I'm pretty proud of myself. Since I've yet to nail down my next game, I've continued to play a bit of Star Fox here and there on Super Nintendo, and with some practice (more than for Path 1 but still not that much), I managed to beat Path 2. I guess I could call myself a pretty good Star Fox player now. I'd have to get great to beat Path 3, though, haha. I know I've been waffling with this game all along, but I really don't expect to beat Path 3. I've played it a little and got up to the boss of stage 4. I hated that rotating room boss even on Path 1, so that's probably going to be my sticking point (even if I got past it, Macbeth looks like hell). Fortuna was a really neat stage, though; I'm glad I got to play that one.

In 2009, I was playing during weeks with my firends good old Diablo 2, in 2010 we ended up tired of dealing with patches screwing up our progress. After finishing the last chapter at"hell difficulty level", I've decided to stop playing and try something else.

In 2010, after Diablo 2, I've played D&D Online for a month. I've kinda like it at first, but I was bored after a certain level.

And this year, 2011, I've played Champions Online "free to play", a super-hero type game, during 3 months and then stopped entirely... even if it was fun to costum a character and fighting a bunch of various bad guys, farming during days to finaly get blue prints that needs even more farming of the same things and so on isn't making me feel like a champion.

For now, I'm playing Minecraft, since someone gave me a giftcode. I've get bored of the solo player mode quickly, and the multiplayer mode is ok because I'm playing with friends that don't screw up things I'm building. The problem of sandbox games like Minecraft dealing with your own goals, and also the number of friends who want to play with you. The generated worls are incredibly big and I was usually playing with someone who always want to start another world because he gets bored and don't like to travel during days to start again simply elsewhere. And now, my friends are playing Terraria, leaving me pretty much alone playing Minecraft... which is kinda sad considering that they insisted to make me play with them on their servers in the first place.

This is a video of me showing a few things I've made in Minecraft.

That's all about modern games I've played since 2009, for the rest I'm trying to continue my ColecoVision passion either in real life and in the Internet with forums and Youtube... very time consuming.

Anyway, I had fun playing a few modern games lately, and if anybody wants me to play another game, make your suggestion. For now, I'm playing Minecraft but will probably stops if none of my friends play it back again this week or so. Is it just me or it's more fun watching someone else playing Minecraft than actually playing it?

Saving Path 3 in Star Fox for another day, I decided to start up my next game, also on Super Nintendo, and it's an experience that I'm sure many gamers would be envious of - I'm playing The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for the first time. That's not to say I haven't been exposed to the game plenty between family and friends loving it and playing it around me, but I've never really sat down and seriously watched someone play. Only a few bits and pieces have stuck out in my mind, and nothing of real significance, more like what a couple of the early bosses look like and such, so the puzzle-solving and exploring is basically all me. I suppose maybe some of the magic is lost on me, having already played Link's Awakening and Ocarina of Time, which are so heavily based on ALttP, so I have to keep reminding myself that all of these little things that I take for granted as being Zelda staples, like the chickens for example, started here. They really ran with the basics laid out by the original Zelda and went wild. So far I just got the Master Sword, defeated Agahnim, and entered the Dark World.

I'm up to the boss of the third level of the Dark World in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on Super Nintendo. I got up to him too close to death, so I wasn't able to beat him (I actually beat level 2 with just one heart remaining and no faeries left; that was intense). I'll just have to quickly load up on faeries and get back there. I think I'm doing pretty good on collecting stuff since I have most of my menu filled up now, and I've also gone through a boatload of rupees to increase my max bomb and arrow amounts.

I'm right on the cusp of beating The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on Super Nintendo, with Ganon waiting for me in the pyramid. I've collected everything in the game (well, unless I missed some rupee chests or such), but I got a little help from my fiance and a little more help from an FAQ. Seems my sticking point was when stuff was on little ledges on Death Mountain. I had missed the Staff of Byrna and the heart piece that requires you to warp to the Light World from a little ledge halfway through completing Turtle Rock. I missed a couple other heart pieces that required warping (including the one out in the open in Lake Hylia, doh), and I missed what should probably be the first heart piece gotten in the game, haha (in the well of Kakariko, once you have bombs). And assuming it was just a money-making game, I never bothered with the random chest opening game. Heh, maybe I blew through the game a little too fast missing these things, but I did solve and find most everything on my own. I didn't feel like retracing my steps across both overworlds, especially considering I never had the opportunity to figure out 100% of the game on my own regardless, having watched other people play it prior.

