So I had a long train ride and was debating over whether to take the GB Micro or the DSlite and in the end decided to take my NeoGeo Pocket Color, which has never come on a train ride with me before. Surprisingly the non-backlit screen held up very well. Here's what I played:

Sonic Pocket Adventure - NGPC
So, yes, I did buy and complete this earlier in the year already, but I went through the whole game again. Very fun, and no stupid annoying bosses like in Sonic Rush. The 3D special stages aren't as fun as Sonic Rush though.

Pac-Man - NGPC
Very addicting. I'm not very good though. Only just failed to break 20k points. I can get near 10k on the first stage though.

Crush Roller - NGPC
Despite being nowhere near as good as Pac-Man I went and completed it again, taking a different route through. I am going to have to do this many times to see all the stages.

Also, I put a few more hours into Phoenix Wright: And Justice For All. I am a sucker for this series, easily an all-time favorite of mine.

Arcade - Galaxian

Now that I have the convergence properly tuned it's playing better than ever. Set a new personal high score as well - 35,780 - 40,000 is in reach. :) I have an "old gameplay" boardset which plays out more difficult than the "new gameplay" most Galaxian boards seem to be. The big difference is that the old gameplay boards have enemies that shoot in front of them as they dive down. The new gameplay boards have enemies that drop their shots behind them so it's far easier to get underneath and take them out.

So I played this on my DSlite instead of the GameBoy Micro I'm used to. The bigger screensize helped show off the graphics but the controls felt different. It still makes my hands hurt and I still haven't managed to complete it before giving up to hurting hands.

Played this on the Micro. Its still an utterly fantastic and unique experience and I played some games + songs I haven't done before.

Finally completed it! And I made a mistake on the last lap and just scraped through the finish line with 1 second remaining on the timer.

Ontamarama - DS
New game time (well almost, I've had it for 4/5 months, but still sealed). Its a rhythm action game where you have to multi-task. Use the d-pad to hit the arrows in time with the music whilst simultaneously use the touch screen to tap the blobs NOT in time with the music. It all gets a bit messy and confusing due to this and the last lot of songs are mental, it gets some speed thrash metal tracks. Anyway, story mode on normal has 12 tracks and I completed it! Thats two games complete in one day! It was pretty damn hard but I guess the main part of the game is going over scores etc. You can unlock new songs but you need 6000 (or maybe only 3000) points to unlock the first one and in total I've only built up around 600, and that includes replaying quite a few tracks too.

Ever since I finished off my Game Boy gaming, I've yet to really crack into something new. I have been playing a lot of different games for testing purposes, though. The great NES find I posted about in the August Finds topics is turning out to be a godsend for me, and the new system is amazingly reliable compared to my old piece of crap. I tried out 6 random games - Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Mario Bros., Fester's Quest, Legacy of the Wizard, and Cobra Triangle, and of those only one didn't work on the very first try. Even then the one that didn't work didn't give me a blinking screen, so I think it was more the game's problem. I also briefly played Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, and Friday the 13th on my old NES as I prepare to get rid of it.

Then I tested out some games on my CDX that I found that same day as the NES. I played Sewer Shark and Tomcat Alley for Sega CD and Joe Montana II Sports Talk Football and Star Trek: The Next Generation for Genesis.

After a year of owning a 3DO with no games, I finally caved in and bought one off of eBay, and of course I'm gonna go for one of the few RPGs - Guardian War. It's not good, but it's not really bad either. Just kinda tedious and ugly looking (although I do like how the monsters look like old school Chuck E. Cheese animatronics, hehe). It wasn't an expensive purchase, so I got my money's worth.

And finally I played a slight bit of Elite Beat Agents on DS again, just for the fun of it. :)

Kinda odd choice of game, given the real-life events, as of late.

But I just did a massive overhaul on my PC (switched out my twin 7800gt's for a Radeon 4870x2), and I thought I'd give this and Crysis a whirl to test her out.

I finally played through Shadow of Destiny after picking it up for $1.50.. over half a year ago I think it was. The game interested me but it was really the super low price that made me grab the copy I have (flea market, guy only had it and Ape Escape, both in perfect condition for $3.00 for the pair). I only gave it a quick play when I bought it to make sure it worked. Pretty interesting game, kind of like an episode of The Outer Limits crossed with Quantum Leap. Light on the action but it's almost like the old LucasArts adventure games in how some of the puzzles work. Glad I picked it up and sat down and went through one of the endings, I think I'll go through a couple more times this weekend.

Also played a little Galaxian on the cocktail but just a few quick games.

I don't know what it is about my Power Pad games, but they've been like a curse to every NES they touch. I posted about the amazing reliability of the new NES I have previously, but once I popped those games in, it was like the old NES all over again. I even tried some other games after that, and they didn't want to work either. I decided to clean the games again, and even though hardly anything came off, that seemed to remedy the problem. And, boy, that had to be some of the most INTENSE gaming I've ever experienced. I first played through a couple routines in Dance Aerobics, until I used up my mistake allowance and got a "game over", and as silly as it all is, I did actually get a decent workout from it. :) Then I did just a few events in Super Team Games and World Class Track Meet, and, man, I felt like I was gonna die after those, haha.

Other than that, I did some more brief testing. I attempted to play Tomcat Alley on Sega CD again (I've never been able to figure that game out, and I'm too lazy to read the manual), and I messed around with The Revenge of Shinobi and Shadow of the Beast II on Genesis.

After a somewhat disappointing day of getting the bad news that Adobe would not, in fact, be hiring me under contact I sat down at the cocktail for a few games. I had a couple decent games and was getting fairly relaxed before having an amazing run and setting a new personal high score, 41,180.

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/GalaxianCocktail-014.jpg

Got up to stage 13 as well, which is also my personal best. Sure it's not all that much but considering most people I know would be hard pressed to break 10,000 it really does feel great. Next goal is 45,000 then 50,000. After that I'm going to go for the big money run to 75,000 and then the long time goal of 100,000.

So I bought this yesterday for lots of money (and it was used!) my most expensive Xbox game and in a genre I don't really like. Anyway, it took ages to get a control scheme I could use (and the 3rd shooting control scheme in 3 xbox games for me, why don't they let you use the buttons to move anymore??). The first level was a great setpiece. Nothing else so far has lived up to the that. The game is too scripted in its walk to checkpoints before anything changes approach and the graphics aren't anywhere near as good as I thought they would be. And I don't particularly like FPS games anyway.
