In Star Ocean 1: First Departure on PSP, I decided to head back to Moore continent once again with my now full party. Along the way, I made sure to stop in every town for Private Actions. Back on Moore, I tackled the Mt. Metox secret cave again, and this time I was able to just barely squeak by some battles. I was still often dealing 0 damage, though, relying on skills to kick in to do some actual damage. Joshua helped a ton too between healing characters and casting offensive magic to stun the enemies and to do a nice chunk of damage. The battles really drained my party, though, and I'd get level ups after almost every single one. I was running back and forth between the dungeon and the town of Hot, trying to get my characters closer and closer to being able to seriously explore the dungeon, but I eventually ran out of Resurrection Bottles, got a Game Over, and decided I had to leave Moore until I at least restocked my items. So now I'm working my way over to Trop, which should trigger the crash of the spaceship on Moore, so I'll have an excuse to head back that way, anyway. I've also been delving into Item Creation more, mostly to unlock talents, which is surprisingly easy in this remake, even without music (still don't have that). It's great because I get 100 free skill points for every talent I unlock.

I also popped in PoPoLoCrois again and blew through the intro, but it was actually a different copy of the game I was testing. Believe it or not, I ended up with two copies of this game before I even owned a PSP.

I didn't leave the house today so I played a lot of PS2.

Soul Calibur III - I played through story mode once with Mitsurugi. The credit sequence is longer than the story mode!
Chulip - I started the game, and after meeting the girl of the main character's dreams, I couldn't figure out what to do next so I saved the game and quit.
Soldier of Fortune: Gold Edition - This version actually controls better than the Dreamcast version, but the disc is scratched and kept locking up.
Radiata Stories - I hadn't played this one in a few years, and I put about an hour into it before I got tired of Jack, the main character, kicking people and objects.
Gradius V - I set a new 2nd high score, even though I didn't get past the first level. This game is hardcore!

Finished worlds 3 and 4 and now halfway through world 5. I think this is going to be the first game I complete this year.

Ganbare Neo Poke-Kun - NGPC
After the excitement of him making me a game last time, its back to nothing...

Alien Scum - Phone
I downloaded this as it was free about a year ago when I got my phone and hated it. Its a Space Invaders style game but there are these missiles which go along the bottom of the screen meaning you only can use half the screen. However, this time I realised you can shoot them down before they reach the bottom and that you can place shields and shoot rockets. Its got a lot more enjoyable.

Alien Crush - PC Engine
Beat my high score.

More Brain Training - DS
Its been a long time but it was fun and I've still got 2 more games to unlock.

Tonight after work I played more PS2.

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja - I played through the first practice level that qualifies you for the first level on mission mode. I almost started the story mode, but I'll save that for later. I have to say this is the best Smash Bros. clone I have played so far.

Soul Calibur II - After playing SC III yesterday, I tried to do more mission mode on this one and didn't get past the last level I played when I saved back in 2006.

Timesplitters: Future Perfect - I played through the first level in story mode, which wasn't hard considering I had gotten pretty far in the Xbox version. The PS2 is more convenient and portable, so I'm more likely to play through this one.

New Super Mario Bros - DS
Up to halfway through World 6. This game is still incredibly frustrating. I did the ABC levels in World 5 also. Need to unlock and complete World 7 as well before tackling the final world.

Sonic Gems Collection - PS2

First up with Sonic The Fighters with its grammatically incorrect title. Played as Sonic and button-mashed my way through to the Metal Sonic. The rest were all easy, despite the fact that the new AM2 characters have weapons. I like the way the backdrops are all 3D versions of old Sonic stages. Metal Sonic was a right pain but eventually I beat him... only to discover you have only 15 seconds to defeat Robotnik, which I didn't quite manage. You only get one chance as well as he is a "bonus stage". So, it was game almost-complete. It only took 15 mins though so I guess I'll try again sometime.

Then I tried Game Gear Sonic 2 and got past the stupid minecart bit at the start which killed me the only other time i've tried it. This game suffers so much from being on the GameGear and is horrible. It moves fast and the screen moves badly and slowly and the control is off and you don't know where you are going to land and die.

So I tried another Game Gear game on the collection: Sonic Triple Trouble. Different control from the previous game but still bad. Got to this running along a train part which I got to last time I tried this and again I don't know what to do at the end and die. Which I was glad of because I really dislike these GameGear Sonic titles.

