As predicted, I'm still playing a bit of Star Ocean 1: First Departure on PSP, even though there's not really anything to do. :P I maxed out a couple of moves, got my characters up to about level 140, and I beat the final boss again just to see if any of my endings would change. Right now I'm playing the game to relax a little between studying for finals, so once my summer vacation officially begins, I'll probably retire the game and crack into something new.

We went to Fuddruckers and ChuckE Cheese Yesterday for my Sons Birthday.
Both places were dead..
At Fuddruckers I played Air Hockey Against My Brother In Law(switching between two tables)
I am not very good at this game and he is..But I beat him and giving him a challenge on it like he hasn't had before....We were going at it,over and over, having a blast.....I was hitting the puck so hard that it was flying off the table and going across the room..It almost hit one of the workers there lol
My Son.sis in law and nephew came over to watch us and were standing just a bit too close to get nailed by the buck so I slowed down a bit and lost the last game.
We wound up Tie..
Chucke Cheese was so dead that I was able to play AFTER BURNER CLIMAX to the end...

Well, I'm done with school now, but I still haven't seriously gotten into anything new. Instead, I've been spending a few days cleaning up my whole room, organizing and dusting a lot of my game stuff. I did play a little Super Smash Bros. Brawl on Wii with friends, though, and I played a tiny bit more Star Ocean 1: First Departure on PSP. My characters are up to level 160 now. I also popped in my Gradius Collection since I've been reading the Gradius article on Hardcore Gaming 101 and it got me interested in giving it another try. Last time I played it I had a whole pile of PSP games to get through, so I didn't put much time into any of the games. Plus I stink at the series, so I got creamed pretty bad. This time I was a little more patient with it. I mostly played Gradius Gaiden, and I'm quite impressed. There were a lot of periods in which Konami was really at the top of their game, but those early PlayStation years when they were still sticking with 2D were great. Gradius IV, in comparison, is quite lame, despite that it came later.
I forgot to mention in my last post that I had finally tried out Persona 3: FES on PlayStation 2. Seems pretty interesting, but I still need to play Persona 1 and 2 and every other game related to Megami Tensei. :P Definitely a bizarre soundtrack, but it works well with the goofy dating sim vibe it gives off.

Highlights from today's docket:
Micro Machines V4 (PS2) - It's probably a decent multiplayer game, but it's a terrible single-player game with cheating A.I. on normal mode. Codemasters, how could you?
Simpsons: Hit & Run (PS2) - I started this game on GameCube years ago, but the controls are much better on PS2. I got further in one day than I did in several months on the GC version.
Sonic Gems - Sonic CD (GC) - I tried to get through the second world, but I got killed by Dr. Robotnik.

I did a little bit more leveling up in Star Ocean 1: First Departure on PSP, and I got my characters up to just shy of 175. More importantly, though, I finally cracked into TwinBee Portable. I played all of the games on it, but I was most excited to play the original TwinBee and the remake of TwinBee Da! I already have two versions of Detana! TwinBee before this one, and I prefer the PC Engine rendition anyway. I also already have TwinBee Yahho!! on PlayStation, and I'd rather play Pop'n TwinBee on Super Famicom. But, anyway, the original was the one game missing in my collection, so it nice to finally have it. It's definitely brutal and pretty archaic, but it's still surprisingly fun. The TwinBee Da! remake, however, is plain awesome. It's very cool how they actually made something new for this collection, rather than rely completely on emulation. I've already killed the original Game Boy version of TwinBee Da!, and this one is very faithful so I managed to beat it on just my second attempt. It does seem a little more chaotic, though, with a slightly faster pace and more stuff flooding the screen, which can probably be attributed to it no longer being limited by the Game Boy hardware. The best thing is having a sort-of-kind-of new TwinBee after all these years, though, and it's great seeing a TwinBee with vivid, high-res 2D graphics. The graphics aren't especially detailed, but the game still definitely looks nice. All in all, I'm very pleased with the compilation.
And finally, the most exciting thing is that I beat another stage in Boxxle on my Game Boy Advance SP. :) Only two more stages before I finally have this monkey off my back. :P I'm beating this game over the next week, no ifs, ands, or buts. I'm willing to cheat a tiny bit if it comes down to that, but the more I can do entirely on my own the better.

