View Full Version : Craigslist people, are they serious?!??

While I think it's completely pointless to complain about something that is out your control. Craigslist is a shell of what it once was, much of it has to do with the historic rise in reselling this hobby has encountered. Another thing to factor in is smart phones. With the ability to allow your phone to alert you whenever a "keyword" is posted to craigslist such as "nintendo" has not helped the world of collecting. Smart phones have mainly enabled the world of re-sellers to further there exploits and continue to make life hard for true collectors out there. As little as 4 years ago I could remember large boxed nes game lot's sitting on craigslist for hours untouched. You're lucky to see them up for 15 mins without the seller telling you there sold. And I've never seen so many sellers back out of deals because "someone else" offered them more money then the price they listed. Craigslist was great while it lasted but if you're looking to get a deal in today's economy your last area of hope would be thrift stores and garage sales.

Ive only gotten 1 deal on craigslist. Some people on craigslist think adding games and extra accessories increases the price or lot of what your trying to sell

On the bright side, if you're looking to unload a bunch of common games you know wouldn't sell otherwise, it's much easier to pop them up there as a lot and let some asshole reseller buy 'em and then have 'em on their hands for years to come. Yeah, you enjoy that box full of LJN goodness pal. You're gonna go to your grave with those copies of Dr. Chaos that you think are worth $15.

I've had few problems offloading some of the common items to the regular resellers at J&J or the Anderson Jockey Lot (dunno if you've ever been to it). Several of them frequent the Athens and Upstate SC CL pages. Reminds me that I need to put some stuff up soon.

I'm sure somewhere in this thread somebody has mentioned it, but i'm gonna throw it out there. Here are my craigslist tips:
1. Use a site like www.allofcraigs.com to search states instead of cities. I have found a lot of good game deals this way.
2. I've had good luck searching for "computer games" or "video games." People who don't know what they have call them computer games.
3. Remember the cost of gas when traveling to pick the stuff up.

I came across a store in Medford MA (can't think of the name offhand but it's in the Meadow Glen Mall) a while back that was selling boxed copies of Ninja Gaiden 1 and Super C, for the low, low prices of $100 and $120, respectively. I haven't been back since.
Also recently came across a CL post that mentioned Panic Restaurant (cart only) but no price. We text back & forth a bit, then I ask "how much for panic restaurant"? His response?
$300. Will only trade for a copy of Little Samson.

Pick up only. Will only be selling these today for this price. In 2 days this ad will be removed. Located in whitby. I am not going to list any of the games. Try to see them in the picture. They all good games. of course a few sports games. For what these are worth a good deal. Serious buyer only. Message with your name, phone number and pick up time will receive a reply. if any of these are missing I will not respond. Thanks and enjoy these great games.
How to sell a bulk lot. Charge more than $5 per game in bulk, refuse to list the game titles, avoid taking pictures to properly see all the titles, and be picky on how people should reply to you. These are the keys to success.

I can tell what most of the SNES games are. Zombies Ate My Neighbors is probably the most valuable in the lot.
Just for fun I'll try to name them all: Final Fight, Rocketeer, Illusion of Gaia x2 (one fake, one real), Super Return of the Jedi, Super Battleship, the first Madden, Tetris 2, Desert Strike, SFII Turbo, NHL 94, NHL 95, FF Mystic Quest, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Super Star Wars, Mario Paint, Jurassic Park, Super Mario World, Tommy Moe(?) Winter Extreme, Metal Combat, StarFox, Double Dragon V, Super Double Dragon, X-Men whatever (Capcom), Animaniacs, Jungle Book, Saturday Night SlamMasters, the Lilihammer '94 Winter Olympics game, Claymates, Super Empire Strikes Back, Donkey Kong Country, Super R-Type, some Seta game (Kendo Rage?), NHL 96, F-Zero, Terminator, Bart's Nightmare, Super Mario All-Stars, Big Sky Trooper, Wolverine, PilotWings.
$250 for the SNES games might be an okay deal.
I'll agree the N64 half is less well photoed. Can we assume the yellow carts are all DK64?