Like I posted in the games beaten in 2011 topic, I polished off The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on Super Nintendo. I found the final battle a bit annoying since the only real challenge comes from getting knocked off and having to start all over, but I guess when you have a whole slew of hearts and four bottles of potions, that's about the only way they could make it difficult. All in all, though, I'm a little surprised by the number of times I actually lost in the game. I was under the impression that it was extremely easy, but it's actually a fair difficulty. Nothing like the previous Zelda games, of course, but also a far cry from Ocarina of Time in which I'm not sure if I ever died at all (although I did find some of the puzzles in that game tricky, more so than these, but maybe you can chalk that up to experience).

Now that I've completed the first five Zelda games (the most important ones in my book), I'm not sure which I'd say is my favorite. ALttP and Link's Awakening are pretty interchangeable, but I think I prefer Link's Awakening because I find the world more interesting and charming, the map more useful, and the puzzles are more taxing. I think that may be a reflection on the fact that I played Link's Awakening first, though. It is quite derivative of ALttP, so had I played Zelda 3 first, I very well could've chosen that as the better game for being original. As for the others, I think the first three all serve their purposes and could be my favorite depending on what I wanted at any given moment - the first if I want pure exploration, the second if I want pure combat and challenge, and the third (or Link's Awakening) if I want a more story-driven, directed adventure with more clever dungeon designs. Ocarina of Time, while very good, wasn't quite as enjoyable for me. Regardless, though, I'm not gonna go ga-ga for any of the games, saying that ALttP is the best game ever/best SNES game ever or anything like that. ALttP, like the other Zelda games, is a great, solid adventure, but there are still other adventure games I hold in higher regards.

Well I'm going to put Episodes of Liberty City on the side for right now, I'm kind of GTA'd out and will continue it some other time. Right now I'm really into Fall Out: New Vegas and for whatever reason I'm enjoying it a lot more than Fallout 3. I also started an Evil playthough for Infamous, Infamous 2 carries the save file over and I lost my old one when my PS3 died, I figured I'd give the game another go.

For my next game, I decided to go with Banjo-Kazooie on Nintendo 64, another pretty big-name game that I've never played. Sometimes I wonder what the hell I was doing during the N64's time, buying junk like Quest 64 yet skipping over Banjo-Kazooie. It's really odd because I adored Rare during the SNES, but I basically ignored them on N64, even though for the rest of the world Rare got even bigger yet. I guess there must've been something about the look of their 3D games that just didn't grab me. And truth be told, there is something about the characters in Banjo-Kazooie that strikes me as unlikable, but it's still a great-playing game. Well, I also really don't care for the music (Kirkhope was such a massive downgrade from Wise), and the controls and camera annoy me on occasion. It's not as tight as Super Mario 64, but it's not terribly far off. One thing that's surprising me is that it's quite puzzling. I expected it to be more straightforward action, but I've found myself stumped on a lot of things (and I'm not talking the Ice Key, heh). Anyway, I have over five hours in the game now, with over 50 jigsaw pieces collected.

I'm about 10 hours into Banjo-Kazooie on Nintendo 64 now, with roughly 75 jigsaw pieces. Figuring out how to access Rusty Bucket Bay had me stumped for a good long while, but I finally figured it out. Hopefully the stage doesn't stink. I like water levels in Rare's 2D games, but I'm not so crazy about them in 3D. Plus the swimming controls in this game irritate me. I've still ignored much of Clanker's Cavern. I have two other stages I'll have to return to also.

Argh, it's been hard to open this topic lately. Since my last post, I've beaten Banjo-Kazooie on Nintendo 64, getting all 100 jigsaw pieces and all 900 notes. I still want to find all of the Mumbo Tokens (I believe I missed 5) and the Stop 'n' Swop items just for the hell of it, but once I take care of that, I'll be done and have a 100% completed file.

