I picked up some Genesis games in a trade with a member on here a little while ago and just got around to checking them out today.
GEN
Aladin
Spiderman/X-Men
Kid Chameleon
Since I pulled the Genesis out of the closet for the first time in awhile I had to pop in Sonic 2 and Thunderforce 3. I think this time the Genny is staying out as I'm starting to actualy pick up some games for it.

I'm up to Chapter 3 in Arcana on SNES, and this game is really surprising me. I thought it might be kind of tedious, but it actually moves at a good clip and is more addictive than I had imagined. For a company known for Lolo and Kirby, they did a fine job making an RPG. The music is really catchy too. It's done by the same guys that did Kirby games, and I can hear the similarities despite that it's a much different kind of atmosphere to the game. It's also fun playing a game that is almost entirely in first-person. I've played some games here and there that had some minor first-person parts, but I generally avoid games that use it all throughout because it makes me feel sick. But since this is old school and grid-based, I haven't had any problems. Seems like it won't be a huge commitment either, since if Nintendo Power is any indication, the game only has five chapters.
I'm actually on the fence whether or not I should get that game. It was made my HAL Labs and from what I've heard, it has some incredible music, my favorite track being the boss battle theme. I'm not big on card RPGs, though and when you lose a character, they are gone for good. Still, I don't mind playing games that are different so I may give it a shot.

Yesterday I got MLB Power Pros 2008 but it may be awhile before I really get into it since I'm still into a season of the previous game. Today I just played the All-Star game which the National League won 12-6. The game's MVP was 2B Freddy Sanchez of the Pirates. Yeah, I know, this game is nothing like real life... :)

So I finally got around to buying the anthology. The booklet was a nice surprise and I get to play the games with my lovely NeoGeo Pad2. I am not sure what to do with continues, I've set it to 5 (the lowest setting) but don't see myself finishing the game on that number, however, don't want to simply credit feed my way through. I prefer games where when you continue, it takes you back to the beginning of the level (or a checkpoint or something) not carry straight on. I want to learn and have a challenge but also progress. Anyway, I get up to the level 3 mini-boss and he takes me down. The game is amazing and all the little touches are what makes it extra special.

I purchased Loco Roco (PSP) on clearance late last year for my girlfriend, but I never got around to playing it. Well, my girlfriend's nephews were playing the game last week when I brought it over there and I was immediately entranced by all of it. Since then, I've been playing it nonstop! I can't believe that I've been ignoring such an awesome game for the past year!:monkey:
I was also playing Patapon (PSP) quite a bit, but I'm stuck on the level where you have to do the rain dance to cross the desert. After the rain runs out, I can't seem to get the stupid dance to work again, even in 'Fever Mode'.... and then my little Patapons just burn up like paper :(

Spend all of my commute home trying again and again on that final boss. The best I got was getting him down to 3 hits left a few times. I don't think I'm ever going to finish him off.
Metal Slug - PS2
Didn't do too great and kept increasing the credits. On 20 (the highest amount before free play) I got to the final boss. The levels seem to get too packed on the last few levels, which I don't like as much as the first few.
GTA 4 - Xbox360
Did the 3 Algonquin races for Brucie and then tried to reward him by taking him out on a helicoptor trip, but my game kindof crashed. Oh well. Was also dissapointed to find out that you need to complete 20 street races to get an achievement, even though there are only 9 different courses in the game. Thats beating each one twice and a couple of them three times. No good.

Since I'm broke and since I'm not willing to prostitute myself for a copy of Soul Calibur IV which is the only game I want that I don't have at this point, I decided to play some of the 360 games I had either never opened or hadn't spent much tiime with over the weekend:
Naruto: Rise of a Ninja - This game is probably the best Naruto game I've played so far, and I've never even seen the cartoon. The combat is a little boring, but it's a kid's game so what are you going to do?
Tomb Raider: Legend - I hate puzzles in adventure games so I stopped when I couldn't figure out how to get up the waterfall section at the beginning.
Saint's Row - This is the one I've spent the most time with over the past few days. The missions are better than GTA: San Andreas IMO, and there's so much to do that I don't even need to buy GTA IV or the upcoming Saint's Row 2.
Sonic the Hedgehog - I couldn't get past the overworld map bit with the shop, so I just quit. I only paid $5 for this game at a thrift a few months ago, but I'm starting to wonder if I overpaid.
Blue Dragon - I've had this one sealed for over eight months, but I just got around it. It seems like a really good RPG and I understand now why other companies are moving their RPGs to the 360 because the graphics are great!

Heh, I'd suggest stopping before you torture yourself any further. Sonic 360 is easily one of the worst games I've ever played. It's a buggy, poorly designed mess. However, Blue Dragon is incredible.

