I almost have to wonder if there are uninformed people actually buying these overpriced systems? I mean, think about it. If you're some yuppie that works full time and is fairly ignorant of online sites such as ebay, and you want an original Nintendo system, where are you going to look? Sure, you could check thrift stores, garage sales, and so on, but what if you don't want to deal with the legwork? You're aware of Craigslist, so maybe you'll go there?

In my area, original Nintendo systems actually don't show up all THAT often on Craig's List. Maybe once a week. If that particular system is priced high, and it's the only one you see, and you're ignorant of what old games sell for, paying $100 for an "antique original Nintendo" might actually seem like an okay deal.

So. Yeah. It's almost tempting to just post an ad and see if people are actually interested.

i bought game cube the day it came out wainted in line a midnight at bestbuy thought it was going to be great but the truth of the matter is i played it (1) time and it has been sitting since when it came out it was 399.99 just for the console and i got 4 games to go along with it 1. starfox adventures 2. starwars 3. turok and number 4. eighteen wheelers and i got the extra controler the g3 black in color which at the time was 60 bucks but with time means less price which sucks but in total with all purchased at the time it was almost 700 bucks so all im asking is half or best offer it is basicly brand new i litteraly used it the night i bought it and that was it i hate the controls so i don't want it to take up space anymore so the closest to 300 wins good luck and thanks

I put my Chrono Trigger on CL. Big Mistake. Within 10 seconds I had a guy offering $20 (I guess putting FIRM in big capital letters isn't enough). Here is the kicker - he asked ME to be fair. After all, it doesn't have the box, manual, map, or dust cover, which is half the value right there.

If you are knowledgeable enough to know it came with a map (I didn't know it did) then you know the real value of it. Don't bullshit a bullshitter.

Here's two Craiglist listings I remember that sort of made me wonder.

The first one was for a Goldstar 3DO for $80 with a couple of games. All games were in plastic sleeves and he mentions that the console can run burned games. This instantly made me wonder how many of the games are legit, but I still considered purchasing it. I later talked to a guy who frequents here and he told me it wasn't worth it. The console kept coming up including one time when it went up to $90! Not sure if it was sold.

The other listing was for a Dreamcast. The console came with a cd of tons of emus and roms and I think he wanted around $100 for it. In the auction he said he could have gotten a lot more on ebay, but wanted it gone fast. I believed the listing until he listed it again with nothing changed.

Then there is this current listing that made me laugh a bit because of how ridiculous the message is:

I have a basically Brand New 80gb PS3. This is the 1 that is backward Compatable with the Old Playstation Games and it also plays Blu-Ray and High Def DVD's as well as regular ones. I have played this about 5 times, and it was purchased in middle February from Best Buy. I still have the original box and all original accesseries as well as 2 controllers.

***THIS IS IN GREAT SHAPE NOTHING WRONG WITH IT, WELCOME TO TEST IT....I JUST NEVER PLAY IT SO I AM SELLING IT...YOUR WELCOME TO TEST IT OUT***

I am asking $340 OBO CASH ONLY...LOCAL PICKUP...or I will meet somewhere for $10 extra...

Again THIS IS CASH ONLY...LOCAL PEOPLE ONLY....NO I WONT MAIL IT TO AFRICA FOR PAYMENT ON PAYPAL....NO I WONT ACCEPT A MONEY ORDER IF I SHIP IT TO OREGON....DONT BOTHER SENDING THAT GARBAGE IM NOT A RETARD.

If you think my price is high, your welcome to go on amazon and ebay and buy it used off there for $350 with only 1 controller.

And if you want to send me an offer of $250 dont waste my time.

And if you want to trade me a bunch of junk, no thanks.

I will only accept a trade as a partial trade if its an Iphone, or a playstation 2, or ps2 or xbox 360 games

I haven't had much luck selling anything on craigslist lately even good stuff for under 20 dollars. It's like there's only sellers and no buyers anymore. It takes me like 2 weeks to sell something and sometimes it STILL doesn't sell. That's how bad it is out here. Last year I sold stuff within MINUTES of posting it. Now, it takes forever!

Of course the only emails I do get are from people saying "I want it, when can I pick it up", I provide a good time, and I never hear back from them. "Does it work with this?" or some other question, and nothing..........poof.......

I don't understand this nonsense. All these emails and leads that go sour. In all my time of doing craigslist I never did this to anybody.

I never bothered and wasted a sellers time, told them I wanted an item and then ignored them after a few emails.

CL makes me sick to my stomach because of these people......

CL makes me sick to my stomach because of these people......

