Here's something a bit odd that happened to me on Craigslist. I went through my game collection and took out the broken consoles I have. Owning a fairly small collection compared to most people on this site, it didn't take long and I only have 4 non-working consoles. I figured I'd post them on Craigslist for a few bucks to see if anyone wanted to take them off my hands.

A couple of days passed with no e-mails, so I figured that I'd post it for free as I was just going to throw them out. Wouldn't you know, got about a dozen e-mails of people wondering if the item was still available. Funny people weren't willing to pay under $5 for something, but jump when its free. Plus I took off all the working accessories.

Ah well, just glad to have the extra space for more games!

I have had this experience with several things in the past. There's just something about 'free'! That, and plenty of people probably only browse the 'free' section.

I once had a broke safe that I put on Craigslist for free. I put the title literally as "Stupid Broken Sentry Safe" I got around 8 requests within the first few hours. People will take anything if it is free.

That is strange. The only thing I can figure is that he's implying your are 'on crack' for expecting him to list things, or possibly that he thinks you are too poor for what he's got. Either is a big stretch, though.

And I agree about how people expect you to buy a mystery lot. Constantly I see ads for XX system w/ 15 games for 100 bucks; no list. Well that doesn't do any good. Weirder are the ones that say 'email for list'. Huh? you'd rather send a bunch of emails with the list in them than just put them in the ad once? maroons.

Worst part is, you're right.
I ran an EB for 6+ years, and I had heard it all.
I understand parents not wanting violence/swearing/nudity, but I never realized before that how many people were concerned about other stuff. Common things I heard were:
-No magic
-No references to other cultures' religions/mythologies
-No romance plots

...needless to say...very hard to satisfy these folks.

but as far as that guy selling the info? Anyone with internet can find that stuff.

I don't get all these "parent's guide to gaming" sites. You want a guide to whether or not a game would be good for your kid? Read the bold logo on the box, look at the signs they have at stores about ratings, or ask someone at the store.

You don't need a site that doesn't even bother to fully review all the games they judge and you certainly do not need to pay someone a $1 a game to tell you.

I got a few more emails from this guy, he explained what happened with the mealplan thing pretty well. Apparently he managed to sell it all to someone else. I'll post the emails though. He says he owned a store, I'm a bit surprised that he wouldn't have an inventory of the games he had in stock, how hard would it be to keep it on a computer?

Him: Mealplan... stupid iphone autocorrect. I did not mean to say "mealplan" haha.

Ok, here's the situation. I closed down a video store in 2004. It had been running since 1991. The games are mostly ex-rentals from the store, no attempt was ever made to sell them, and we generally just bought popular titles that would rent well. The new games are those that were for sale in the store, again we always tried to buy games that would sell obviously.

All this stuff has been sitting in storage since September 2004, I'm trying to get rid of it. I can't possibly generate a title list, but the games are all good renting games that were popular. That's as much as I know about the product.

So, if you're interested based on the above, pls provide an offer.

Me: With what I know so far, maybe $500? I'm mainly interested in NES/SNES/Genesis and Sega CD games and I'd want to get games for myself. There would probably be lots that I wouldn't need and I'd want to sell those off quickly so they won't take up too much space, and with most being ex rentals I'll assume that they're somewhat beaten up with stickers on them. I wouldn't want to be stuck with extras for too long so I'd have to sell them for cheap. Plus it depends on what the new/sealed games are, if those are good games too or if just the rentals are the good games.

Even if you could take a few high resolution photos of everything so I could read the titles myself it would be helpful, if there's plenty of titles that I'd want for myself I'd probably be willing to pay a bit more(maybe double if most of the games are really good, the condition would matter too though). If there's none that I'd want I'll pass, I'm really not looking to get games to profit on I just want to find games for myself to keep. There probably would be a few I'd keep since there's so many, I just hope that there would be a lot of them compared to how many games total there are.

Him: sorry, sold today - thanks for your interest!

Anyway, there's a new ad that's pretty bad. I don't think it's a joke either.

That price is way too much IMO, I don't think I could pocket that much per a system on eBay or anywhere online, maybe close to and mostly on BINs ($30ish) if it also had SMB/DH & a Zapper per a system.

Oh yeah, I had one idiot who kept posting video game ads saying "I want this to go to someone who has children" or some shit like that. Then he posted an ad w/ games like GTA and stuff, but I didn't realize it was him. So I got in contact w/ him, called him up to set up a meeting and he's like "how many kids do you have?" I'm like none of your business, pervert! So he gets all pissed off and starts calling and harassing me over and over. I finally reported him to Craigslist. They take harassment very seriously. Not sure what they said or did, but he stopped.

To play Devil's Advocate I personally get just as disgusted by the ads from buyers looking to pay a buck each for old video games as I am from the sellers trying to sell Super Mario Bros for $30. Yeah, I know that many old games are only worth a buck a piece but lets be honest, people aren't placing ads to find and buy them.

I'm pretty sure this topic is for both kinds of ads (and more). I always laugh when I see someone asking for tons of rare games b/c I know 9 times out of 10, they're only willing to pay pennies for them. Even saw one where the guy goes into a sob story about how poor he is and just wants some good games to play, while asking to buy stuff like Panzer Dragoon Saga for $5! Heh, no PDS for you, but here's something at least...