Gosh my neck is so stiff-- just played upwards of 6 hours of Pokemon Pearl.. hadn't played a Pokemon game since Yellow, but I picked up Pearl today upon learning that Darkrai is being released in a download event this Sat and Sun, May 31 and June 1, at Toys R Us stores from 12 - 4 pm. Yeah.. I know I could use Action Replay to get it whenever, but I don't cheat in RPG's and like the idea of attending an event of any kind and having a story of how the character was obtained. Makes it special.

Been playing Sniper Elite for the XBOX quite a bit since I got it a week or two ago. It's a pretty good game... but frustrating sometimes. It alternates between extremely slow pacing and run and gun style game play. Sometimes I wish it was a little slower paced. Oh well. Then there was brief stints of Missile Command in between which I am horrible at, for sure. My current high score is only 17000 something.

Well, just as I had planned and promised, I have achieved a goal that's been YEARS in the making. I've beaten Boxxle. :) Of all the gaming accomplishments in my life, I think this is the most significant, as anyone who has been reading this topic for awhile would know that I've been working on this a LONG time. I think I've struggled with this game more than even the toughest of action games I've played. While the first few puzzles aren't too bad, the game quickly becomes HARD and progresses to absolutely batshit INSANE. Just getting through one stage is cause for jubilation, and I'd frequently spend over an hour, in not multiple hours, on a single stage, failing over and over. It was a completely mentally draining experience, and I'm so proud of myself for sticking with it to the end. I'll admit that for the last two stages I had left, I was so eager to finish off the game that I used a tiny bit of outside help. For the larger of the two, the guide was so confusing to follow that I basically ended up figuring it out on my own anyway. For the very last stage, I got the first few moves and figured the rest out myself. While that lessens my pride a little bit than had I done them completely on my own, I feel better when I consider that the game has 108 puzzles, and I only got a very minor amount of help on 4 stages total. Also, while the game does have some semblance of getting progressively harder, it still varies a lot. I beat some stages within the last 20 or so far more easily than stages around the 50th. I definitely wouldn't say those last two I had were the hardest, I was just getting impatient. :P Anyway, I also beat the hidden stage in the game, but I cheated a lot on that one to get the strategy of how to go about completing it. Since it's basically just a test stage the developers put in for the Create mode, I didn't care to put in any real effort. So now, after all this time, I can finally retire Boxxle.

I figured it was about time to start something new, so I got my summer gaming rolling with Final Fantasy III on DS, which is a continuation of my half-hearted attempt to play through the series in numerical order (I believe it was two summers ago when I played through Final Fantasy II via Final Fantasy Origins). Somehow I've already racked up over 8 hours in just a couple days, when I'd be lucky to get that many hours of gaming in a week, maybe two, the rest of the year. Gotta love having the time to have multiple sessions with a game in just one day. :) So far I'm enjoying it more than any other Final Fantasy I've beaten (VII, I on NES, and II on PlayStation). It seems to take the best elements from old and new in that it moves at a brisk pace, unlike the Famicom originals, yet it still puts up a nice, old-school challenge so it's not boring me like Final Fantasy usually does. I really like toying with the job system as well. I think this is the perfect time for me to play this game since I just came off of Star Ocean 1: First Departure on PSP in which I got a good fix of real-time battles. Now I'm ready for a nice simplistic, traditional turn-based system. Anyway, I just finished the Tower of Owen, and I'm looking forward to playing more. Hopefully that feeling will carry me through all the way until the end, without the game growing tedious.
