Just recently got back from my family vacation in Anaheim. The two games I've most recently been playing:
PSP - Lumines
Like all puzzle games, I'm a bit too slow and get stumped quick. I've tried the 60 second time attack so many times and always get stuck at 39 deletes tops. I've unlocked quite a few skins from challange mode and vs cpu mode.
PS2 - Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne
Quite a deep system this game's got. Been enjoying the fusing of demons in the dark cathedral. I finished the first two levels of the main side quest dungeon, and now the four horsemen are on my ass. What's really annoying is they camp save points and try to attack you as SOON as you step outside. The White Rider was kicking my ass mercilessly before I left on vacation until I found an insanely great strat. After utilizing a void expel skill, and a character that drains fire, as well as ingesting fire draining magatma there was nothing he could do. The final nail in the coffin was using his summoned creatures "Stone" weakness so they got paralyzed and couldn't be resummoned. Boss murdered.

I've had a bit of a break from Bloodlines, but I reckon I'll be back on it soon. Anyway, I've been playing:
Bari Arm - Mega CD NTSC/J
Winds of Thunder - PC Engine NTSC/J
Pulstar - MVS
Sengoku Legends 2001 - MVS
Last Blade - MVS
I'm actually quite impressed with Bari Arm. It felt slow at first, but I've adjusted now and I'm really enjoying the game. I have to admit, I let out a massive cheer the first time my ship transformed into a mobile suit. I can get to the last level on 1 credit now, so I'm gonna go for the 1cc tonight.
I'm still getting done down on Winds. I can get to the final boss, but he does me everytime. Oh well. I will have my revenge.
Pulstar is just fabulous. The anime intro is amazing. The whole game is just fab. Ultra R-Type Turbo +.
Sengoku 3 is quality. Certainly the best scrolly beat 'em up on the system and great fun.
Only had a quick go on Last Blade but I'll surely be giving it a good thrashing tonight.

Twinbee 3 - NES
Quite a nice game, glad I'm playing it on the DS though, I think NES graphics and sound would be horrible. I can see why some of you really get into the Twinbee games, I might play a bit more
Psyvariar 2 - Dreamcast
It seems like the first run I do on a shmup that I haven't played in months is always one of my best at getting further - probably because I'm not quite so sure whats coming and so aren't as concentrated on getting a high score
Le Mans 24 Hours - Dreamcast
So I finally beat the Rookie GT cup on expert. Woo! 2 wins and then a last place which didn't matter. Bring on the next cup!
Classic stuff, I can't say - it is a secret, until June 3rd.... ;)

Twinbee 3 - NES
Quite a nice game, glad I'm playing it on the DS though, I think NES graphics and sound would be horrible. I can see why some of you really get into the Twinbee games, I might play a bit more
Maybe I'm just behind the times with these modern handhelds, but how are you playing TwinBee 3 on a DS? o_O If it's some kind of emulation, how would that change the graphics and music any?
But yeah, it is a very good game. :) I think the graphics and sound are pretty nice, but then, for its time, Konami could've done better (came out around the same time as Castlevania 3). I played it for the first time not too long ago myself, and when I beat it, I played through it almost two times straight after that. I'm not one to do that kind of thing, so playing through it nearly three times in a row really says something for me. o_O The difficulty doesn't seem to change after beating it, though, unlike Stinger. There is a higher difficulty in the options menu, though, which I should give a try someday.
Anyway, I'm been very busy the last couple weeks with finals and such, so I haven't done much gaming. I did play through TwinBee Yahho, though, and I worked on Goemon in the Konami Collection some more. I'm on the second to last stage, but I'm kind of stuck. I have to do this really long jumping sequence over water as well as find 4 hidden pearls (they just appear if you happen to jump near where they are, so that means I have to search every damn platform). Problem is, the jumping controls aren't exactly as tight as they could be, and touching water is instant death. You only get three lives, no way to earn more, and then you gotta start the stage all over. :/ It's kind of interesting, though; I'm not playing as Goemon. He ate a dumpling some strange old woman offered him, and it poisoned him. His body is numb, so this girl named Miko has to get the pearls in order to get medicine. She plays virtually identical to Goemon, but it's funny to be playing a Goemon game and play as someone besides the usual Goemon, Ebisumaru, Sasuke, or Yae.
I finished maxing out everything in Legend of the River King (999 HP, 9999 Gold, 9999 EXP), so I was toying around with the Raise mode. I honestly don't get it. It seems thoroughly pointless to me. Maybe it's just because I've never played with a Tamagotchi or anything like that, but I'll feed the fish, clean its tank, and decorate it, and then... what do I do? The time lapse thing never seems to go up, the fish never seems to get hungry, and the tank doesn't seem to get dirty unless I feed the fish. I can keep feeding the fish repeatedly and eventually it'll grow another centimeter (although I'm not sure if this is because of the food or just happens over time), but I got it to grow from 2 to 11 cm and it still hasn't evolved. Like I said, I just don't understand. o_O It seems like absolutely nothing happens with this. It's a shame my manual for this game is back at my mom's house.
Other than that stuff, I played a couple levels in New Super Mario Bros. on my brother-in-law's DS and it's surprisingly fun. I'd like to have a DS and this game someday, but probably won't any time soon. I also played a few minutes of Wonder Project J2 in order to answer a question about my FAQ on the game, but now I'm tempted to play through the entire game again. :P It's just such a genuinely sweet and touching game that I can't resist how adorable Josette is.

