Pirates of Dark Water, Mega Drive, got to the last boss but he's invunrable, this game could have been so much better if it was more straight forward. 5/10

The MAsk SNES, 4/10 it's terrible, awful but I still played it untill I got to bubba the prison boss he is unbeatable, it does have some nice qualities about it though, but it's way too hard.

Spiderman 32X I finally beat this game yeah it was short but there was something about it, even if it was kinda crappy. 5.7/10 the spiderman nerd in me gives it extra points.

Tempo 32X man the first stage made my eyes want to bleed it is quite charming though just something about it I'll give it a 7/10

Pizza POP NES, yeah it was a cool mario type game 7/10

Dahna - Megami Tanjou Mega Drive 8/10, wow it's awesome like golden axe meets rygar, it's a bit too hard though but the atmosphere is so cool this is what 16 bit gaming is all about, love, love, love this game.......

Captain Planet and the Planeteers Mega Drive, 3/10 terrible, terrible game my memories have been soilet damn you planet burn in hell, can't belive I got suckered into this one, damn you king leopold73 and your little dog.

I guess I spoke too soon in my last post because I'm still playing my Game Boy Advance SP. We had a little more warm weather, and then one of my cats got into a fight and pretty banged up so I wanted to stay with him until we could take him to the vet. So I started the second Game Boy game I've been planning to play for a long time - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX. I've never played the color version before, but I have played through the original at least a couple times. I'm sure it's been over 10 years since the last time, though. It's fun to finally replay something since I usually have so little gaming time that I try to cram in as many new games as I can. It's also interesting because, despite that I feel an overall familiarity with the game, I don't remember so many of the details. Since I've already done everything in the past, I printed out the locations of heart pieces, seashells, and photos, so I don't have to bother with that junk. So far I've beaten the second dungeon.

Densetsu no Stafi 4 (DS): Finally imported one of these games two weeks ago. I really enjoyed Super Princess Peach, then went online and researched how that particular TOSE development team also made the Stafi series. Unfortunately, while Stafi 4 is charming, the overall game play experience feels pretty average. I'm currently in the final area.

Burnout: Dominator (PSP): This game is like crack, it's also my first Burnout experience so I don't know how it compares to other entries in the series. Currently have 31% of the games challenges completed.

Streets of Rage 3 (GEN): I still hate Sega of America's butchering of this game (most notably the absurd difficulty changes), but it's still just so much fun. Currently trying to 1CC the game with Axel on Normal Mode, default lives setting. My attempts so far have been futile, with my best having me reach the midpoint of Stage 5.

Run Saber (SNES): Just started this lovely Strider inspired game up again. This time I'm going for the standard default settings 1CC.

So I tried out another game to see if its my PS2 thats broke, not something wrong with my copy of Metal Slug Anthology... and that game froze on one of the initial loading screens. Dammit. It appears my PS2 is broke :(

I don't know what to do about it. And not sure if/when I'm going to replace it. I've only just bought Metal Slug Anthology and always need Outrun (although less since my save file got deleted). Not to mention the ability to play Katamari.

So, anyway, this weekend I played:

Project Gotham Racing 4 - Xbox 360
Did a few of the motorbike achievements and then did some more of the career mode. Its going to take forever to get to rank 1 I think, on about 18 now.

GTA 4 - Xbox 360
Did LOADS of this. The missions are getting a bit good and epic now. I've also unlocked the 3rd island. So, i'm about 45 hours in and about 48% complete.

Earth Defense Force 2017 - Xbox 360
Haven't played this in ages... it was great fun. Did about 10 levels, another 10 to go. Some of them have been rock hard and some dead easy. Plus there has been new enemy types, woo!

How enjoyable is Stafi without knowing Japanese? I've been interested in the series for a while now.

The game is a pretty straightforward platformer. There is a routine story blurb before each stage, where some character needs you to do something for them. You don't have to understand Japanese to get it though, because the stages have a map displayed on the lower screen, with an exclamation point marking your destination. Also, throughout the game there are sign posts that show you how to execute Stafy's (and Stappi's) basic and advanced moves. Sure, you can't read them, but it also displays the DS's control buttons showing you visually what to press.

You won't understand the storyline, and I don't know of any translation FAQ's yet, but the game is an enjoyable platformer, and easy to get through without any knowlege of the Japanese language.

The replay factor is another story however. Once you finish the game, these special doors in each stage that were inaccessible during the first play through now become accessible (they lead to extra areas to explore and collect items in each stage). They ask you a riddle, and you have to answer them by showing specific cards that are now distributed in the levels, requiring replay the stages and collect them. Luckily, there is a specific FAQ on this extended play through option over at GameFAQ's.

I recommend picking Stafi 4 up at Play-Asia.com before it goes out of stock. It's been reduced to a generous $24 and change.

Anyways, in keeping with my recently collecting philosophy, been playing another good game that I bought, played once, and forgot about:

DC - Gundam Side Story: 0079
Only on the 4th chapter now but am having lots of fun with this one. Also watching a little bit of the First Gundam movies every night so I can really get "into" it, heh. People have said this is one of the better Gundam simulations and I would have to agree. Not only action oriented but quite tactical as well!

