I don't usually link to Ebay auctions but this guy went from funny to infuriating, so I figured what the hell:

Here he lists a Mint in Box Circus Caper LIKE NEW! (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-Circus-Caper-NES-Video-Game-Cartridge-1990-MIB-/220955390757?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item3371f7b325#ht_500wt_864) See if you can spot the problem here.

Then he lists this BRAND NEW Disney's Adventures in the Magic Kingdom! He also only mentions the box and sleeve, so it's not even sure a thing if it is at least complete (with manual and other papers).

I dunno about the NES Gameboy Advance SP being worth $800 by itself, but the whole ad seemed a bit preposterous to me.

I do wonder what the deal with people paying $20 or more for a loose Pokemon Red is (without even a guarantee of a working battery). Isn't that among the most common original GB games?

At least with Pokemon Leaf Green, I can understand people would think that because GameStop had jacked up the price when they were selling GBA games (possible to people afraid of buying the abundant pirate copies online).

Some retro games don't need to be rare for them to be worth something... pokemon is still a popular franchise and pokemon red was the start of it, so as long as demand stays up the price will as well.

Seattle CL has been spammed to hell in the video game category by the same three or four asshats, and there's plenty of high-priced resellers, but I've also seen some decent deals. The big thing tho is that I don't see a lot of good "collection" sales anymore. People are either selling individually or they just have a really small lot of stuff (and usually it's Gamecube or N64, not NES or SNES like I used to see all the time). But man, finding a NES test station last week (didn't get it, couldn't afford it) pretty much cements the awesomeness of my area.

I kinda wonder why there isn't a thread for ebay stupid BINs (you know, above the normal)...
(I know Amazon price gouging is so common it's not even worth mentioning. Maybe that's why, we'd get too many repeat reports?)

$187 for a loose Famicom Athena. I think that would be a bit nuts even with the audio cassette. I understand it's a bit rarer than the NES version, and the sexy art probably helps :D, but even then, wasn't selling at $20.

I can remember when the original was worth up to $50 loose, along with Bust-A-Move SNES.
I guess Taito had eventually saturated the market with enough remakes/ports and sequels to drive the cost of both down?

That's what I thought for a second too, until I saw the part about an original NES system for $500. Then I thought it was just a joke, but the guy posted his phone number and sorta sounds like a moron, so maybe it's for real.

I can remember when the original was worth up to $50 loose, along with Bust-A-Move SNES.
I actually remember some weird period of time in the late 80s where Bubble Bobble was, allegedly, really hard to find. Or at least, that's what all the kids at the playground thought.

The original Bubble Bobble was never going for $50 loose, though. A Funcoland sheet from 93 has it at $20 (http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/5097/93aam7.jpg), and I imagine that's about as high as it ever got. I'd be real interested if anyone can find some old USENET auctions with a higher price.

People like that just piss me off. I try to give people a reasonable price for the stuff I want if it's too high, and normally try to back it up with evidence if they think I'm wrong. If it's beyond reason then it winds up here ;)

Coincidentally, about 6 months ago I picked up a nice score of Saturn stuff from a guy on Craigslist. The price was a bit higher than I wanted (~$120), but still a really good deal, and I didn't mind since he was courteous in emails and answered all my questions promptly. When I went to pick the stuff up we were talking and he told me about people who had emailed him and offered $25, or that they would come and pick it up for free to take it off his hands. He said he didn't even bother to respond to their emails even when they started to come up in price.

I just can't believe the audacity of some people who think that a ridiculous low ball isn't an insult.

I get replies like that all the time, I try to ignore them or just give a short reply back to say that my price is firm. Even on things where I would be willing to lower the price, I'll just say it's firm to avoid dealing with them. I notice that it's often the same people giving low offers or just never following through with anything so I try to keep track of certain email addresses and just avoid replying to them all together. Usually the stuff I get lowball offers on is the stuff that sells well, I just avoid the lowballers as I know someone else will want it for a fair amount.

A guy (obviously a reseller) posted that he was looking for Nintendo games and systems. I told him I had an N64 with all cords, one controller, and expansion pack. I figure, if he offers me $30 I'll take it. He offered $12. I tell him that is too low and he says "Believe it or not, the system itself is not all that valuable, though sometimes certain games can be. Throw a list my way, and I’ll give you my very best offer." I told him the N64 had an expansion pack which by itself should be $15 or so. Never heard back from him.

N64 systems sell extremely well where I am. A system with 1 or 2 controllers without an expansion pack can sell for $30 within a week, or with an expansion pack for $40 within the same time span. Most stuff I list can take weeks or months to sell, N64 systems go within a week just about every time. The last $30 system I had listed sold within the same day of posting. I wish I could find these systems more often just because they still sell so easily.

