I haven't posted my gaming in over a week, but I'm still playing Final Fantasy III on DS like crazy. It's lasted through my long flight and then some. Surprisingly, I have nearly 40 hours racked up, when I was expecting it to be more around a 20-25 hour game. Honestly, it probably should have been since it has gotten a little less fun and grew tedious at a few parts, but not nearly as bad as in other Final Fantasy games. The problem is that it has that typical Final Fantasy vehicle syndrome in that it throws way more different types of vehicles at you than is really justified and usually all but the last "super" vehicle sucks, being just as slow and annoying at it would be to walk. And that's exacerbated by all the limitations of where they can go and land, forcing you to walk great distances anyway. Even the "ultimate" vehicle in this game blows, since it's even slower than the previous ship, can't dive underwater, and it can only "hop" small, single mountains. The brisk pace at the beginning of the game died down some when I ended up on an even larger overworld map and spent loads of time slowly trudging around it to make sure I don't miss any secrets hidden in forests and what have you. The difficulty also died down as well. I haven't made any efforts to "grind", but since I almost never run from a battle, I guess all that exploring resulted in my levels getting beefed up. Honestly, I could've done without the whole second world map. I guess most players like being surprised by discovering the world is much larger than it appeared, but I find it kind of a buzz kill to feel like you've "conquered" the world by getting closer and closer to have every inch explored only to find out you basically have to start from scratch all over again. Of course, most RPG fans also want their games to be as long as possible, but I go against that idea in favor of a game knowing its limits of how much play time the system can support without making the game feel tiresome and grow bloated. Oh well, I'm near the end now, and, all in all, I'm still having a good time and would rank it above all the other Final Fantasy games I've completed, but I don't think I'll remember it as a particularly notable or exceptional RPG. Now I'm just trying to figure out this Mognet stuff to get all the secret things, which is a pretty annoying gimmick. I'm such a retro gamer that I don't really know squat about doing online stuff with video game systems; just getting my Wii linked up with some friends for the Mii parade was an ordeal. Oh well, this is worth learning for DS games that use it in less stupid ways. :P
While my gaming is dominated by Final Fantasy III, I did start up a file in Lagoon on Super Nintendo, and now that I have a working battery in it, I plan to play it for real. I completed the Gold Cave and rescued Giles, drawing a map as I made my way through it. While it would be annoying trying to play it like a modern game, running through the dungeons fast and relying on memorization, I'm having a good time so far taking it slow and using a methodological approach. I also played a tiny bit of NES when a friend came over. I got my ass handed to me in Jeopardy Jr. Edition (sad, I know), but I did well playing good ol' Super Mario Bros.

I've finally gotten back to the GameCube after not playing it for oh so long.
A few nights ago, I started back on Namco Museum, posted new high scores on Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Pac-Man Arrangement and Galaga Arrangement.
The same night, I played through the first world on Ty the Tasmanian Tiger. Not a dull platformer, but there is way too much collecting. It amazes me that the developer, Krome, who is also developing the Hellboy 360 game, was able to squeeze such a large stage out of a last-gen game.
The next night, I started XIII for the first time on the GameCube and beat the first stage but after getting through the first chapter of the second stage and getting killed, the game wouldn't save so I just stopped.
For the last two nights, I've been playing Evolution Worlds. I beat Victor in the mech suit and now I'm starting the part where they have just gotten off the train. This game was rated severly low only because it was a straight port from the Dreamcast but I would still say this game is better than the Baten Kaitos and Lost Kingdoms series and slightly worse than Skies of Arcadia.
Then, I found my Freeloader and I tried out the Japanese games Mr. Driller: Driller Land, Kuru-Kururin and Konjiki no Gashbell: Go! Go! Mamono Fight!! after about a year of owning them.
I plan to try Family Stadium 2003 and get back to Evolution Worlds and Dragon Drive at some point today...

I played a little more Final Fantasy III on DS, but I use the word "played" loosely. Mostly I've just been turning it on every hour or so to send mail to some people I traded friend codes with on GameFAQs. Just this morning I finally finished sending my 7th piece of mail, which unlocked the Onion Knight side-quest. I quickly banged that out, and now I'm working on getting Sara's Pendant repaired. I should be done in terms of sending mail to real people, but now I'm back to the waiting game to send mail to the NPCs.
In the meantime, I played some more Lagoon on Super Nintendo. I beat Samson and reached the Elf Field, and then I explored the town of Voloh. I got some guy following me around now, and I'm looking for the three tablets to enter the next dungeon. I hope the dungeon has tight corridors like the previous one because exploring wide open spaces like in towns and Elf Field is pretty annoying with the horrible scrolling. I don't know why they didn't just make it so Nasir is always in the center of the screen.

That's quite a nasty cough. ;) MGS 4 will never be ported to the 360, though. There are so many PS3 references scattered throughout the game, plus the fact that it fills a dual-layer Blu-ray disc. Sony also helped pay for some of its development, so there's no way they're going to let it happen.

I decided to pull out and play a couple PS1 baseball titles so I played one game each of MLB Pennant Race and 3D Baseball. I think both must've come out the same year (or at least within a year or so of each other) as both had pretty much the same rosters for my Pittsburgh team (the team I always play) and even featured the same starting pitcher for the exhibition game I played in each, Paul Wagner. I won big in the first game, scoring 12 runs, but lost 4-2 in my game of 3D Baseball.

I'm just about done with all the side stuff in Final Fantasy III on DS now. I repaired and returned Sara's Pendant, got the Ultima Weapon, got items and stamps for mastering the White Mage and Red Mage jobs, and I got just about all the letters to open up the bonus dungeon. I also entered the Crystal Tower and used the two keys I got from Doga and Unei. Sounds like the bonus dungeon is harder than the final dungeon, so I might beat the game first before I tackle it.
In Lagoon, I found the last tablet with Thor, saved the elves held prisoner in Philips Castle, and then beat the second boss Natella. I actually found that battle easier than the one with Samson. Then I got to the Dwarf Desert, which was a huge pain to explore with the wide open spaces and awkward mountain shapes that all look the same after awhile. I spent a long time mapping it out, and I even got on GameFAQs to confirm that I had gotten everything on my map. The proportions are surely off a bit, but it gets the job done.
Metal Gear Solid 4, I did have my doubts about the game, but man I haven't been able to put the damn thing down since I got it.

Solstice (famicom)
Final Fantasy (famicom)
It's fun challenging myself to beat FF again in a language I'm not fluent in (it took me 5 tries to realize that "Ka-i-u-ru" meant "cure" - and I took 4 years of the language :( ). Solstice doesn't need language comprehension to play which is good - because it's frustrating as hell!

No announcer, no actual sports clips, just multiple-choice questions.