Other than that, I've been playing a whole lot of PC-FX since I recently bought a big lot of PC-FX stuff. I've tried out Kishin Douji Zenki FX: Vajra Fight, Battle Heat, Team Innocent: The point of no return, Der Langrisser FX, Lunatic Dawn FX, Power Dolls FX, Choujin Heiki Zeroigar, Fire Woman Matoigumi, Pia Carrot e Youkoso!!, Chip-chan Kick!, Akazukin ChaCha: Osawagase Panic Race, Blue Breaker: Ken Yorimo Hohoemi o, Kokuu Hyouryuu Nirgends, Farland Story FX, Megami Tengoku II, and Anime Freak FX Vol. 1-4 and 6. I also tried out the demo/multimedia CDs: PCE Fan Special CD-Rom Vol. 2, PCE Fan Special CD-Rom Vol. 3, Super PCE Fan Deluxe Special CD-Rom Vol. 1, and Super PCE Fan Deluxe Special CD-Rom Vol. 2. While a couple didn't do much for me like Lunatic Dawn FX, overall it's mostly really fun, interesting stuff. I think the next game I'll seriously tackle will be a PC-FX game, since I've yet to play any to completion.

Recently picked up the Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition for sub $30, started playing as a mage. Starts off slow and I didn't like it much with my limited options but it actually picks up after the first couple of hours and has been a much more enjoyable game since. So far only five hours in and arrived at Lothering.

Playing the PS3 version and aside from the character models, the graphics are some of the worst I've seen this gen, so if you're a graphics whore you might just want to avoid this game as it looks PS2 quality.

Since my last post, I've basically given up on Banjo-Kazooie on Nintendo 64. I've done every last little thing in the game, even Bottles' secret jigsaw puzzles, but I'm still missing one measly, lousy Mumbo Token. I really wanted a perfect 100% file, but even with carefully using an FAQ to scour the game, I'm still short. I even watched Youtube videos for the tokens too. I spent a good couple hours or more hunting for my missing tokens, so at this point, enough is enough. If I ever want them all, I think it would be easier to replay the game and make sure I always leave a stage with a multiple of 5, rather than wait till the end of the game and have no clue where the missing ones could be.

Moving on from that, I started up Farland Story FX on PC-FX. I had a different PC-FX game in mind for my first to complete, but my mood changed and I got the urge to play a strategy RPG. I can't even remember the last time I beat a strategy RPG (unless you count Valkyrie Profile on DS, but I don't). I was in the mood for an older, relatively simple one, rather than the bloated ones from the last couple generations of systems. Farland Story FX works well enough since it's easy to figure out and it's not particularly difficult, so hopefully I can breeze through relatively quickly. I'm up to the 7th battle so far, and I've built up a decent sized army.

I'm up to, I believe, the 11th battle in Farland Story FX on PC-FX. The game is starting to get a bit boring, between the brain-dead AI and the slow pace of the battles. Of course, I went into it not wanting an especially difficult strategy RPG, but that's because I wanted one that wouldn't take forever. Even with the lack of challenge, Farland Story's battles take a long time, and most of that time is probably spent just plodding my army around the field, trying to reach where I need to go. The fact that this is two games in one is probably to its detriment, since I'm nearly done with what would be the first game, but I'm not even half way through this combined game. If I was nearly done, I probably wouldn't be making these complaints, but I'm not looking forward to so many more battles ahead of me.

Don't get me wrong, though, it's still a solid, nice strategy RPG; it's just starting to wear out its welcome. I can still see why it spawned a large series, and for those that aren't ready for a big challenge or a lot of complexity, it could be a good introduction to the genre. It's just not a shining example of the genre like a Fire Emblem, Shining Force, Langrisser, etc.

Holy cow, stage 13 in Farland Story FX on PC-FX was absolutely ridiculous. Like I've said, this game is painfully easy, but the boss of the 13th stage, an evil queen, is so stupid that I was starting to think it was impossible for me to beat her. See, she recovers 30 HP every turn (with 150 as her max), most of my characters were doing 1 HP damage to her, and the topper is that she'd almost always use a move (which includes every time I would attack because it's one of those strategy RPGs where there's always a counterattack if within range) that made a hand a la Zelda appear that would grab the character and drop him/her off somewhere else randomly on the field. Considering how needlessly big the fields are, that means the character is usually out of the picture for a long time. Since I recently got a charge attack for the hero Arc, which takes two moves to perform (one to charge, one to attack; but with the girl that gives a second move to one character, I could do both in one turn), I could do a decent 40 damage, along with whatever piddly damage I could get out of the others before being teleported away, but it got to the point where it seemed like she wouldn't use any attack but the hand on Arc. By the time Arc was back up to her, the damage was already gone.

