Well, I haven't started playing a new (new meaning a game I haven't played before, not something new as in a Wii game) in a very long time. However, I've been sick for a couple days and I was thinking about what I could be doing. I eventually realized "Hey, I have this massive collection of video games!" So I picked one that I thought I would like: Paper Mario for the N64.
I put a good 4 hours into it tonight; I'm really liking it so far.

Had some free time to I completely restocked my PS2 games. By restocking I mean that I have my PS2 in an entertainment stand and 12 games will fit between the PS2 and the top of the shelf. I try to limit myself as with over 500 PS2 titles and a short attention span I tend to get distracted and never make it very far into anything. With a 12 game selection I can focus on playing and completing titles I've picked out for myself. Decided to play through the following:
College Hoops 2K7
MVP '05 (Has been one of the 12 games since it was released)
Psi Ops
Raw Danger
The Adventures of Darwin
Red Faction
Ace Combat 4
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Okami
Gladiator: Sword of Vengeance
The Hobbit
Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
I had a chance to play Psi-ops for a couple of hours last night, and it is awesome. The (havoc) physics engine is perfect for flinging guys against walls, throwing explosive barrels around, and just causing complete destuction. Truely one of Midway's better projects. Haven't dug too far into the other games yet, although I did play The Adventures of Darwin and Raw Danger for about a half an hour a piece.
Other than digging through stacks of PS2 games I also played the following:
Arch Rivals (NES)
Codename Viper (NES)
Industrial Spy (Dreamcast)
Virtua Tennis (Dreamcast)

Well, I really like it so far. I was expecting much less for the $15 that it cost me brand new. I haven't played the first game in the series (Disaster Report), so it is hard for me to draw comparisions to that one. It is definatly based off a survival horror style game, but I don't think that you'll find any weapons in this game. I would give you the thumbs up to buy because of it's already bargin bin price tag, despite that I've only experienced about an hour of the game. For $15 it is a pretty damn good deal.

I was away at a friend's house for a long weekend, and we ultimately didn't do much gaming. I did play 10 rounds of Monkey Target in Super Monkey Ball on GameCube, though. I used to play 4-player Monkey Target constantly years ago with my boyfriend, his brother, and whatever buddy was over, but we can't seem to get organized like that anymore unfortunately (we'd also play a lot of Mario Kart 64 on N64, which I really miss). Despite having not played it in so long, I still got a score over 1000, which is nothing like what I used to get but at least shows I have some experience.
When I got back home, my Super Mario Sunshine strategy guide was waiting for me, so I started up the GameCube and just about instantly found the last 4 blue coins I was missing with its help. A little bit later, I got my last Shine by beating the red coin challenge in Noki Bay, and I think the guide help slightly with that too by giving tips on the best moves to perform to quickly pick the coins up and progress. After I had all 120 Shines, I beat the game again to see the different ending picture, but it's not much of a reward. No matter, though, since the game itself is the reward. Now I've retired it and I'll move onto something else probably later today.

Got 85000 points, dissapointing. I'm gonna need to think of some new tactics soon. I don't really like doing that though.
We Love Katamari - PS2
Decided i needed to round up all the remaining cousins. I got 2 new ones, one on the racing level and one on the underwater one. I think there's only 5 left to get. No idea where the 2nd one is on the racing level though.

