I hadn't played games in over a week, then came a long train journey so after a couple hours I played:
Space Invaders Extreme - DS
And it was amazing again. Went the hardest route and the zone 4C boss with its 2 extra stages kept killing me. And Zone 5D, ouch, its going to be a while before I can finish this. I'm not a great fan of games with branching routes like this, I really want to try the Extra mode that i've opened up but have 3 more routes to complete and levels 4 and 5 are always really hard, plus the bosses have extra stages now.
Geometry Wars Galaxies - Wii
I guess I was in a shooting mood so went back to this and got more medals on some levels and with a new tactic finally got a medal on the sole level I couldn't even bronze. The tactic was good, I think I might've even been close to a gold. Then I tried out the last galaxy and got a gold on almost all those levels. Now i've tried out all the levels and got a medal on them all. I had heard that there was a final level but there doesn't seem to be, oh well.

I haven't been really playing games at home because all I do is hang out at Drexel923's store Next Level Video Games in South Jersey, but when I am there I have been non-stop playing Garou: Mark of the Wolves on his Neo-Geo cab.
When I am home:
DS - Children of Mana
PS2 - Fist of the North Star/Hokuto no Ken
Super Mario Sunshine, as I haven't finished it yet. Shocking...
Other than that, the random occurence of Garou.

More Japanese PS2 games:
I played Sexy Mahjong Party again. I have discovered two extra modes. One is a game where you remove pairs of tiles in order to reveal a picture that you unlock in the catalog if you remove them all in order. The other is a version of Columns with mahjong tiles instead of gems. Guess which one I'm better at?
I also tried out Galaxy Force II Sega Ages. I can't understand why anyone would want to play this game. It was billed as being somewhat like Space Harrier, but this game is nothing like Space Harrier. I actually enjoyed the Master System port more than the actual PS2 Neo version.

Quite a game filled evening a couple of nights ago:
Devil Crash - PC Engine
A vast improvement over Alien Crush. Very creepy. That woman's face in the middle is strange. I have only got to bonus stages twice and I've no idea how. This came with a large fold-out map featuring all the scoring, if only it was in English. I seem to have also got some cut-outs from Japanese magazines giving tips/cheats included in my copy, which is nice.
Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold - PS2
Played as Sakura - everyone was easy up to Ryu, and he was seriously difficult.
Tetris S - Saturn
I don't like this version of Tetris. The controls/response/spin seems off. The backgrounds and overall game is nice though.
-----
Tried out some golf game on my new phone. It seems okay but you have to watch your opponent play as well which is annoying.
Sonic Rush - DS
Zone 6 is hard but also very good and some quite unexpected things. I finally made it up to my boss and also I need to get that chaos emerald, which is very fun.

SVC Chaos - PS2
Since I now have a NeoGeo Pad 2, I thought I should try out an SNK game, no idea why I chose this one as I don't like it much.
Gunhed - PC Engine
Initially confusing with all the different power-ups but once I'd sorted this out its very fun. Got up to Area 5 then keep getting killed by this huge heads firing green things. Its seems a very fun shooter.
Sonic Rush - DS
Zone 6 Chaos Emerald get and boss defeated.

Seems like several of us are enjoying PC Engine shooters lately. :)
I played a little bit more of Gate of Thunder on my Duo-RX, and I got a bit farther than last time. This time I used up all of the continues, though. I don't think I got a Game Over until stage 6, but I had a heck of a time with that stage. Practice makes perfect, though, so I slowly got a bit further with each credit. With my very last credit, I finally beat the stage, but I promptly got my final Game Over on stage 7. Hopefully the next time I play I'll be able to get through stage 6 more easily and have some credits saved up for practicing stage 7.

Just bought a PS3 yesterday with no games. I DLed MLB 2K8 and was severely disappointed with it and have already deleted it from the HDD. I'm currently downloading Heavenly Sword for my wife and will be going after Ridge Racer 7 after that. That's the only game I'm interested in for the console and I can't afford the full version yet so the demo will have to suffice. The main reason I bought the PS3 is for the BD player.
I just bought a Sony 40" LCD and have been loving Super Mario Galaxy on it with component cables. It looks much brighter than on my old WEGA tube TV. I've gotten a few more stars and opened a new set of levels. I've got close to 90 stars right now and I'm not looking forward to completing some of the timed purple coin levels. I've also been playing Brawl but not nearly as much as Galaxy. I was playing Picross DS as well but not so much lately since buying the TV.

I'm continuing experimenting with demos for the PS3 throughout the day. I'm absolutely in love with Ridge Racer 7. The gameplay is more of the same and for a Ridge Racer fiend, that's great. The graphics are amazing especially when you're only used to PS2 and Wii graphics. I can't wait until I can afford the full version. I also DLed Super Rub A Dub, and don't really like it much. It looks great and is a novel concept but I don't like the feel of the controls very much. I also played Super Puzzle Fighter HD and it's pretty decent. Nothing new for me as I've played most of the previous versions before. I'm currently downloading GT 5 and wanting NBA 08. I might buy something cheap later tonight though.

More Japanese PS2 import fun:
Sexy Mahjong Party - I've been playing the minigames through most of the day today to unlock more pics. I'm up to 93 out of 500 unlocked. At some point, this will get boring, but for right now, the tile matching game and the Columns clone are the most fun.
Dream Mix: TV World Fighters - I beat the story mode again with Twinbee and I tried with Yugo from Bloody Roar, but it got boring, so I stopped.
Ga-Rou-Den Breakblow - This game is one of the most fun and bloodiest fighters I've ever played even though I'm not familiar with the characters or storyline. It's rated 15 by Cero, but I'm sure if this game was released in the U.S., it would be rated mature. I need to go to gamefaqs to figure out what the actual move list is for each character.
I'm telling you - having a Japanese PS2 is like owning a completely different system.