I was going nuts on this battle, but my fiance and I ultimately decided that I should send someone to the shop. Even though the names are in kanji, I figured out what the non-healing items did, and I bought a huge mass of the items that appear to permanently increase attack by 5. I maxed Arc out at 99 and maxed out another character. Even maxed, the other character only did something like 24 damage, while Arc did 115. I then swarmed in with my other characters and whittled down the remaining 9. Boy, that was quite the accomplishment. I don't know if there was something I didn't get because the game is in Japanese or if I screwed something up in how I've been playing, but I'm glad to be past that. I believe the 14th battle is what would be the last of the first game, and I hope the boss isn't quite as stupid. I believe things reset for the 15th, with most of the party disappearing and such, so hopefully it's back to reasonably easy and quick battles.

Dang, Farland Story FX on PC-FX is giving me grief again, now on the 20th stage. After I beat what was essentially the first game, I got a renewed vigor to play this game, since the battles returned to be relatively easy and, more importantly, short. By the 20th stage, my army is starting to inflate again, but it's still not bad. However, I cleared every enemy on the field, and for some reason the boss isn't appearing. I don't know if there's something special I have to do or if I encountered some weird glitch. Based on what little out there I could look up, it doesn't seem like there's some special requirement to the stage, but it's hard to say. If it is a glitch, thank goodness I have a save from turn 1 of the stage, although repeating the entire stage isn't exactly appealing to me, especially if it ended up not helping.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii) - I dont have the best memory for remembering the story clearly. Its definitely challenging and i really like the battle save option, because you dont have to kill time if you lose a character. Im up to the 2nd chapter and the 2nd (3rd including prologue) mission. It will be interesting to see how they connect the Dawn Brigade and the old crew (Ike, Elyncia etc).

Dragon Warrior III (NES) - I decided a while ago to go through all the Dragon Warriors, the original certainly did test my patience, but mainly cause i was near the end, then made another file on a cartridge copy. A drastic improvement in diversity from the second. Im up to the part where you go inside the volcano after feeding a sword into it. My nes is burrowed so this ones on the back burner.

I finally polished off Farland Story FX for PC-FX late last night. I ended up replaying the 20th stage, and everything progressed fine that second time so I'm assuming I did encounter some kind of glitch. Nothing was much of an issue past that point, though. I was a little worried about Eleanor taking over as the lead character for the 24th battle, considering her level was still so low, but I was able to use my other characters for most of the dirty work. I was also concerned about fighting the queen from the 13th stage again on the 23rd, but even though she still had all of the same moves, including the teleporting hand, she didn't abuse the hand quite as much and I had more characters able to do decent damage this time. Funny how that 13th battle was by far harder than any other. The funny thing is that even though I beat the game, I never once promoted any of my characters. Granted, around half of the cast joins at their final class, and the non-promoted characters did get progressively weaker compared to the others and the enemies, but the game was so easy that it didn't matter, haha. I blame Shining Force for making me always put off promoting until I absolutely have to or when the character's level is maxed out.

I just picked up Hawks 2 last night for PS3 and I'm loving it so far. The first Hawks was an ok game but being a big Ace Combat fan it paled in comparison with my favorite series.

The sequel however feels more like its own game and less like a shallow comparison to the ACE series. I am enjoying the occasional UAV surveillance and AC13 gunship modes that break up gameplay. The with basic (terrorists to russian ultranationalists to nukes :p) but consistent story line where instead of "buying" new aircraft every mission to fly, you play as different pilots with different nationalities in appropriate planes. (similar to COD4 character switching)

The biggest improvement is the VAST de-emphasis of the Assistance off mode, actually had to run across it by accident because it was never mentioned in the campaign mode. You can now actually stall your plane without switching to "OMGcameraMichalBaymanuvers!!!?!?!" mode which is the single biggest improvement over its predecessor. I have yet to play online or any of the alternative play modes but so far I'm really enjoying the game so if you like the Ace Combat series, check it out.

