I messaged a guy about his 8 bit games and he has 200 floppy disks of games ( he said untested since he had no way to test them ) but assured me that he wants at least 500 cause they are good games and work well. Like my handle says GTG ( got to get ) away from there. Those are games that will sit a while or he/she will end up saying oh yeah i tested them when they didnt. 2.50 a disk i guess would be ok if they all worked and were of atari 8 bit games. but not for me.

selling my 1977 Atari great condition with game's - $325 (Rockford)

Selling my 1977 Atari great conditionn all parts are there and comes with lot's of game's. Bring the kid back into u. Remember those days. Got it checked out by a vintage toy shope an they priced it at $460.00 with the game's. NOT A REMAKE!!!!! All original 2 Atari that came out after pong. The price range for the model is between $125-$700 and depends on condtion and what its missing and what games and broken parts and pieces and how meny games. Also selling original nintendo with lots of games. Only thing missing is power cord so u will need to go to vintage toy shop to see if they have one or call nintendo. Cost of this is also up there as well good condition needs a good cleaning. Selling for $200 but if you buy both for $425 MY LOSS YOUR GAIN!!!! Thanks for looking.

I've actually emailed a few people that had outrageous prices on some things before. Explaining the the items can be bought dirt cheap else where in the off chance they legitimately didn't know the value. I have had a couple reply to me confirming that they new this and were just baiting for stupid people, and that they have successfully done so in the past.

A few weeks ago, there was someone selling a Virtual Boy on CL for $250.
"Sweet!" I thought "This one's probably complete in the box, and it's local!"
Turns out it was just the system and the controller, no games, no battery pack, no ac adapter, no stand...
I sent them an email and offered them $45. They went ballistic and accused me of being some low-balling troll, and gave me they're Amazon pricing research... the thing is still for sale, and they haven't lowered the price.

Here's my current favorite though... "Atari 2600 Special Edition Darth Vader" for $190

Atleast you get some fair deals once in awhile. In my local ads and Craigslist all I find is insane prices, an NES with 15 games...sounds good right? I checked out the game list, he had like 5 copies of mario brothers/duck hunt and just a bunch of crappy games...asking price, $250 firm.

EDIT: Also, people try to pawn off their PS2 games at 20 bucks a pop. I buy them from a pawn shop for 5-10 dollars each and they are atleast good.

One guy was selling like 2 NES systems and 4 SNES systems for 150$ saying its a "good resale value"

I see people posting NES systems for 100 bucks saying the local pawn shops sell them for 150...which is a flat out lie since I know EVERY single pawn shop in my area and the highest NES I found was 59 and it was boxed and in perfect shape.

ive seen nes systems in my area of craiglist for stupid amounts of money.. we just sold the last spare nes unit out of the pawnshop for $50 with a few games and two controllers.
the kid who bought it said he combed craiglist for one then lucked into the shop .

Thought I would throw in something...not an overpriced deal, but rather underpriced, that I snatched up recently. An "are they serious?" moment of the opposite kind.

A guy was selling a Turbografx-16, all cables and one controller (and the rear cover, which seems to be missing often), with Bonk's Adventure, Bonk's Revenge, Legendary Axe, Galaga '90, Military Madness, Alien Crush, Dungeon Explorer, the multitap, and a Turbostick w/box which I purchased for $120, all in excellent condition. The system itself is selling for $80-100+ online for the most part, and the accessories for decent sums of money.

This will be a sad story for any sealed collectors (i buy a few games i really like and keep sealed copies, i don't consider myself a sealed game collector tho).

But anyway, this is back when the sealed game craze was in its infancy (although i think a new Chrono Trigger had sold for $500+), I found a seller using All of Craigslist who had a new copy of the game. Unfortunately I found out that he sold it locally. After that I was a bit persistent and asked if he could share the email of the person who bought it. I contacted that person, and they ended up letting me know that it had been opened up lol. I always seem to get really close but end up missing out on the really good deals.

No, sorry I should clarify, at that time a sealed copy had gone for $500+ on ebay.

People on craigslist weren't too privy to Ebay at that time(unlike now where they think an old system is made of gold), so it seemed like a good opportunity to try and find a sealed one on there. I found a copy on craigslist for I think $35-50 (the sealed one). But yeah, then found out the guy had opened it lol.

I don't know about that. I've seen a lot of listings on eBay, and Craigslist as well, that just keep coming up over and over again at the same absurd prices. Original games from 1987, when the Super Nintendo didn't come out until 1991, and the arcade game didn't come out until that year as well. Maybe it is a 4 year old proto cart from before the Super Nintendo was released. :) I know they just typed in Street Fighter into Wikipedia and found the first game and typed in the year that game was released. I hear dumb asses talk like this around here as well. Well, I'm in SD as well, so go figure. They talk about Street Fighter II like it was the original game. The first couple times I thought they were talking about the first game, so I started talking about the differences and I get a blank stare from their faces. I then realize they were talking about the second game. People also talk about the Sega Genesis as "the original Sega" and I think they're talking about the master system. These are people my age or older too!

SparTonberry

Considering how much the NES buried the Master System in the US, maybe it is understandable some people never heard of it?