After rearranging some things in my bedroom, I found games I hadn't played in a while or at all. Tonight, I'm focusing on domestic PS2.
Heavenly Guardian - This game is better than Kiki-Kai Kai (aka Pocky & Rocky), a game that I always found to be overly difficult since it was a ranged shooter. The isometric 3D graphics really add a lot to what is a very simplistic game.
Moto GP - I can understand why this was an impressive launch game, but I've never really been that good at motorcycle games. I played the arcade mode once and placed 13th.
Midway Arcade Treasures 1 - I hadn't played it since February of 2007. I can't believe I hadn't played Robotron on this version before since I played the heck out of it on Xbox. I took quick runs through Robotron and Smash TV.
Here's hoping I can at least start Final Fantasy XII tonight...

Yakuza - PS2
I was playing this a lot last year but was near the end and knew a good few hours were needed but never set that time aside. So I loaded it up and I was 24 hours in. Two more hours and the game was complete. I shouldn't have waited as I had forgotten some of the (already quite complex) story (though the profile info in-game helped out a lot). After you finish the game it gives you some great statistics like i've defeated a total of 1094 enemies etc. It also opened up some nice features where you are free to walk around the town, replay past battles/cut scenes etc.
Sky Force - Phone
Played the demo of this, its a good vertical scrolling shooter. Great graphics and seems fun, I might have to purchase the full game soon.
Sonic Rush - DS
Finished the last level (plus emerald) with its crazy gravity scenarios. The last boss defeats me though so I gave up (for now).
Tetroid 2012 - PC
Available for download at http://www.entity.be/entity/
Its a free game released as a record label sampler. Its a psychedelic Tetris clone with graphic warping that hurts your eyes. Interestingly, when the pile is too high, it turns into Mr. Driller for a while! Also, you can activate a special which turns the gamefield upside down and into a Breakout style game!
Endless Ocean - Wii
This has been unavailable for ages but it seems to have reappeared on shop shelves so I snapped it up. Its very relaxing, very enjoyable. Spent the first day trying to unlock all the toys and stuff and played for 2 hours which got a bit boring. However last night I just played for one dive, about 15 minutes and it was fantastic. I think its a little bit a day kind of game. Glad to have finally picked it up.

I'm trying to stick with the domestic PS2 this week.
Last night:
Silpheed: The Lost Planet - I finally got a high score posted, even though it was number 10.
Tonight:
Final Fantasy XII - I started it, but I find it to be really boring. The battle system sucks with the proximity trees or whatever they're called. I would actually prefer random battles or automatic cutscenes with the sphere grid or anything to what it currently uses.
Hopefully, I can play some more before bed...

So now instead of $2 this game ended up costing my $85 ($83 seat belt ticket) so the rest of the game better be damn good.

Endless Ocean - Wii
So first I did a simple diving and photo request mission then I decided to go back to the area I'd been the night before. I had missed the entrance to the caves. Upon exploring there was a huge network of caves and tunnels all holding interesting features in the chambers. There were some crazy creatures too, including a False Killer Whale who I hope to make my new partner. Those caves were brilliant, so much fun just exploring them and seeing all these new creatures and taking photos.

Taito Legends 2 - I've been playing Space Invaders '95 to death. I've also attempted to get further in Bonze Adventure, Liquid Kids, Kiki Kai Kai, Gekirindan and Space Invaders DX.
Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 1 - I've never really played any of these games outside of the Super NES, but the whole vertical plane movement thing and the stiff movements kind of threw me off. I attempted Fatal Fury Special and Fatal Fury 3.

It took a few separate attempts, but I beat Gate of Thunder on my PC Engine Duo-RX. What an exceptionally well-made, satisfying shooter. It's amazing how much effort and thought the developers put into every last detail. I'm getting a craving to play it even more, despite that usually I move on once I beat a game. I did briefly try out the higher difficulties, though, and I found myself impressed even with that aspect. Most shooters would just give you less lives/continues and more bullets, but in Gate of Thunder they not only added more enemies but also new enemy behavior. It's little touches like that that go above and beyond the call of duty in game design that make me truly appreciate video games, as silly as that may sound.
Anyway, I've also been playing a little PlayStation 2. I tried out Mana Khemia and Heavenly Guardian, which are the first games I've bought at the brand new MSRP for the PS2 since... Chulip, I think, and before that I don't even know, maybe Katamari Damacy. o_O It usually takes a damn good reason to make me buy a game at full launch price, but the PS2 has been really exciting to me lately, probably more so than it's ever been. I love the end of a system's life span because all the quirky Japanese games that got passed on before actually see the light of day due to the shrinking market, and they're often budget priced at that. Plus there's the whole possibility of the games becoming valuable later on, since games that come at the end of a system's life tend to have a higher chance of being printed in small quantities, setting up a perfect situation for creating rarities and high-value games. But anyway, I'm happy with both of the games. I already posted a bit about Mana Khemia in Modern Gaming, and Heavenly Guardian is a nice 2D arcade-style romp that is very enjoyable for its $15 price (if it was 40 or 50 bucks, then, yeah, that would be a rip-off, since it's decidedly low budget and no frills).