Yes, emulation through the GBA slot, i have this device which reads compact flash memory cards which i mostly use as an mp3 player but came with a NES emulator pre-installed. I stuck a load of roms on there at one point which i never really try - well, i used to play Game Boy Tetris on there until Tetris DS came out. I was playing some more of this today and i think its just that I would rather play NES-era graphics on a small screen than on a big one. However, just downloaded a NES emulator to test this out and well, yeah, actually, full-screen on my monitor does seem very nice actually. My Dreamcast shooters have really spoiled me graphics-wise though. I turn my monitor on its side to play the vertical shooters in tate mode and like to turn my monitor off for 10/15mins to cool down and sometimes think a quick burst on the DS would be good which occasionally leads me to a shooter, think i should really give it more of a go though. I tend to pick up too many blue bells as the initial speed is far far too slow and then end up zipping about at some ridiculous speed and have no control for aiming really. Anyway, back to what i played yesterday:
Psyvariar 2
Hours and hours off this in the middle of the night because exams have mucked up my sleeping pattern completely. I finally made it through to stage 5, the 4th level boss and the 5th level were so impressive, absolute bullet hell. After that I decided to learn the first couple of bosses instead of just killing them quickly and that took me a long time.

I'm currently switching on and off between new Super Mario Bros. and Lost Magic on my DS (both are fantastic games).
For the PS2 import scene, I'm spending about an hour a day on Ibara. Still sucking, but I've got the chaining system down real well (can get 10,000 value medals by the time I reach the 2nd large builidng on stage 1). My problem currently is I'm still not consistent enough, plus I'm bad at judging when I should suicide. Oh, and Stage 2's boss still slaughters me :( (I'm playing 1CC style, no continuing).
The NES is getting a work out from recent aquisitions. The only game I'm really playing on it is Kid Icarus, but the other games I aquired that I'm playing for enjoyment tests are Gremlins 2 (man, Sunsoft kicks ass!), Shatterhand (ditto for Natsume), Abadox (this Natsume title is so-so, still prefer Life Force), Conquest of the Crystal Palace (Quest, the Ogre Battle peoples first video game? The character designs even look Orge Battleish), and Batman Returns.
And last but not least, on the Genesis front, I'm playing a game I just picked up, that was a childhood favorite of mine, Captain America & the Avengers on my new Genesis 3. Not the best beat em up, but still quite fun.

So after getting my Genesis stick last night I went ahead and played some more from the system last night. I was up til around 5am playing Phantasy Star II and mainly battling to level up and afford the highest available weapons and armor for the beginning. I went around to the top right and into the monster infested robotic looking underground city that teleports you around inside and went to every which corner I could and found a bunch of battles and some box of 40 Meseta, but didn't have a key to open some other locked chest. I guess I need to find that key and screw around in there more which isn't difficult since I'm level 8 and Nei is lvl 17 or so.
Also testing out the arcade stick I popped in some Steel Empire and it seemed to be a bit easier than with the standard controller which is a really great plus to keeping it. There were fluid movements and more control on the direction making it more enjoyable too. But when I played some Shinobi 3 from 5:10am-5:45am it was easy up til the point where you have to jump between falling rocks (stage 8?) and the double jump spin wasn't working out too well. So I lost a ton of lives and decided to give up and just stick to using a regular controller on it.
That's about it. I'm amazed I ended up spending between midnight and almost 6am playing just those 3 games because usually that late at night I crash and must turn them off.