I decided to make The Addams Family on SNES the next game I'd play through, and.... I'm not really sure why. :P Well, I guess it's a combination of the fact that I got up to the coverage of it in Nintendo Power and they actually give it a lot of praise and attention, and I've been seeing it praised around here lately too. It all convinced me to give it a second chance. I got it a few years ago for a buck from a neighbor's garage sale just a couple houses down from my mom's house, and I gave it the old quick test and quickly dismissed it as licensed crap and put it away. Now that I'm actually putting some time into it and using the Nintendo Power coverage to give me some tips and direction, I'm coming to the conclusion that it ain't too bad, at least for a derivative Mario clone. It does suffer from typical bad American game design, what with its slippery controls and really annoying sound effects, and it's definitely not good enough for me to want to play it on my own and have to aimlessly wander to figure out the best order to tackle everything. However, those problems are fairly slight and can be ignored most of the time. Overall it's enjoyable enough for the short amount of time it'll probably take me to beat it. Already I've collected the three extra heart containers and rescued everybody except for Fester and Morticia. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm done with it by the end of today (and I started just yesterday).
Actually, probably the most amusing part of the game is the sheer incompetence of the programmer that did the password system (and the testers that didn't catch the mistake). So I'm playing through the game collecting tons of live in Pugsley's Den after each boss fight (maybe it's kinda cheating, but I don't really care with this game and it's just a secret area not a code or anything), and I eventually rack up 99. Since I don't tend to lose that many lives reaching and fighting a boss, I still had 90-some when I beat the Wacky Scientist in order to rescue Pugsley. I very carefully write down the code and doublecheck it slowly, but when I go to put it in later no dice. After much trial and error of switching characters that I might've made a mistake on, I give in and start from the password I got after rescuing Wednesday, save Pugsley once again, and even more carefully write down my new password. Then I try putting that one in: "Access Denied". I'm about ready to go nuts at this point, but eventually I get the idea to check the FAQs at GameFAQs to see if they have a glitches section or something. I discover a password hacking section and think "great, maybe I can make a new password that would work", and as I read through it, I read about this "9 glitch". Turns out that if you look at the Assembly code of the game, there's a small bit of error-checking code to assure that the two digits in the lives count are within range. Obviously, they should be able to be anything from 0 to 9. However, this programmer makes the dumbest mistake in the world. He checks if the digits are greater than OR EQUAL to 9. So if you beat a boss and get a password when your lives total is either 90-something or 9, 19, 29, etc. you're screwed. As a computer science major, this kind of mistake in a professional product in unbelievable to me, both in a shocking way and in a humorous way. And the irony is that all it takes to make this completely broken password system into a perfectly working password system is to replace that "9" in the code with "A" (hexadecimal for "10"). So anyway, I had to make myself a new password, which was actually kind of fun. The two characters to represent what areas have been completed are easy to get and completely independent from the lives problem, so I didn't have to toy with those. I saved myself the trouble of working on a new lives amount by just using the characters that represent 75 from the FAQ's example, so I only really had to do some decimal to binary conversion (and vice versa) and a logical AND operation with 11111 (decimal 31) to come up with a number that I could match up with the password characters to get the proper checksum. It all worked like a charm, and it was fun to finally put that knowledge to a practical use for the first time. :) I had to do it a second time later too because I saved Granny with 69 lives, doh. :P

As predicted, I finished off The Addams Family on SNES shortly after making my previous post. I like how they took the effort to make cartoon sprite portraits of every person that work on the game, but taking the effort to make sure the password system wasn't broken wasn't a priority. Gotta love American game developers. :P
I haven't picked anything new to focus on just yet, but I did test out a whole bunch of stuff. I don't know why I've been buying so many dang licensed cartoon/comic games lately, but I ended up having to test out Animaniacs and Spider-Man on Genesis and The Jungle Book on SNES. Well, I guess 1 out of 3 being decent ain't too bad for licensed games. I had a fair bit of fun with Animaniacs, but, man, Spider-Man's controls are atrocious. The Jungle Book is basically an even more slippery and sloppy version of Aladdin on Genesis, which I don't care much for either.
I also played some Trivial Pursuit on Sega CD with my boyfriend, but since neither of us have ever played the board game, it took awhile to figure out how exactly it worked. Even when we knew how to play, something weird was going on because when we'd put in that we got an answer right it still wouldn't color in the wedges. Eventually we said "screw this" and decided to play Jeopardy on SNES via an emulator thinking that would be good for a laugh. It started off okay, but eventually we were getting to the point where we didn't know crap and the computer-controlled player was slaughtering us. That kind of killed the little fun it had to offer. I also tested out Double Switch on Sega CD, but I got a Game Over pretty much instantly since I have no clue how to play these Night Trap style games. :P

Quite a few goes and was really frustrating since the other day i picked it up for the first time in ages and got to the last boss which i'd never done before and i played it loads and couldn't make it past level 4.
Sega Marine Fishing - Dreamcast
Decided to get this out again and it was ok, nothing great though, i don't think i'll play it much more.
Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii: Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2
I love writing that title, well, i tried out cheerleader mode and it was hard and then went back to the early levels on hard and they were annoying with their lack of dots.
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 - DS
Tried to carry on where i'd left off at the start of chapter 2 but couldn't remember what i was meant to be doing and nothing seemed to be happening after walking everywhere and talking to the 2 people i could. Looks like a quick check on gamefaqs is needed.