I have a Sega Saturn that you can buy. I believe it's a V2 system (manufactured in 1996). It's modified to have RCA jacks for A/V out on the left side of the console, thus eliminating the need for the goofy specific AV cable which I don't have. I was too impatient to order the damn cable online, therefore it has RCA jacks. The gun is pretty sweet. You can set it to auto-fire and auto-reload for enhanced action if you please. BRRR-RRRR-RRRRAT! Another bonus: This gun also works with PlayStation! What a cool find. I believe it is also compatible with some of the goofy Namco gun games on PlayStation like Point Blank that had a Namco-specific gun.
I really like the controller. The design is solid, and the buttons feel great. Good D-Pad too. Works!
Finally, the included game is Virtua Fighter Remix! This game sucks. You're on your own to find better games.
This console is sold as-is with no warranty. Hit my email with any questions please! CASH ONLY NO TRADES Thanks."
Not an outlandish price and it's actually pretty humorous. Good on 'im!

Can't see the ad anymore, but I always assume yellow N64 carts are Tony Hawk.
I guess I should have taken a screen capture on that one, it was a stack of several yellow carts mixed in with a bunch of regular carts pressed together so you couldn't see the titles. I thought of Tony Hawk 2 as well. If the ad is missing because it all sold I'm surprised.
More ads. The first is just a greatest hits copy of Doom for the PS1, I don't see how it's that rare. Second ad is just some loose Gameboy Colors and a Gameboy Advance.

2 ORIGINAL NINTENDOS+20-25 GAMES (WEST SEATTLE)
2 OF THE VERY FIRST NINTENDOS-THEY BOTH WORK BUT SOME DAYS TAKES A LIL PATIENCE TO GET IT GOING (MEANING KEEP PRESSIN RESET, TAKIN THE GAME OUT N BACK IN) BUT THEY DO WORK!! I HAVE ALMOST EVERY GAME MADE!! SOME STILL IN THE CASES ALL WORK FINE.
Sooooo... 20-25 games (too lazy to count) = almost every game made. Oh and those cases being referred to are the clear Nintendo-branded rental cases.

Don't know if this is especially good or bad, but didn't want to start a separate topic to ask.
I don't recall OoT ever being officially bundled with the guide. Anyone remember if this is official or just a sealed rebundle?

I received that exact same bundle Christmas of 1999 IIRC? I remember clearly seeing them at Sam's Club back in the day and pointing out to my mom that that was the game I wanted. She ended up getting it for me that Christmas.... I still have it and the guide. Man that brings back some great memories!
I don't know if it's an official Nintendo bundle or something done by some other company, but I believe the game inside is factory sealed.

Sam's Club has always done bundles like that. Well, I don't know if they do anymore but they did when I was a kid.

That one has a price on it.
I also remember seeing these at Roses (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roses_%28store%29) years ago, along with other outdated gaming merchandise. Such a shame I didn't care about collecting back then and ignored them, but then again, I was 12 or so. I doubt these were done by Nintendo. I imagine a wholesale supplier bought the manuals and games, did the blister packaging, and sold them to specialty stores as a set. Two birds with one stone approach.

Well, judging by the prices on eBay of the few listings, that seems somewhat OK, eventhough still not a bargain.
The 100$ one is clearly overpriced though.

I so badly want to mess with this guy. Like offering Stadium Events for $2 b/c its a crappy sports game and Tetris for $20 b/c its a classic. Or, something like saying I have 7 or 8 copies of Stadium Events but can't get my hands on a copy of Tetris.

Statium Events also contains a misspelling. Messing with that guy would be fun, though.

That's too simple.
I say print out a Stadium Events label, attach it to a copy of SMB/Duck Hunt, and imagine his excitement being crushed when he puts the cart in the system. LOL

Believe it or not, I actually have the back of a Stadium Events case with a rental label. When I sold my copy of Stadium Events, I changed out the backsides so I could keep a little memento it. So, that would add to the believability. Anyone want to send me a printed label. I'd pay postage + $1 for the printing. I wouldn't even care if you changed the label art to be misspelled Statium Events as he spelled it in his ad.