Ridge Racer - PS1
This arrived in the post yesterday. Its a nice package, double CD case, great full image cover, first PSX game number. The music is horrible and the graphics, well, sometimes its hard to tell where the edges are. And the handling, well, I just can't get used to it. Managed to beat the easy track then struggled on the medium one. After switching to internal view I did a lot better though. I still don't get how the handling works in this game but on internal view I think i can beat the next challenge.

Indeed it is a great little game, been playing it for years. In fact I have a blog post from 2005 about it (http://cyclictedium.blogspot.com/2005/10/game-called-n.html). LOL

I haven't been playing much for my own straight up enjoyment as of late sadly. I dropped a few quarters into Pole Position a couple days ago but that was it. I did play a good amount of Atari 2600 / VCS games this week but it was all for calibration and testing of a 2600 I recently AV modded (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=106124). During the calibration and long endurance testing I played...

Asteroids
Centipede
Dig Dug
Frogger
Grand Prix
Keystone Kapers
Mario Bros.
Midnight Magic
Mouse Trap
Ms. Pac-Man
Pitfall!
Pitfall II: Lost Caverns
Seaquest
Skiing
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - Death Star Battle
Venture
Yars' Revenge

All great games for testing color trueness - and simply great games any time. Spent the majority of the time playing Seaquest, Midnight Magic, and Mario Bros. Hmm.. looks like I did play quite a few games. ^^;

Aside from that I really should get back to Grandia III but I haven't found the time. I'll probably spend all of Friday apartment hunting with my girlfriend. Thusday needs to be spent working on my RTM submission, the deadline completely slipped my mind... I hate Donkey Kong 3. LOL

There are also some bishoujo PC games I recently came across that I need to go through... well, I need to complete one I'm about a third through right now (Gloria) before moving onto those. I think that's what'll take up Thursday after I go to sleep in a moment and get up in a few hours - my DK3 review and then finishing up Gloria.

Picked up a minty copy of Half-Life 2 for the original Xbox for $5.99. I realizied I never beat the first one, so I installed Steam and registered my old Half Life GOTY cd key....and whattya know, it allowed me to download Half-Life and it's expansion packs (Blue Shift, OpFor, etc.)

Soooo....I never beat the original Half-Life (got stuck) so I've been playing this game every night for a few hours all week. Oh yeah, I installed the HD pack, so now it is graphically on par with the PS2.

So far, so good. Half-Life is a lot of fun.

I just finished my first week of school of the new semester, so I'm back to having little time for gaming again. :( At least until summer rolls around.

I've been making a point to squeeze in time for Star Ocean 1: First Departure on PSP, though. I didn't make enough for myself to just relax last semester, so I'm trying to change that. So far so good, but things haven't really gotten rolling in school just yet so we'll see. I headed back to Moore to check out the crashed spaceship, and then slowly but surely I explored all of the Mt. Metox secret cave, but not all in one go obviously. I'm loaded up with a lot of great new equipment now, and I gained at least 10 levels for every character. After that, I went to all the towns again looking for more Private Actions, and I tackled more ranks in Tatoroy's arena. I got Ratix, Iria, and Cius all up to Rank A, but I'm still not powerful enough to beat it. I got much closer with Ratix, though. Then I finally headed over to the Van continent. In Ecdart, I got Milly to join up, and now I'm just doing a ton of Item Creation stuff because between the new skills and items available there's a lot to toy with. I bought all the musical instruments, learned the appropriate abilities, wrote every song, and unlocked the associated talents for a few characters. I'll see what other talents I can learn before I head over to the town of Ionis.

I'm also back to playing my Game Boy Advance SP at school, but I haven't been doing anything that I wasn't already playing at home. I played Centipede via Atari Anniversary Advance for a few minutes, but my heart wasn't really in it. I also played some more of Mortal Kombat I&II, and I'm still not having fun with it. :P

In Star Ocean 1: First Departure on PSP I unlocked a bunch more talents, and then I took Milly to every old town looking for Private Actions. I really liked the one in Portmis in which Milly and Iria are in the skill shop looking at books, and Iria tells Milly the story of Cinderella. Not the sissified Disney version either. I loved when Iria said the part about how the stepmother told her daughter to get a knife and cut off a bit of her foot to fit in the glass slipper, and the game plays this sudden dramatic sound and everyone in the room, including the skill shop owners and Ratix, get an exclamation point above their heads. Cracked me up. :) Anyway, I also played through some of the ranks in the arena with Milly, and then I headed back to Van. I completed Joshua's side quest up in the mountains for Foster, which is great because there's some great equipment there. Then I went over to Ionis, got Ronixis and Marvel to join up, and started to learn even more talents for them. :P Now I only have one character slot left, which I'll probably fill with Welch since she's new to the game.