I've been running the FPS rage lately.
PC:
FarCry - Crazy. That's all I can think when I climb a ladder and a guy is waiting with a mini-gun ready to hose you down. Then there's the whole sneaky aspect when I just want to blow a base up. In a second or two your dead and they're locked onto you. Great game and nice graphics and details, just some parts of the game are rough.
Prey - Slowly creeping through the game. For some reason I just get bored about every 45 minutes and walk away for another week. Also the hard, badass attitude they attempt to give your character is really lame. Game engine graphics and physics make the gameplay enjoyable, just need a better dialog and story.
Unreal Tournament III - Campaign sucks but is entertaining. It's more of a "how to play" with the various game rules. Pretty much sets you up for the chaos that's with online game play.
Battlefield 1942 - Still lots of users out there still and fun as hell. There are so many bugs/glitches in this title and it's aged horribly, but somehow it's still interesting to log on Saturday or Sunday afternoons.
Saturn:
Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean - Well, not yet. I have it setup so I can begin playing it. It's been awhile since I really spent time on an RPG and a few months since I turned my Saturn on. Been itching to jump into this game and maybe it's about time.
PS2:
Katamari Damacy - Started playing the other week and it's some good times. It feels like a "play a round and walk away for a few days" kinda title. I can see now what the rage was all about on it too.
Shadow of the Colossus - Like Katamari Domacy in play time: take down a colossus and walk away for awhile. Another great game just haven't had much time to really plow through several rounds or just beat it in one or two gaming marathons.
5200:
Super Breakout - For some reason it's the only Atari game I've felt like playing lately. I'll spend about 30 minutes playing before sleeping, but yet I'm not getting that much better. Maybe it's the controller I'm using and method I play. I took apart an official 5200 controller that had bad contacts a few days ago and plan to build an arcade panel for the system. I'll have one knob each for the X and Y axis spaced accordenly and plan to get a dialer from an old phone at a thrift store to replace that part. Then use some low profile arcade buttons for the rest. Should be interesting to see how it works on other games besides Super Breakout.

The whole card theme in Arcana is purely for aesthetics. It doesn't really play like a card RPG at all. If you removed the boxes bordering all the characters and enemies it would essentially be the same as any other first-person Japanese dungeon crawler RPG, like Shining in the Darkness and such. The only time that cards come into play is that you can purchase cards that can cast spells, which vary in strength depending on how many you use at a time, and there are cards that can help you escape from battle or instantly kill the enemies if they successfully work. Personally, I almost entirely ignored the cards. I used normal attacks and magic usually.
I'm not sure what you mean by characters being gone for good. It's not a Fire Emblem kind of deal if that's what you mean. Since every character in the game is crucial to the plot throughout, it's an instant Game Over if any human character in your party dies. You also get elemental spirits, though, and if they're defeated, you just gotta go back to town to revive them.
If you mean plot-wise, yeah, character do come and go of their own accord, as dictated by the story, not unlike Final Fantasy IV and Mystic Quest. I can understand if some people dislike that, but it didn't really bother me any (except in parts when I only had Rooks, which makes battles pretty tough). Another thing that may bother some people is how linear the game is. You never get the opportunity to return to old dungeons and towns, but there's never really a need for that either.
Anyway, as for my playing, I just beat Arcana on my Super Nintendo tonight. It took a slight bit longer than expected since the dungeons in Chapters 3 and 4 were pretty huge and difficult. Chapter 5 didn't take too long, though. The game wasn't too bad at all; I'm glad I finally seriously sat down with it.
Since I spent half of the weekend at a friend's house, I brought my Game Boy Advance SP along to occupy myself during any times in which I was waiting around, so I finally started up a game in Mega Man Xtreme. I've had this one lined up as my next Game Boy game for a long time. The previous owner apparently unlocked all the modes, but I started on the normal mode anyway. I beat all four of the Mavericks in this mode, and now I'm up to the second part of the final sections. The game is pretty amazing for being a hodge-podge of two SNES games on hardware that was better suited for NES ports. While it pales in comparison to its source material, it's still pretty fun. I'm surprised at how tough it is too. The stages aren't too bad, but the bosses have definitely been beefed up. I normally take on Chill Penguin first with the standard shot, and I could beat him with ease in Mega Man X but I was getting my butt totally kicked here. I guess it's partially that the controls aren't as good, but he's definitely stronger too. It took a LONG time to whittle that life bar down.