Craigslist is really getting worse and worse, mostly b/c the economy sucks AND there's a lot more people migrating from Ebay to CL. I don't blame anyone for jumping the sinking Ebay Titanic, but most of these people seem to think that high BIN prices will work on CL. If you haven't been w/ CL for four or more years, spend some time getting to know the place before jumping in w/ crazy ads.

I've been stood up a lot more lately too. One woman actually called and said she was leaving her house and would meet me in 45 minutes, then never showed up! Another had me wait an hour when I got off work, and this person was SELLING something, not buying. WTF?!

Still, there are lots of deals to be had on CL. It's just not that great a place to buy anything anymore.

eBay can be considered dead for value buyers nowadays. Its a smelly scumhole of gratuitous price gouging when gives assholes around at thrift shops, flea markets and garage sales ridiculous ideas of what things are worth. Craigslist is a victim of this.

I actually think Ebay has been a pretty great place to pick up stuff cheap lately. Ignore the BINs, for the most part, and snipe all the people who still think putting games on Ebay for 99 cents is a good idea. Granted, those people are getting less and less frequent as more and more good games get snipped for next to nothing. There's just no one using Ebay anymore. It's also pretty painful for the hardcore collector, I'd imagine. Used to be you could get pretty much any game ever made. Now, since there just aren't many people buying on there, a lot of people have either found alternate places to sell their copy of NWC or CTCW and just don't even bother w/ Ebay, or they're keeping it. Prices are down across the board, just about, so most people not in need of instant cash are going to hang onto their super rarity until the prices go back up.

then you have people asking to mail stuff and deliver stuff 30 miles away, for a $10 item? screw that. The money would be gone already from gas.

I'm gonna have to start using ebay again i guess, or the newspaper. The newspaper is golden. Everything I advertised on the newspaper, sold, usually the same day, for my asking price. The person calls, get directions, comes over, pays me takes the item and leaves. No lowballers, nigerian scammers, flakes or any of that crap you get on craigslist.

I remember when craigslist was still an obscure classifieds website, back then, only the serious people and legit folks who priced stuff right would use it. Now that's it's mainstream, all the tire kickers are on it, and being "FREE" doesn't help either.

If you had to pay to post on craigslist, we wouldn't see so much of this overpriced crap.

Im saying that the chances of more people joining in on the overpricing is pretty high. People tend to be greedy when it comes to things like that. Value buyers will be paying more and more except when the buy from the really caring and respectful sellers who believe in giving the customer good service and not gouging their eyes out. The big problem is that people at thrift stores and everywhere else that want to make money look for the high prices and believe them inflicting this upon those interested buyers.

slowly the price gets edged up except for the honest sellers. If someone is selling something for 200 dollars, and its actually worth less than 100, what stopping another person from selling it at 110 or 120 or higher? It may look like a good deal to some and they could easily justify it in comparison to the high prices. Then some other people do it and some dont.

Another problem is it is very easy to get away with this with very rare and hard to find items.

It all comes down to what people are willing to pay. Two great examples: Ys Book I & II and Dragon Slayer, both for the Turbo CD. Over and over a few sellers keep putting up auctions for these two games w/ $100 BINs. They don't sell. Ever. The few times they've come up as regular auctions, they've gone for $30 or less. No one's biting at the high prices. Eventually, the seller either has to price according to the market or take their ball and go home. Same thing w/ the thrift stores. I've seen em try to get Ebay prices. It doesn't work. Eventually, the color tag goes on sale all the way down to 99 cents apiece. They don't keep merch for longer than a month at any of the chain thrift stores. If it doesn't sell it gets turned over or tossed in the trash.

These are most likely bot replies intended to harvest your email address for spamming. When I sell on CL, I always insist that responses include a local phone #, and won't reply to those that don't. Not a perfect solution, but it helps separate the real buyers from the bots & snots.

And I tend to not reply to ads that ask for a phone number outright, only b/c I've had bad experiences w/ the nutjobs that post ads on CL. When I DO reply to those ads, I don't give my phone number, but I tend to write enough coherent sentences to show I'm a person w/ questions. If the reply I get back is "gimme yr # I call u" then I just delete the email and forget about it.

I don't hold rigidly to the phone number rule; a response like yours that shows sincere interest would also warrant a reply. But just putting the request for a number in the ad has pretty much eliminated the time wasting 'is xxx still available?' messages, and I still sell almost everything I list.

$100 for an O2. You can't even give these things away, I don't know where this price is coming from.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/ele/1212512390.html
Someone's still selling a flashback 2 for $100. The stupid here is overwhelming.

Nintendo Wee. $450.

Weird stuff:

No price, but the "if I can get my husband out to the garage" line makes me think she carts him around in a wheelbarrow.