Still playing Pier Solar on and off but ran into a puzzle I suspect I have to run through an entire dungeon to fix and I reallllly don't want to do that.

Started to play The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, right now I'm playing through Escape from Butcher Bay and I'm really enjoying it. If I had known Starbreeze Studio had made the game, I wouldn't have had it sitting on my shelf for so long, I absolutely loved The Darkness and I instantly recognized some of the things they carried over to it.

I'm also playing through Crystalis, or what I like to refer to it as Grindalis, since you can't do much until you grind in a gave until a certain level. I know plenty of other games that do this, but damn it all if it feels like I have to level up for every other screen because the area has enemies I can't kill in it.

I know plenty of other games that do this, but damn it all if it feels like I have to level up for every other screen because the area has enemies I can't kill in it.

If you're encountering enemies you can't kill, it's probably because you're not using the right element against them. That's how the game goes. You'll encounter invincible enemies all the time, unless you want to constantly switch your swords (well, you should sometimes, but I wouldn't bother for every enemy), and you'll encounter resistant enemies prior to getting the type of sword needed for them too. I think the bosses may have level requirements, but it's very unlikely that you'll reach them without having already hit the requirement. Really, the game doesn't need any grinding for the most part. I recommend gaining a level or two at the very beginning of the game, but that's about it. For the rest of the game you can just kill enemies as you encounter them basically.

Anyway, as for my own playing, I did mess with Farland Story FX on PC-FX just a tiny bit more, to use the code to view all the FMV again and to load up the final battle and see what I missed by not promoting my characters. For the most part, not much changes with a promotion. Most characters simply gain access to weapons they couldn't use previously.

For my next game, I decided to start up Castlevania: Bloodlines on Genesis. I can't even remember the last time I played through a Genesis game, not unless you count Monster World IV which I played via the PlayStation 2 collection anyway. Over the last two, three years, I've wanted to fill in more of my Castlevania gaps. I've beaten most of the series up to and including Circle of the Moon (and I don't really give a damn about the later titles). I beat the first Castlevania and Lament of Innocence for the first time in recent years, so now it's about time I do Bloodlines. Prior to this, I don't think I got any farther than the second or third stage. I think part of the reason I put this one off is that I was always a little bothered by the limited continues. So far I have stage 3 passwords for both characters, although I lost a continue with John Morris and should redo his stage 2.

Yesterday: Punch Out!! (Wii)

Yeah...the game that is TWO years old now! I have been slowly (but steadily) getting through the opponents. I had recently (finally!) beat Soda Popinski, leaving me with Bald Bull, Super Macho Man, and Mr. Sandman. Bald Bull wiped the floor with me the other day, so I was determined to beat him. After beating him, Super Macho Man was a challenge but not as bad as I thought. (I do like the fact you don't get game over after losing 2 or 3 times like the NES game, but it is murder on my record!) Mr. Sandman beat me again...and again...and again...and some more...I got the pattern down at last and beat him! I decided to tackle the enhanced mode after. I lost to Glass Joe....I lost...to...Glass Joe. (Good thing I wasn't using the Power Glove!)

Today: Wii Fit Plus (Wii)

I did the lap around the island in an attempt to get fit again. That was definitely rewarding, but I'm not used to it!

I'm making steady progress in Castlevania: Bloodlines on Genesis. I have a stage 4 password with no continues used for John Morris and a stage 6 (final stage) password for Eric with one continue used (and I think of all of the extra lives of the current continue, so if I can't beat the game with this one, I should restart from my good password for stage 5).

This sure is a weird Castlevania game. Not because of the superficial reasons that other people give, like how the items were replaced with different things that function the same or how the game takes place across Europe, but rather how playing the game feels like 1cc'ing a game. Shmups fanatics may be crazy about that play style, but I've never been into it. It's like they tried to squeeze two conflicting concepts together - a game with passwords so you don't have to start from scratch and the concept of playing a game from the beginning until you run out of lives and continues and have to start over. At the very least, I wish they had given a third option on the continue screen, one in which you can opt to retry the stage from the beginning with the same lives/continues you started it with. It's a pain that, if you don't want to lose your continues or lives, you need to go back to the title screen and reenter your password.