Well, my copy of Yu Suzuki's Game Works Vol.1 arrived today. Huge hardback book and a Dreamcast disc with 5 classic arcade ports, I played a quick game of each and then quite a bit of Power Drift, thats because the 4 other ports are also in Shenmue/Shenmue2 on Dreamcast and Power Drift is the only one missing, its also one hell of a ride - crazy game.
Psyvariar 2
A hell of a lot more of this. Decided to practice area 3 and wow, is that boss easy to milk for thousands of buzz, great fun. Started practicing area 4 also and that boss still kills me, on my actual playthroughs I've only got past him once and that was using 3 bombs. I only managed once properly on my practises. I think timing of the level up technique is needed. I still plan to hopefully one day 1cc this game (and Ikaruga)

Psyvariar 2:
Just COMPLETED it! Woo, my first shmup 1cc! Didn't expect that. Previously had made it through to Area 5 once, at around 12million points. Today I made it there at 14million points, with my stage3 boss getting me an extra 2mill easy. I had been playing quite a few more goes after this, trying some with the other ship type also and then was like, one final go and then I'll turn the Dreamcast off. Managed to make it to Area 5, the area4 boss was done pretty easily, one bomb in there just in case i couldn't survive, the end part not as bullet hell-y as i remember from my first go. Area 5 I just killed everything straight away, as I had no lives left, instead of even trying to get any buzz. There are a couple of mini-bosses here who could be worth going for though. Then i was surprised when the final boss appeared. It was my first go at him and I killed him. This hasn't happened for any of the other bosses in the game. Was fairly easy, i don't think i even used a bomb. Lots and lots of bullets but clear and easy patterns to weave through. Nice work, i was like, is that it? Now to go and get my buzz going so i can level up some more and thus unlock Area 6.
Shanghai DS
Played some of this as well, in the morning and last night when i couldn't sleep. The tiles are very small but they've kind of skewed some of the writing so you can easily differentiate the different tiles. Loads and loads of different play modes. Don't know how much i'll play this or if it was worth the money though. The touchscreen is the perfect interface for this game

Managed to reach the hard levels now. It was my area 0 which was suffering, stupidly i was leaving out the biggest possible place to get buzz, my buzz has now doubled there now. Almost reached the magic 1000 buzz for both areas 0 and 1 now. Once thats happened I'll work on reaching it for area 2. Area 3 i already get ~2500 easily, can pump it up to over 3000 i reckon, and area 4 i've got over 1000 before, which is pumpable, especially on the boss. Hopefully I'll unlock Area 6 soon enough, just need to get those high buzz scores i reckon.

I did end up playing through Wonder Project J2, and I finished it last night. It's such a heartwarming, touching game that I'm sad that it's over once again. It's just class all the way. Sure, it would probably be better off without the obligatory 3D mini-games, but regardless, it's such an amazing work of art.
Other than that, I tried a few games I got in a trade: Wetrix on N64, RC Pro-AM and Metal Gear on NES, and Aladdin on Genesis. I've beaten the Game Boy Aladdin before, and I was surprise that it's actually almost identical to the Genesis version in gameplay, controls, and level design. I figured the Game Boy version would've been just a half-assed version of it, so the similarity doesn't really reflect on the Genesis game well considering I think the Game Boy version is pretty poor. It's surprising because I've heard so much praise for the Genesis Aladdin in the past, but maybe that's more a matter of the music from the movie and the boatload of animation. Too bad the gameplay is rather sloppy jalopy.

Finished Toejam and Earl III last night, becomes a bit of a grind in the last couple of levels, but the ending is pretty funny.
Tonight I finished Battletoads, and the moment it happened my brain released millions of endorphins and I am extremly happy. Beating that game is like taking 73 ecstacies.

Kingdom Hearts (PS2) and Tetris (GB). Finally bought Tetris for my Game Boy so I'm enjoying it quite thoroughly. And I never did get through KH, so I'm playing it through before I even think about buying the sequel (though I'll probably buy the sequel sometime soon anyway...).

Lagoon - SNES... such a freaking pain in the ass later on with all the slowdown.. but for some reason I still like this game. LOL
The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? - Saturn (JPN). I hadn't sat down and played through it in quite awhile and I a good time giving it another runthrough. I'm thinking of pulling it from my Buying & Selling thread now.

Gunstar Heroes
Race Drivin!..
My Son has never played this game before,I gave him the controller set-up on the original Hard Drivin track and he flew through it without crashing..Watching him clear the bridge jump and loop cleanly blew my mind..(he's 5)
Watching him do that makes me want to keep buying more and more old game titles.

I played some more Goemon on the Konami GB Collection Vol. 3, but I didn't really make any more progress. I'm stick stuck on the stupid jumping part with Miko. I did, however, finally manage to find all 4 pearls, so now it's just a matter of gathering them all, reaching the end of that area, and then making it all the way back to the town. Easier said than done with just 3 lives. :/ What's frustrating is that it's so time consuming started the stage from scratch every time and having to sit through the dialogue, traverse the whole town, stock up on money and buy equipment, only to make a couple dumb mistakes and get a game over lightning fast. I just turn off the SP when I lose; I don't have the patience to immediately do that all over again.