Sega Arcade Gallery - GBA
This includes 4 Yu Suzuki classics all squeezed onto a GBA. The graphics suffer a lot for it and the music is in some strange format which isn't as nice as it could have been. In order from bad to worst: Afterburner - hard to aim, progress seems random, poor game. Space Harrier - hard to see things, progressed a lot easier than on other ports. OutRun - not a bad version actually. Super Hang-On - this one was really fun, really easy to get in to and with 4 sets of levels (containing 6-18 levels each) there is a lot in it. Will be coming back to Super Hang-On and OutRun but not the other two.
Geometry Wars Waves - Xbox 360
Yeah, i know, i should get the new version from live arcade but I don't have the internet at home :(
Project Gotham Racing 4 - Xbox 360
A really successful day on PGR4. The first championship I did brought me up in rank to the top rank (master?) you can get and also netted me the national champion achievement. Now just need to get from rank 20 to rank 1. Then I did the old formula-one car in the snow around the nurburgring (whilst listening to Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries) and completed that. Then completed my first Major Championship (out of three). After all that played a couple of tight races around the nurburgring with my flatmate.

On my way home yesterday was 2 seconds away from getting onto the final stage. It takes about 10minutes to do that expert course and its basically a stamina test as holding down A and the R shoulder button on a GB Micro is really painful for that long. I tried again this morning on my way in and I sucked.
Project Gotham Racing 4 - Xbox 360
Did a 6-course master championship to get me up from 20 to 18 on the rankings and then did a few arcade challenges, getting a couple of golds. However, couldn't do it with bikes on that chapter. Then did a load of 2-player races with my flatmate, trying out different cars, most of which I struggled with.
GTA 4 - Xbox 360
Mostly messed about, tried and failed for ages on one stunt jump but completed another accidentely. Dated a new character and tried to do a couple of random encounters. The one for Ilyena Faustin was odd - the chase (on foot) seemed never to end and eventually I accidently killed the guy. Oh well, I wonder if i get a chance to do it again.

So I did up to the end of mission 3 and then paused the game to watch a tv show. An hour later I switched it back over to the PS2 and the screen was blank. Got up to the point where you have to choose who to kill for the first time. I killed who I wanted which I think gives you less in-game benefits but I didn't like that character. I also did various other things, unlocked Kiki's ability, did a street race (and my save seems to have lost the fact I did 3 street races the other day), got the achievement for getting the high score on QUB3D (which I dislike but got easily compared to before, must be my columns playing helping), some things for Brucie and Jacob. There's so much to do in this game, i'm on 35 hours played and 37% complete. Wow.

I beat HL1 on the medium difficulty a little while ago. That was considerably harder.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion-Damn, i got myself into this game and cant stop playing. Fighter's Guild anybody???
Oblivion is addictive. I put 100+ hours into that game and it felt like about 10. BTW - All the guilds are fun, but the assassin guild is the best. Have fun.
Back on topic. Currently playing Metal Wolf Chaos for the Xbox. Only completed the first mission so far, but its pretty fun.

Well, it's only been a few days since my last post, but I'm already all done with Mega Man Xtreme on my Game Boy Advance SP. And I don't mean with the Normal mode I last wrote about; I've beaten all three modes: Normal, Hard, and Extreme. The timing of everything worked out perfectly too because we had a couple hot days in which I didn't feel like doing anything but sitting around playing Game Boy, but now it's cooling off and I want to get to other stuff. Even though I got through it in less than a week, it wasn't too bad for a Mega Man game in terms of length. I have about 8 hours racked up between all three modes. Now I've beaten 5 Mega Man games, when just a few years ago I hadn't ever played any. I've mostly gone with the odd stuff, though. I've beaten Mega Man X, Mega Man Legends, Mega Man 1 & 2 for Game Boy, and now Mega Man Xtreme. I've yet to barely touch any of the NES games, but I also don't own any of them so that half explains that.

Finished Mario vs. the Koopas this afternoon. Short but sweet game. Still hooked on the Super Mario War 1.8 beta.

Metal Slug - PS2
Argh! So my game keeps freezing at one point in level one. I don't know why. The disk isn't scratched, it isn't a dodgy save file. You get to this one point and the PS2 freezes but this 5-seconds of music keeps looping.
Super Hang-On - GBA
Got to the final stage, number 18 and didn't make it. So annoying.

Still playing Etrian Odyssey 2 and Picross, both for the DS. EO2 is really freaking awesome (good old school grind it out RPG).

My Wii remote went out earlier this week, so no Wii games. I would be playing FIFA 08 if it was still working. I called Nintendo and the warranty expired so I just have to buy a new one, probably tomorrow. Ugh, what a horrible feeling :-(
Just imagine if your system was dead and not under warranty. I know THAT feeling.
Anyway, I've been trying out a couple of different games lately.
SNK Classics Vol. 1 (PSP) - I played Fatal Fury, Last Resort, Neo Turf Masters, Shock Troopers and The King of Fighters 94.
The Club (360) - It's a fun game even though I can't aim for headshots to save my life. It reminds me a lot of Outtrigger (DC), although not as fast and with better aiming.
