's true. It's like a lot of people have no idea how to do any basic research at all.
I checked the ad and the price has been lowered to $50, still too much without the hookups.

You mean the fact that there are people who congregate online, who place the fun of collecting video games and systems over their profit potential, and who are knowledgeable enough about the history and fair market value of these systems to become derisively amused by someone else who, by all appearances, is none of these things?
I find it interesting that you felt a compulsion to join this board in an effort to defend your nebulous Cragislist profiteering efforts.
Either way, assuming you're still here, welcome to Digital Press. Or if you prefer, well, 2 comes Digital Press. Stick around. Maybe you'll learn to appreciate these old systems for something other than their quick turnaround value.

I've loved this Sega Saturn since the day i bought it back in the 90's, it now has a layer of dust on it thick enough to write your name on. Downloadable emulators have sent it into retirement but if there is some nostalgic sega fan out there who will cherish this console as i did they are free to come and get it. I only want to give it away if the recipient really wants it for its sentimental/nostalgic value. I will include all the hookups i have (RF adapter and AC adapter only) and all the games i have. I had more games than this and if i find them moving one day I'll let you know. I also have the 3D controllers, two of them.
Here's what i could find just now:
Sega Saturn (second gen. console with round buttons)
AC adapter
RF adapter
Memory Card that randomly stops working and loses data
Grid Runner-awesome multiplayer game
Virtua Cop-(i lost the gun, my son probably took it in the woods)
Fighting Vipers

I know the guy, bought stuff off me to resell. Even tried to rip me off, asked on the phone to get a bunch of games from me for $40(I agreed), handed me $35 in person hoping I wouldn't count it. He still emails me when he needs something, he tries to sell things to people that he doesn't have and then asks to buy it off me so he can sell it for a profit. I still sell him games, I just don't give him any discounts at all. He's offered to fix games and systems for me, but hasn't bothered to get back to me about it. The systems actually sell for what he's asking too.
It's not me in case people are wondering. ;)

I have the same situation with a lady. I fixed her Nintendo for her. Did the repair for $30 or so. We got to talking about what I do and how I do it. Well the next weekend she calls me up asking if I want to buy a SNES with a bunch of games for $60 bucks. I asked where she get it, from a garage sale of course for real cheap. I told her I don't buy that high then resale and also I like knowing what I am buying before I get it. Well she would always call asking if would buy her stuff first. I would always turn her down because she was trying to rip me off.

For now on tell her that you'll take it on two conditions. First, she has to lower the price. And second, she has to know what sucky sucky means. She probably won't though so you should be ok......I think.

Not everything that's out of the box is used, though if it's been tested it is. I once got an FM tuner for the Game Gear that was brand new, but the box was beat up so I thought it was a reseal. I opened it, only everything inside was still sealed in a separate bag. Eventually I decided to sell it so I described it as "New in Box" instead of factory sealed. I never tried it out or tested it so it was still new, I just cut the tape that was sealing the box and looked at the contents. I ended up selling it at a swap meet, the buyer examined it fully before purchasing.
Anyway, here's a Game Gear lot for $100.

I'm looking on Cragislist and I see an ad for a Super Nintendo with some games that look promising. However, the picture is small and a bit blurry, so I can't see the titles of some of the games. I decide to email the person and here's what takes place:
Me: "what games come with the system?"
Him: "Kirby, Donkey Kong, SUper Mario, Power Rangers, and more"
Me: "Do you have the exact titles?"
Him: "Yeah, ill already put it in the box for the customer who buys it. Do you want to buy it, they are fun games."
Me: "well i wanna know what all of the games are before i decide to buy it or not"
Him: "Im not going to open the box it took a long time. ill sell it to you for 30 dollars"
Me: "I dont like buying mystery boxes, that's why I asked."
Him: "Ok, ill open the system not the game. =) Its a Super Nintendo"
Me: "I know it's a super nintendo, i wanted to know what the games were."
Him: "Well, ill sell you the system, How much do you wanna buy the system for?"
Me: "Wait what?
I was interested in the whole package? Are you interested in selling the games and the system or not?"
Him: "Yeah, I have everything. The whole package. Im just wanting to know the range you will buy it for"
Me: "Do you have a link to the ad again? Also, what games come with the system? I do remember it was hard to see what games they were."

I think the exclamation points make those games sound rare and far more valuable.
Mario/Duck Hunt!!!!!!! - see, it sounds better.

People being dense...who doesn't love that? I had one guy I wanted Atari 2600 games, instead of listing through typing with extra numbers to show how many he had. He listed them in MP3 format. Gah took forever going through a ten minute list making sure I heard him right.

Here's a new one:
http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/tag/980324690.html
No price listed. Call and make an offer (hah...good luck with that). I bring this one for submission only because of the sheer number of typos in it, despite being accompanied by a picture showing all the titles on the labels.
Consider "turok evoulution" (what?), to say nothing of the random lack of capitalization. He spelled "Wrestlemania" and "Major League Baseball" correctly, so I'd like to say he's just a redneck, but interestingly he mangled "maddon" yet correctly spelled "Aeon Flux" :?, so he's harder to compartmentalize than I thought.
Call me an anal grammar Nazi if you want to. I'm certain I deserve it. But it just kills me when I see people take a freaking picture of the game(s), yet the mental effort expended in translating what is written correctly in the photograph to what is being typed just utterly kicks their butts. I understand the occasional typo, but if you can't even be cohesive enough in transcribing a photographed list, why should I even trust that you'll deal with me fairly on questions of fair price?

THE LINK LEADS TO FUCKING NO WHERE! I CAN'T ACCESS HIS ACCOUNT!
Fucking Christ this guy is dense.
You should have asked for his password, he probably would have given it to you. LOL
I posted an ad for NES games, I listed them as games for the "Original Nintendo". I guess it's because I didn't take a picture of everything(there's too many games to fit in a picture). I'm going to edit my ad to be more clear now, I'll describe them for the NES(some people don't search for NES games, they just search using "Nintendo").
Here's a reply I just got;
Hi there,
Are these games for Nintendo DS?

$50 is too much for the two games in the first link, even if Seismic - er, I mean M.U.S.H.A. - is the other one.
I still remember an ad for a Genesis lot that was posted a couple years ago, that included one game that was a "regular Sega game but should work with the Genesis." The seller didn't list any of the games in the lot, but there was a picture where they were all clearly visible. So, what was the "regular Sega" game? Rocky for the SMS (note that there was no Power Base converter included in the lot).

I had pretty much the same experience today, I'll be waiting to hear back tomorrow. There wasn't even a picture shown. He's probably being vague because the games are crap, I'll be finding out soon(if he gets back to me). Sometimes the games could be good which is why I reply to vague ads.
Me: What are the games, do they have the boxes and instructions too? Where about are you located? Thanks.
Him: 30 games...roo many to list...yes..all have boxes...most with instructions
located in Toronto's east end
Me: Are any sports games? If so, how many?
Him: several sports games among the 30
Me: I don't usually buy mystery lots, and it sounds like most or all of the games are sports since you're so vague with the titles. Please list what the games are or I won't consider it. Thanks.

There used to be a guy trying to sell 2 boxed Genesis games(no instructions), for $60 together(later reduced to $50). Sonic 1 and Taz-mania. I used to take screen captures of some ads, I still have it(it was a over a year ago). I have several more I can post, some way worse.

Southland Tales is a movie, a rather odd one too. You wouldn't think a movie with the Rock in it, would bomb, but it did.

I'm kind of surprised that the seller didn't price Final Fantasy II that high.