Whether he's offering Brawl and Galaxy for those 3 games or wants them for those 3 games, he's still a moron, IMO. Who wants to give up 2 great titles for fishing games? And who the heck would give up those 2 games for fishing games?

I called a guy for some Nintendo 64 games. Mario Kart and Super Smash for $2 each...Longshot but I thought I would try. He called back not having the games but he did have Game Boy SP for sale. Then the next few hours he's calling me wanting me to buy it for $30. Every few hours do you want it? Are you sure? Your the next person in line to buy it if you want it. I hate stupid people sometimes.

I really hate calling people just to get more information on the item. Usually I leave calling for a last resort unless of course they only post their number for contact.

Another gripe I've been experiencing on Craigslist is when I send an e-mail and don't hear back. Even if an item is sold, it is still polite to send an e-mail back saying so. When I posted my last few listings I actually responded to everyone. Even the one guy who posted me after I wrote that the listing was sold I contacted back. Though I do got to admit I sometimes don't respond after I become uninterested in a sale...

I gave up trying to chase people down who are selling stuff. By the time I get any kind of response back if it all, I will either

1. have already spent my money elsewhere

2. not be interested anymore

3. be so pissed off and just tell you to go fuck off and stop emailing

But don't worry about it. They are only fucking themselves over by ignoring potiental buyers.

I know when I get responses, I email all of them back, and sell my item within 2-3 days usually, if I post it at the right time.

These games are in fantastic condition! The Hey You Pikachu game and Yoshi's Story games are sold seperately for $20, and $10 respectively. However, if you buy them both, I'll knock $5 off! So you can pick them both up for just $25!

Ok so after typing that last one I found this: http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/vgm/1281929402.html

I know I know, they say they couldn't get rid of the "Nintendo NES" pix to upload one of the PS. It's still not a Nintendo NES, and seeing that pic combined w/ the title AND the PS controller. Oh lord. On top of that he says he has a Guitar Hero controller and game to go with the, yes that's right, PS1. I'd love to see that shit.

Here's someone who thinks a PSP 1000 and a bunch of cheap games/movies is worth $300: http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/vgm/1282257794.html

i finally had enough and posted something here is what i wrote

----------
-TO THE IDIOT IN KEARNY WITH NINTENDO AND SEGA SYSTEMS FOR SALE

WHAT KIND OF CRACK ARE YOU SMOKING? YOUR PRICES FOR THESE SYSTEMS ARE WAY OUT OF THIS WORLD.

ORIGINAL NON WORKING NES $50 !!! $75 WITH GAMES!!! ONCE AGAIN NON WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
GENESIS $100 WASN'T EVEN WORTH THAT WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT AND THAT WAS BRAND NEW WITH A GAME INCLUDED!
YELLOW SUPER NINTENDO $75

NO ONE WANTS YOUR CRAP, AND NO ONE WILL EVER PAY THOSE PRICES. ESPECIALLY FOR A SYSTEM THAT DOESNT EVEN WORK.

IN REALITY HERE'S WHAT YOUR SYSTEMS ARE WORTH

NON WORKING NES $10 GAMES $2-$5 EACH AT MOST AND EVEN THAT IS BEING GENEROUS
GENESIS (IF IT IS COMPLETE AND WORKING) MAYBE $20
YELLOW SUPER NINTENDO $30 IF IT WORKS AND IS COMPLETE WITH 2 CONTROLLERS.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND RESEARCH FIRST SO YOU DON'T COME ON HERE LOOKING LIKE A COMPLETE SCUMBAG AND AN IDIOT.

ALSO THE ORIGINAL NES IS NOT A COLLECTIBLE, THERE ARE PLENTY OF THEM OUT THERE. JUST CAUSE THERE'S A NEW SYSTEM OUT DOESNT MAKE YOUR OLD SYSTEM THE GOD OF ALL SYSTEMS AND SCARCE. HATE TO BREAK IT TO YOU BUT SOMEONE HAD TO.

Part of the problem is that a lot of the really lousy Ebay sellers are now selling on Craigslist. However, there are plenty of sane people on CL as well and lots of great deals to be had.

So me and some of my asshole friends were coming back from McDonalds and after driving and eating fistfuls of bigmacs and singing "the final countdown" for maybe the 6th time, one of my amigos got sick and had to take a wicked dump/throw up about 10 big macs.We stopped at the jennings park and while we were lolling at his bitchness we saw some old guy.Turns out he was a jedi and long story short,we pushed him down and stole his lightsabers after playing tackle football with a football we found from some kid.We drove off into the night laughing our asses off and after a long night of cutting random shit in half,we wanna sell them because we accidentaly cut down my neighbors prized magikarp statue or whatever. It looks like a magikarp.I wanna pay him back cux he was gonna hook me up with his old NES gun thingy cuz i wanna play duck hunt again.

These things will cut through anything like warm butter and makes your nutsack tingle after a while. The handle gets hot and it takes space crystals or AA batteries.