I'm just curious as to how these people expect to sell anything when they list a bunch of games with a price with no pictures or didn't tell what the titles are. Lots of these ads would do better if they actually gave the ad a few more minutes of their time and type out more details. I usually don't bother if they make you fish out the information with a million emails.

last week I saw a person at a flea market with a wood grain 2600 that looked beat up and like 6 games and they wanted 150 bucks.

ebay doesn't helkp the prices of things either. I was looking at console lot sales and if you look at them, you'll see some pretty crazy amounts for some things. Like N64s, few games and 2 controllers for like 130-150 bucks yet at the same time you'll see sales of the same thing for like 25. So I think people just look at sold listings, sort highest first and then say its worth that.

Though on CL I always price high because everyone will always try to low ball you. So if something is really worth 50, I'd price at 75 because then someone will offer 40 or 50 instead of 30.

I tend not to believe people who say"I've been offered thissssssssssssssssssssssssss much for blah, blah, blah". So he wants $5,000 for everything, even though he was supposedly offered $3,000 for just the Nes stuff but didn't take it. I doubt he was offered even half of that.

Not craigslist but pretty insane imo.

These usually sell for just under $300 including shipping.
I emailed this guy when he first listed it asking him about it, and telling him what they normally go for and he replied "The price is right $999.99). You are right about the others copies selling at around $300, still there is only one copy #1443 of this item. Probably nobody will buy it but who knows." After the first listing ended he relisted it for $1958.34.

Sure...

Those are the kind of listings I wish ebay would remove due to their new picture policy. He wants $150 for his game but he doesn't even have a picture to prove what it looks like? You can get a good 10-12 mega pixel camera for around $25-$50. He has no excuse.

people can also just be looking for suckers. There are enough of them out there. I mean, look at ebay. Some stuff sells for just stupid amounts while something that is exactly same can sell for like nothing.

Super Nintendo and Games! - $1500 (Gettysburg, PA)

I have a Super Nintendo, yes the realllly old one. I have the console, two controllers, and twelve games. The games ON THEIR OWN run between $200.00 and $700.00 separately, go look. The console is sold for a little under $100.00, so I am offering a huge bargain and way for someone else to make a little money off of it. The reason I am selling and need sold BY THIS FRIDAY is because I need to get an apartment ASAP. As I've said, I know how much the system and games are going for, and selling only two games could bring back your $1,400 alone, so please no low offers.

damn, if every SNES game whet for, lets average that to $550 a game, I'd sell all mine in a heartbeat.. I'd be 27,000 dollars richer.

I'll confess, I threw my entire collection of consoles + games + accessories on CL like 3 weeks ago for $3000 bucks just for the hell of it. I mean, if some moron payed it or something close to it, I probably would have taken it. I don't think what I own is worth 3 grand. probably more like 750-1000 worth of stuff.

Has anyone else noticed this lately? Not sure if it's a new thing or what it is.. some sort of scam or just you're really lonely and want people to call you... but

Have you noticed the people selling off a lot of games.. some snes.. n64.. gamecbe.. whatever. Either their brother died or they fished them out of the garage... they want 5 bucks a piece for each game.. but each game in the picture is like holy grail type games for the system. rare rpgs for snes etc. the games that go for like 150-200 bucks just sitting there and the person doesn't know it. and you contact them and they never answer back.

Has anyone else seen these? What do you think the deal is? They want your number to solicit you or something else? I don't get it.

Here is an example from today.

http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/vgm/3876867553.html

Usually its older stuff like Earthbound and Illusion of Gaia and all that.. every game pictured is usually worth well over what they're asking.

UPDATE:

I googled the phone number and found his facebook. He looks like a flea market videogame reseller.. so he obviously knows the prices. So what's the scam? Or is it just craigslist trolling?

Someone has it out for him for some reason. Probably felt they got ripped off somehow and decided to spam his phone line. He probably runs his business off a cell phone and having people bombard it like a post of that kind would probably do could potentially lose him good money.

I messaged him. and it seems like the same guy. Terrible spelling, and he admitted he was selling them. it's his number. He has a flea market stand where he sells games (even has a youtube page showcasing him and his friends working there) so its not all just on his phone. It could be possible someone has it out for him, but everything matches up to be him so far.

I guess I'll chalk it up to maybe trolling of some kind he is doing because on his youtube page he calls in to a public access show pranking them.. so maybe he's gonna post the people's messages on youtube or maybe he wants them to come to see the games and its just a prank. Not sure

i texted that SNES guy and he said he sold it for near his asking price....I don't buy it but idiots are born every day.

Pretty sure they just say that so they don't look like idiots. About a year ago I gave away a Mac SE with software printer, and zip drives for free because I was moving and felt like being generous. These people gave me some sap story about their brother being a Mac collector and would love it and blah blah blah I didn't care much about the story since I was giving it away anyways. About a month later it was listed on Craigslist for $800. I laughed to myself since I got it for free and they can be actively bought for $50-$100 pretty easily. So contacted him and called him out on it and told him I was the person that system came from and I hope he enjoys it. He replied to be with "Yeah right I've had this system for a long time and I already sold it yesterday for my asking price." I had contacted him on the day the listing went up, and I knew it was mine since it literally had all the same drives, software, and printer stuff in the same boxes I gave it to them in. Not only that but there was a stamp on the top of the system with a library's name, address, and the systems serial number that was clearly visible in the pictures. All of it matched the system I gave away.

TLDR: people are idiots.