Ahhhh, Denver Craigslist. Same old shit that has been up since before Christmas, same ridiculous prices.

hello, i posted all of these consoles individually and figured i would throw a bundle up as well.
unfortunately i cannot hold on to these any longer, need the space and the $$ sadly.

in any case, systems are as follows:

Atari 5200 + Trak-Ball + 4 Games ****ALL MINT***
SEGA Genesis MINT IN BOX w/ 7 Games
SEGA GENESIS w/ box and 9 games!!!
NES Console in BOX w/ games
Nintendo Entertainment System w/ NINTENDO Organizer in BOX
Super Nintendo w/ BOX + 12 Games SNES
Nintendo 64 w/ box and games --- indigo blue
Nintendo 64 ORIGINAL BOX AND GAMES

those are the exact TITLES of the other ads. copy/paste into search box to get more details on each console. and thank you very much for looking!!!!

please call for more information, i will not respond to EMAILS...
call/text only 720 --- ---- thanks -J

So after looking at the individual listings, I realized this guy wasn't serious about needing the money badly or wanting to sale.

I TAKE CARE OF ALL OF MY SH**.... this is in prestine condition for being 30 years old.

NO EMAILS... i will not answer... please call.text only. 720 206 7 0 two 5

thank you for looking -J

atari 5200 system w/ box and all paperwork
atari 5200 trak-ball controller w/ box and all paperwork

4 games all come with cases and manuals :)

missle command
super breakout
centipede
q*bert

these are going for 400-500 on ebay in this condition... its 30 years and and i have not seen a better set.
i just dont want to deal with the hassle of selling online and waiting a month to get my money

AND

Hey... just cleaning out some of my old game stuff that has been sitting around for years.

sega genesis console w/ original box and paperwork in MINT, close to brand new condition
this has been sitting around for years. i also have 8 other systems that i am selling all of which are in perfect condition.

need the space and unfortunately need the $$, so it is what it is. asking $200 but will entertain reasonable offers, on ebay these can get quite expensive in this condition, but dont want to wait 1 month for my money.

in any case, system comes with the following 7 games, all of which have cases and most booklets inside.

mortal kombat 2
mortal kombat 3
shinobi III
devilish
bulls vs blazers
sonic the hedgehog 2
power rangers

as stated before, all of this stuff is in prestine shape and obviously works.
please look for my other listings of mint in box atari, SNES, NES, N64

NO EMAILS... please call, or better yet TEXT, my phone is always on me.

I don't even bother with craigslist anymore for video games. It doesn't matter what people post, it just magically becomes friggan gold on there. Once and a while there will be a good deal, but its mostly someone who found out there is a game collector community out there and automatically assumes all games are worth money and they can charge a crapload for them.

craigslist is the great unwashed in action. No question about that.

Still, I use craigslist quite a bit, to both buy and sell stuff, but yeah, it can be a bit of a hassle. You have to navigate around the weirdos, ebay profiteers, flea market stockers, criminals, and the people that don't have the slightest clue what anything is worth. Still, if you need something, and you don't feel like waiting a long time for it to be shipped, then Craigslist can be your friend. Once you get used to all the bullcrap, you get a feel for it, and it doesn't really bother you anymore.

I'm currently parting my project car, and was having a hard time moving things on internet forums, even with worldwide shipping. I posted on Craigslist, two weeks later, the majority of stuff is gone and mainly all I have left is the shell and doors. I was pretty surprised.

craigslist in the last year or so has REALLY gone downhill. now its full of idiots like "CASH FOR YOUR GAMES" Or people spamming the hell out of the games section, like listing 1 game per ad and listing 15 ads in a row... ugh, i so miss craigslist from 2-3 years ago was so much better. Now its nearly impossible to find any kind of deal worth driving anywhere for.. :( and ya prices.. people are straight idiots, mostly asking ebay prices or higher and expecting you to drive to buy lol. ugh ugh ugh. guess i will have to stick to ebay and forums..

ps - i just got done marking as spam like 100 game ads in the sf bay area only from the past couple days, thats how bad its getting

I've taken to sending CL a message thru the report spam link (it's a little hard to find but here it is: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/cgi-bin/emailForm.cgi ) and just copying one URL for an person that is spamming and saying "they have a ton of listings and are spamming the place up" and just doing that for each of the individual spammers.

And yeah, CL was much better a few years ago.

FACTORY SEALED TEAL GAMEBOY COLOUR
Price: $750.00

I am selling my brand new, unopened, factory sealed gameboy colour. the price was determined by bidders on ebay, therefore i have taken the average price and set it as my final price.

No idea where he's looking, I see one sealed Atomic Purple that sold for under $300 but nothing close to $750.

Went to a garage sale I saw on Craig's List and when I got there, I saw an NES with about 8 games (Golf, Mario, Duck Hunt, the usual suspects). Most things in the garage sale were 50% off (whatever that really means). I asked how much the NES was and she said "One hundred thirty dollars. Yeah I didn't want to go half off on that one." I almost choked on my toungue. Even had she gone 50% off, it would have been no where near what the well-used system was really worth. It was all I could do to not laugh at her proposed figure.