Just because my flatmate said he never sees me play on the wii. He didn't want to play tanks though so i played the shooting and the matching the twirly people, then played:

I decided the next game I'll play is going to be Brave Fencer Musashi for PlayStation, which was the other game of the two games I was trying to decide between when I chose to play Super Mario Sunshine. Even though I may seem like such an RPG fiend, I love platformers just as much, if not even more, so sometimes I find a good adventure game even more satisfying than a traditional RPG since they offer some nice action too. So far I'm having a lot of fun with Musashi, but I'm not very far - just up to the beginning of Chapter 2 and I'm hanging out in Grillin' Village.

I've been playing more Brave Fencer Musashi on PlayStation, but I've been having a hard time making progress. So far it's largely been an experience in trial and error since the game isn't very clear about what you should be doing nor is it clear about what you can and can't pull off. I actually even read through the entire manual before playing, but it didn't help all that much. So anyway, I found the dog Leno, and I was stuck for awhile on trying to figure out where on earth Meandering Forest was. Turns out it was an area within other areas, so when I gave up on finding it and started wandering in places that I assumed I shouldn't be yet, that's when I found it. I got stuck there for awhile too, though, because I couldn't figure out to assimilate the plant enemy to get over the thorns. Eventually I stumbled across that, and I fetched the key for Jon. Now I need to follow Jon up into the mountains and cut down four trees, and I'm stuck yet again. First I was just running back and forth because I didn't really notice the poles in the water, nor did I think I could leap to and hold onto them. Eventually my Mario senses kicked in and I gave it a try. I traversed the mountain a bit and chopped one tree down, but I got stuck right there. There was a path cut into the mountain near the tree, but I couldn't seem to leap up onto it. I tried jumping around onto various things, and since I wasn't paying enough attention to my HP, I died from falling in the water too much. :/ I hope I get the hang of this game soon because it stinks to keep getting stuck over and over. I'm still enjoying myself, but I kinda liked the game better in the first chapter when everything was so straightforward.

Indigo Prophecy - I was really getting into until I reached the part where you need to research Lucas's book in the old bookstore. When I got there I spoke to the old man, but his accent was so goofy that I couldn't understand what he told me I needed to do. I even restarted back to my last save, but still didn't understand him. Unbelievably, the game doesn't offer an option for subtitles either. I was too lazy to go down to the computer, turn it on, and check a FAQ, so I'll probably go back to it tomorrow sometime.
While at the local movie place I also picked up used copies of Magic Pengel: Quest for Color ($3.95), The Red Star ($4.95), and Galatic Wrestling ($3.95) so I'll be trying those out soon as well.

Neo Geo MVS Candy Cab..
Street Hoops
I haven't played this game in awhile, seeing it on the nice Candy cab screen put a smile to my face..I can never get tired of this stuff..
I started off horribly, the other team was really kicking my ass but I made a comeback and won by one point in the last seconds..
,,,Then I went on to win several games against several teams, using the steal the ball to get the ball more as my team couldn't shoot for nothing...My straight winning,no continue streak lasted more then ever..
I got beat by a better shooting Green shirt team..
Last Blade 2 against my Son..
First game I gave it to him bad,no holding back..
He got all into it and beat me so bad with flying kicks over and over,he was moving his hands so fast on the buttons..
I had a great time playing the MVS games tonight..More fun then I've had in a long time..

I've been trying out tons of different stuff these last couple days, so let's see if I can remember everything. o_O First off, I got a ColecoVision (my first pre-NES system), and I played Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Carnival, Venture, Smurf, Ladybug, Gorf, Cosmic Avenger, Looping, Pepper II, Zaxxon, and Space Fury. Hard to say what was my favorite since I found most of them to be quite a fun diversion. I don't think I could drop hours and hours straight into these games since I'm just not from that generation (that is, I grew up with games that have a beginning and an end, not those that just go infinitely and focus on score), but I still had a blast and will definitely pull it out from time to time. If I had to single out anything, I'd say Pepper II was really great. I think I enjoyed it MORE than Pac-Man.
I also tested out Blaster Master 2, Jurassic Park, and Wings of Wor on Genesis. Wings of Wor is bad ass, but the other two are pretty lame. I played some Yggdra Union on my Game Boy Advance SP, and it took me awhile just to figure out what was going on. It's not instantly satisfying like a Shining Force or Fire Emblem, but I could see myself getting into it with time.
Oh, and I played Sonic the Hedgehog briefly via the Sonic Mega Collection on GameCube just to show my mom who Sonic the Hedgehog is. :P
After I got all that testing out of the way, I got back in Brave Fencer Musashi on PlayStation, and it turns out that path cut into the mountain WAS where I was supposed to go. The game was just being very picky about how it could be jumped onto. Since getting past that part, I have been making good progress. I think I'm getting into the rhythm of the game, so I'm not getting stuck much. I completed all the other stuff in Chapter 2, and now I'm near the beginning of Chapter 3. I found the flower in the underground lake for the sick boy's medicine, but now I need to head up Twinpeak Mountain yet again to look for the guy searching for the other plant.