Cool stuff:

You don't see complete kits for old arcade boards very often. The price seems a little high to me, but I also don't really care for full kits.

seems like an awful bother to go through to get an email address

I ask for phone numbers too, but you gotta be careful, I got prank calls on my cell phone one day all night, i had to shut my phone off because it woke me up, and my number was brand new at the time, but i only posted it on CL to sell something

i did a reverse lookup on the phone numbers and sure enough they were all local

yeah, I really hate letting people have my phone number. I sold something to a guy on Craigslist and he proceeded to text me no less than 10 times that day to ensure that our meeting was still on, he sent me 15-20 emails as well.

Yeah, no thanks.

Yeah that's another thing, I make sure everyone knows text messages cost me money and that I won't be texting back & forth with them. I hate that nonsense. I'm not a tween girl. Keep your sexting to yourself, k thnx.

I have the problem with some people with my number. I bought a turbo grafx from a guy, he called a few days later asking if I wanted to buy the coleco he had. I was like nope. He called again asking if I could find Castlevania Symphony of the Night for under $20. Again I was like no I can't get that for that price. A few days later again he called asking whats a good price range for an NES with 10 games. I told him like $50 or so, then he asked would I want to buy it for that much. I told him I don't make my own prices like that. :pimp:

I replied to an ad on craigslist, but it was just a pain to deal with the seller so nothing became of it.

Here's the ad;
http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/yrk/ele/1214331033.html

Selling 200 + SNES Games - $1
Selling everything for 500$

less than 3$ each. Less than 15% are sports games. Leave a contact #

It sounds decent enough, but none of the games are listed so I asked the seller what the were.

Here's what was said;

Me: Do you have a list of all of the games? Are the labels in good shape? Do any of the games come with the original boxes and instructions? I'd prefer working out the details through email if possible, I'm not always available to use the phone. Please let me know, thanks.

Him: none come with boxes or instructions. labels are good shape

Me: So what are the games? Could I have a list of all the games please.

I haven't heard back since, and that was a few days ago. Should I be willing to buy $500 worth of games without knowing what I'll be getting? I really don't think so. I also recognize his email address and I happened to email him a few times before(every time I've contacted him nothing happened, even when he replied to one of my ads wanting to buy something). He's also a member here, anyone remember Cellplanman? He's the guy who bought a ton of games to open a store without knowing anything about games. I guess opening a store didn't work out which is why he's selling everything.

I've had sellers vanish on me alot of times as well. I don't know what's up with that. Seems kinda shady.

It's like, dude, I'm giving you all this cash for your stuff. Why are you ignoring my emails?

If you ever wanna burn some free time, go on craigslist and try to sell or buy something.

It can't be beat.

he's right. I see people asking 75 for an NES (one scum bag buys them for 10 and re-sellers for 60), SNES for 50-100, N64 for 70-100 with shit and nothing rare at all, 250 for a fucking gamecube all the time....a GAMECUBE!!! lol....seriously, gamestop sells them for $29.99 and nobody wants them, who's gonna pay $250?

My basic price for a Atari 2600 is $40 with like 20 games 2 joysticks. Once in a while I place one on ebay and usually they have a higher price but I prefer selling local.

If I want burned dreamcast games, I'll buy a spool of discs and do the whole process myself. You're not fooling anybody.

a couple weeks ago i saw an ad from a guy selling a few nes games...

he had battletoads and castlevania and wanted $25 each for them. he wanted $15 for astyanax and $10 for some sports game. all were cartridge only.

i thought that was pretty ridiculous. im guessing he priced them according to how much he liked them.

So, I posted an NES for $50 on cl, and have some interest:

would you accept $30?for the Nintento

I said something like no, the lowest I will go is $45.

DO YOU HAVE THE GUN? IF YES TO GO GET IT

I said I have a zapper, where would you want to meet

WELL I LIVE LA CHOLLA AND RIVER AND YOU WERE DO YOU LIVE? SO YOU ACEPT $45 THE LOWEST?

then he emails me this faster than i can reply to his last email:

DO YOU STILL HAVE THE NINTENTO NES?

he then emails me this faster than i can respond to the last two emails

DO YOU STIL HAVE THE NINTENTO NES? IF YOU DO PLEASE CALL ME THIS IS MY PHONE#xxxxxxxxxx

I'm not sure if I want to call him, but probably will because I want to make a sale.

I just had a guy call me. I bought some things from this guy before though this was an odd call. He has a Super Nintendo, Dreamcast, N64, and games for all. He's willing to sell to me for $10 because they are a dime a dozen....this seems odd to me. Any thoughts on dealing with this type of call?