Burnout: Dominator is awesome I know...because I own both PS2 & PSP versions, if you like that then checkout Burnout: Legends for PSP, thank me later because if you thought Dominator was good then you ain't seen nothing yet as Legends is brilliant, could be basically Burnout 3: Takedown on a handheld. If you own a PS2 or Xbox or 360 checkout Burnout: Revenge, Burnout: Paradise...also on PS2 the first Burnout & Burnout 2: Point of Impact are very fun also along with the masterpiece Burnout 3: Takedown which you can buy for either PS2 or Xbox.

My wife came across a free TV, and old Daewoo color TV. Not quite console, but it's 25" and has only the coax input, so its pretty old. This led to me pulling out the old NES and SNES. Well, that, and I got a copy of Mega Man 4 finally! I pulled out MM2, 3 and 4, and played like crazy!

Also, busted out the SNES and started on Actraiser last night. I LOVE that game! Zelda: Link to the past is on for tonight.

Got this out after a good few years without and plugged it through my guitar effects. I got it out to use the little drone guys but ended up recording some other things swathed in effects which I layered some guitar drones over.

Crush Roller - NGPC
First of my 2 new NGPC games. And both use the cross rings, which restricts movement to 4-directions. Perfect. This is a fun little maze game with many branches. I completed one and will definitely come back for some others. There are two enemies on screen at once and one of them is much faster than you. I had great fun.

Pac-Man - NGPC
Thought I'd just DigitalSpace playing this one too. Unlike a lot of people on these forums, I never grew up with pac-man (but did play some other (i guess freeware or shareware) maze games on various computers, including a nice green and black Compaq portable) and there is just something right about this game. It is so empowering to suddenly turn the tides on the ghosts and just having one screen and no continues or goals make it feel great. Reminds me a lot of Geometry Wars, which is probably more of a compliment to Geometry Wars aping the old arcade game style. Anyway, as a complete Pac-Man beginner, what sort of score should I be aiming for? I'm really bad at videogames.

I'm still plugging away at The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX on my Game Boy Advance SP. I'm nearly done with the 7th dungeon, Eagle's Tower, now. It's great to finally conquer my childhood "demons". This dungeon and the 6th one gave me SO much trouble as a kid. The first time I played the game, I got painfully stuck on several occasions, and I even called up the Nintendo Power counselors at least a couple times. Even with that help, I absolutely abused the glitch that sends Link to the opposite side of a room. And then even on my second playthrough, I wasn't getting stuck but I was still frequently using the glitch. It's not in the DX version, but I wouldn't use it even if it was. Now I'm doing everything right, and it's very satisfying to finally say I've played it for real. While these last couple dungeons have given me a little grief, it's amazing how much easier they are for me now.

I'm currently taking a break from playing Contra, it's 3:45am and I can't bring myself to turn off my super famicom. I think it's because I'm on the final stage and it feels like it would be a waste to quit now. The problem is, the stupid brain boss keeps killing me! I always have the same problem - the harder I try, the less chance I have of defeating it. The boss form before the brain with the extending arm things is ok, but I keep making stupid mistakes with the brain.

Well, I polished off The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX on my Game Boy Advance SP. Another one bites the dust this summer. I'm out of Game Boy games to play until summer vacation is over, so time to move on to a different system.

I also played a tiny bit of Super Mario Bros. 3 on NES just to test out my system. For some reason, I've been having big problems with it out of nowhere lately, and I opened it up for the first time ever to clean the connectors. Unfortunately, it made almost no difference. After a lot of tries, I got SMB3 to work, but it reset half way through the first stage and started blinking again. A few more tries and I got it working again, and then I was able to play through the first world and the first stage of the second before I decided to turn it off.

I forgot to mention in my last post that I tried out a couple recent DS acquisitions: Elite Beat Agents and Magical Starsign. I had some fun with both, but Elite Beat Agents was cracking me up. :)

Today was a PS2 day:

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Since I beat Yakuza the other day, I've been trying to beat other games I had started long ago and I hadn't touched this game since July 2006, so I'm lost and don't know where to go next. I'm only on the first chapter, so I'm loathe to check gamefaqs so I'll try again tomorrow before doing it.

Spider-Man: Friend or Foe - This is a pretty decent beat-em-up I got from Blockbuster for $5 during the recent sale. I'm glad I didn't pay much more than $5 since it's pretty basic, but on the bright side, one of my favorite Spider-Man characters, The Prowler, is one of the sidekicks in the game, so I can't complain.

NBA Hoopz - Hoopz/Showtime on the Dreamcast are among my favorite all-time Dreamcast games, so I had to buy this one when I found it for $3 at Gamestop. Yes, the graphics are jaggy and the default control scheme sucks, but it's something to play if you want to waste up a few minutes. Fouling for ball possession was always my favorite part of the series. I wish the old NBA Jam/Showtime/Hoopz formula would return instead that Ballers garbage that Midway releases nowadays.

Ive been playing halo 3, madden 09, and some rockstar table tennis, i also tried out turok on 360, i did not like it.

I dug out my Genesis from storage this past week and made some quality time for: Herzog Zwei, Ghoul's 'N Ghosts, Rambo III, Revenge of Shinobi...all of the early Genesis classics.

Damn, Herzog Zwei is an excellent game. 18 years later, and it's still fun as hell. I remember hyping it to all my friends at school back in 1990. A year later, I even pursuaded all the Genesis owners I knew in the Army to buy it. I think I'm single-handedly responsible for 20 or so sales of that game.