Last night:
I got stuck, totally frustrated because I was Rushing.,,,Took my time and got past the mission..Next two-three missions were easy..
Then I get to what I feel is a big change in difficulty mission and the enemy tore me apart...I have to rethink the mission and find a better way to do it..
Playing Japanese N64 games right now.

Tomb Raider Legend - Xbox 360
Finished this game, may replay it on hard and do the time trials but I'm taking a break with it for now. I buffed out the last two levels I needed after playing the game on and off for awhile.
The Darkness - Xbox 360
I beat this game a few weeks ago but I'm still replaying various parts of the singleplayer.
Need for Speed: Most Wanted - Xbox 360
Enjoying this game alot, I just beat the 5th guy on the "Blacklist".
I am also playing RE 4 on PS2 and some Freelancer on PC.

Beat Tomb Raider Anniversary, hooked up Dreamcast again. Tonight and last night played:
Crazy Taxi. Got 9,000+ points which is good for me. Great game! I never did really learn the routes which earn 10's of thousand scores.
SEGA 18 Wheeler. Reviews shemews! I love digging this game out and replaying it every 6 months or so! I think it is great fun, unique and thankfully a brief experience for us buys folks.
Test Drive: Le Mans. Hard to believe we used to think this was the best looking driving game ever; it has aged quite a bit , but still was pretty fun for a few races.
Marvel VS Capcom 2 against my 2 sons. I can only beat the 12-year old 1/5 of the time; he insists on using uber-cheap Spider-Man. I usually pick Guile, Wolverine, Colossus, Hulk, or Venom along with some other characters as my "3rd picks".
GigaWing -- beat the game once through, and yes of course I blew all my bombs, died, and continued many times. :) I always enjoyed GW.

I think I'm near the end of Chapter 3 in Brave Fencer Musashi on PlayStation now. I got three of the four eyes to light up in the ruins underneath the restaurant, and the game only seems to be getting better and better.
I finally got to rock the Super Scope on my SNES today now that I finally gathered together a receiver, a few Super Scope games, and 6 AA batteries (yikes). Yet again, I find myself falling in love with another Gunpei Yokoi creation, and, just like with the Virtual Boy, I find myself wondering why everybody hates it so much. So far I've mostly just played the Super Scope 6 pack to get the hang of it, but I watched my boyfriend try Battle Clash and Metal Combat (and I played Metal Combat for just a couple minutes). I'm amazed at just how much fun it is to wield that behemoth, and it makes me feel like a total bad ass. :)

Turns out I wasn't quite at the end of Chapter 3 in Brave Fencer Musashi on PlayStation. After I lit up the last eye in the ruins, I got the belt that allows me to do a double jump now. This game is feeling more and more like Goemon. :P I went back to all the older areas and found a few trapped people and items I missed, including the weaver who I asked to make me a quilt (I initially went with the gloves, but after checking some FAQs and seeing that they all recommended the quilt, I loaded my file right before it). After that, I got inside the church and started to battle the giant Vambee monsters, but I couldn't really figure out what I was supposed to do and all of the sudden they all piled on top of me and killed me instantly. o_O It took me by surprise. I'll give it another go later.
I also used my Super Scope some more to play both Battle Clash and Metal Combat on SNES. I played two sessions of Battle Clash, and on the second I beat the game. I got pretty close to the end in Metal Combat too, but eventually I got tired of playing. The only downside to the Super Scope is that it can get slightly exhausting and uncomfortable after playing for around half an hour to an hour straight.

DBZ: Legacy of Goku II. Man, the music in this game is dope. And I've always been a huge fan of the Cell Saga.