So, played some 2player Retro Evolved and after a friend told me how exciting the Galaxies mode is so I finally tried it. Its awesome fun. Not so hardcore and pure and score attack based than Retro Evolved. Its all about keeping the multiplier high. So I'm trying to get a Gold medal on each level before moving on. On some levels this is really tough, especially this one level where you only have one life, right after you achieve silver, loads of enemies just appear. The inventiveness in this game has been pretty good so far. I'm excited to play more.

Currently playing Biker Mice from Mars. For SNES (I am playing it via emulation). It really is a stupid game, I was going through the list of ROMS I had on my HDD and it caught my attention. I started playing, and was about to throw down the controller, thinking it was a dumb game, then I got an upgrade to the bike, which made winning the races actually possible. So then I played for about another hour.

One thing I find odd about this game (besides the fact that the mice are from mars, and they ride bikes) is that there seems to be some sort of Snickers sponsorship. Yes, snickers the candy bar has ad's in the game, you can get a Snickers bar as a power up. Whenever someone wins a race the are shown holding a Snickers bar saying "even winners need a boost from Snickers" or some such line.

Really weird! I checked out the box art online, and ther is no Snickers logo on the front (back wasn't shown). Isn't Snickers part of the M&M MARS company?

Here are the highlights of the past two days:

Arctic Thunder (PS2) - As choppy as the animation is on this game, it reminds me a lot of Hydro Thunder, right down to the randomness of the wins, which is good. It's probably a lot better on Xbox, but it's cheaper on PS2.

Clubhouse Games (DS) - More billiards. The computer cheats like a mofo if it's down to the nine ball at the end of the game.

Prey (360) - This game seems to have an interesting story, but I haven't gotten far enough into it. I've only acquired the wrench weapon and it isn't that much fun.

Radiata Stories (PS2) - I thought this game would suck, but the party recruitment makes it interesting enough for me to keep waiting for the next cutscene. The combat seems to be improving. I am getting tired of the main character kicking everything to get items, though.

Been playing Metroid Zero Mission. About 5 hours in and just got to Tourian (I think its called) where theres the floating Metroid things that look like jellyfish.

I'm using up health quick and I have several unknown items I can't use, did I miss a item that would enable me to use that stuff here or should I just keep at it?

New Super Mario Bros - DS
Levels 7-5 and 7-6 confused me as I beat both but couldn't move on to 7-7, then i did one of them again and died and then the train ride was over.

The Last Blade 2 - Dreamcast
New game time! And time to set my Dreamcast back up on my big TV, which is neccesary as this game doesn't support VGA. Also its the first time I've used my arcade stick for a fighting game! Anyway, I tried out 3 characters (there are far too many in this game) and couldn't get past stage 4 with any of them. I'm also not used to using a stick. The forward, down, down-forward moves I'm bad at. The game looks lovely though and has great backdrops and a great style and sounds. I might need to read up about it.

Ridge Racer - PlayStation
Spent longer than I wanted to but defeated the mid-level track. I've got the hang of the handling now and the game feels really good. Somehow I only came second when 2 out of 3 of my lap times were my best ever. I'm ready for the extended track now. This game is fun. I much prefer racing games to fighting games, maybe I should stop getting fighting games.

Shanghai - PC Engine
Got 3 new PC Engine games last night too but just tried this one out. It looks just like the version on the old DP Forums Arcade that I was addicted to! Its a bit harder to take in the whole board on my 32" telly and also its lower resolution and suffers from PC Engine moving about slowness but could be just want I wanted. So i cleared the set and you get some long animation of a dragon head. There seem to be lots of options upon pressing Select that are in Japanese and I have no clue about. Menu upon sub-menu. Oh well.

On your Gameboy Color? Was that released or is it a ROM?

I'm still playing Zelda: Minish Cap on GBm. I've beat all the castles, have a complete collection of figures, have all the gear, but I still need two more heart pieces, have to find the last rock breaker guy, and trade five more Kinstones. (No hints, please...I'll figure it out.)