It's also strange in that it almost feels like a boss rush with little snippets of level design in between. Other Castlevania games have a few mid-bosses and such, but with Bloodlines, you're basically guaranteed AT LEAST two bosses per stage. Konami definitely appears to have taken a different approach with the Genesis, like they were trying to live up to the Genesis's arcade-style reputation, going for games that emphasize atmosphere less and more focus on pure balls-to-the-wall action. Like comparing Contra III to Hard Corps. Not that Bloodlines doesn't have style, and the level design does go all out in the final stage, what with the fractured view section and the upside-down part, not to mention the cool effects in stage 3. But, yeah, I've never been too crazy for boss rush modes, especially boss rush final stages because it just feels like the developers are being lazy when they reuse a bunch of previous bosses (sorry Mega Man series). But these complaints aside, I'm still really digging Bloodlines, and what Konami pulled off here is very impressive .

I've beaten Castlevania: Bloodlines on Genesis with both John Morris and Eric now, using the default settings. I ended up starting John over from scratch, in order to get through the first four stages without losing much of any lives. I'm pretty good at the game now and can handle most everything comfortably. It's a shame that I can't see the full endings unless I beat the game twice more on Expert mode with both characters, though, but to heck with that for now. That can be something to tackle down the road. Overall a very satisfying entry in the Castlevania series, even if it's a bit more of a pain to get into given the limited continues.

I didn't play anything for a few days there, but now I've started up Last Imperial Prince on PC-FX. I was intending for this to be the first PC-FX game I'd play to completion, but then the strategy RPG bug bit. I'm glad to get to it now, though, especially as it's the only game of its kind on the system and, unlike Farland Story, it's a PC-FX exclusive. So far I just got to the first town, so only about half an hour in. I've played even farther than that when I first tried it out, but no rush. One thing I just discovered that's beyond awesome is that the game has two versions of its soundtrack, both CD and PSG. Considering that some tracks are a little grating on the CD version, it's very welcome to switch to PSG.

I have a few hours logged into Last Imperial Prince on PC-FX now. I'm getting a little annoyed with the game because there's so much going back and forth in towns to trigger long series of events just to progress. Considering how fast the dungeon-style areas and battles go, it's just too much NPC crap. Granted, this is the PC-FX here, a system that pushes story as a selling point, so I shouldn't be surprised. I just hope that as I get farther in the game, the gameplay sections will be longer and more satisfying. I know I'm right before the final gameplay section before the end of Chapter 1, so hopefully it'll be more interesting than the previous forests.

I have over 10 hours in Last Imperial Prince on PC-FX now. The balance of dialogue and action has gotten better, and some of the battles have gotten pretty tough (got my first Game Over, twice on the same battle). I switched back to the CD soundtrack, but, honestly, the composition is pretty weak for both. Some real nice graphics, though. I'm almost at the end of Act 2, and if it's anything like the transition from the first to second, I think they'll cut me off from the old areas. It's actually a good thing because it breaks the game into digestible, bite-sized portions. Right when I feel like there's getting to be too many towns and NPCs to deal with, the act ends, and they're gone. My fiance is convinced that the developers must be fighting game fans, since there's a Samurai Shodown-style fireball, a guy that looks like Galford, and the succubi attack like Morrigan from Darkstalkers. I could believe it, especially considering the interesting duel-style, one-on-one battle system. It's far from perfect, but this really is an interesting adventure game.

I'm a little bit into Act 4 in Last Imperial Prince on PC-FX now. Like I was predicting before, each act is its own separate piece of the game, which is great because the start of each act is nicely streamlined. I've been figuring out the magic system more, and it's really quite cool. Four gems, three slots on each character, and every combination (and order counts) produces a different spell. Quite a lot of variety, but I still barely touch the spells since fighting with the weapons is adequate enough.

I just started Act 5 in Last Imperial Prince on PC-FX, which is the final act, so hopefully I'll have the game wrapped up soon. I'm surprised it's lasted as long as it has, although I wouldn't have complained if they trimmed some of the dialogue event fat. One thing that's pretty annoying is that the game doesn't seem to be able to load from disc 2, so ever since I started Act 4, every time I turn the system on I have to swap discs, wait for everything to load and get to where I can select my file, then swap back to the second disc. Now I understand the gag disc switch screen about "throwing" the second disc in. After switching several times, you really do want to just chuck it in. :P
